Part 4; Chapter 1 - Setting Out
=Sabre's POV=
It had been two weeks since Time Steve left.
Rainbow had just finished packing his stuff as he walked up to me with his bag. "Ready to go, bud?" I asked, patting him with my elbow. Rainbow smiled and nodded. "Of course! I'm ready to find that flower forest to build our new town in." He stated happily.
He grabbed onto my elbow as we made our way outside, Shark harvesting some wood from the emptied out house into his inventory. Now, to people like Shark, Nathan, and Moose, and even me, despite me being a Steve in my past life, each had a special, twenty seven extra slots in our inventories, where we could store items that we would either not want to carry or would be too tiring to lug around all the time, yet always be in their neat, tidy little spots.
Now that I think about it, inventories are kinda like magic. I didn't know if Steves had them, so I'd probably have to ask later. Anything else we couldn't fit in our inventories, such as small, lightweight items, we put in bags to carry. Such as the bread Moose was shoving into his bag right now.
"Alllllright everybody!" Galaxy Steve called, standing at the front of the group with Shark. "Is everyone ready to go? Shark and I decided to heaaaad, drumroll please-" Galaxy then proceeded to turn to a wood block that hadn't been picked up yet, slapping it repeatedly as Moose followed suit by patting Nathan's backpack. "That-a-way!" Galaxy turned and pointed off northeast, Moose and Nathan cheering enthusiastically.
I sighed. Would I really have to deal with this for the next who knows how long? The answer is probably yes. "Hey, uh, random question before we head out. I've been thinking about this for a while but now that we're leaving, I may as well bring it up." I chimed in.
"Yeah, shoot, Sabre." Shark urged. "Well, I've kinda been wondering, were the heck did you put my forearm?" I removed my elbow from Rainbow's hold and wiggled it around a bit, before returning it to my small friend who gave an annoyed huff.
Shark and Moose looked at each other, then at me, then at each other.. then at me... "What?" I asked, "Was it that weird of a question? You, Shark, literally live with Moose, you can handle weird stuff." I defended quickly.
"Hey!! ..Now while that is true, that's not it." Moose said. "Yeah.. uh- we were just gonna kinda burn it to get rid of it and let you put the ashes where you wanted, but.. it kinda just disappeared overnight." Shark added.
"Well that's not creepy at all." Rainbow said sarcastically. "Yep, not creepy at all. It actually disappeared? You're not pranking me, right? Like it couldn't have just grown two legs and walked away."
The group was silent. "Okay. Okay then, uh- I doubt Time or Elemental would have needed it, I don't think they would even want a limb." I started. "Well," Nathan piped up, "you guys said I was the last one to see it, right? Remember how the weird goopy black stuff on it was acting up?"
"You think the Shadows had something to do with it then?" I asked. My human friends shrugged, Rainbow and Galaxy just listening in.
"Well now I really want to get out of this place." Rainbow shuddered. We all nodded and agreed, most of us fidgeting a bit nervously. "Come on, guys. Let's go." Shark said. Galaxy happily turned and took the lead, Nathan and Moose following together as Rainbow and I took the rear.
The Savannah scenery began to change to a forest, then to a field. Rainbow took in a deep breath, smiling as we walked. "New starts, am I right?" I asked him, causing him to giggle. "Yeah, it's nice. Shame that it's near the old place, there's a beautiful flower field near it. I did get some flowers though, we can grow new onces for our town with bonemeal!"
Rainbow showed off his flowers to me as we walked. He really did get each kind, from sunflowers to blue orchids to spore blossoms.. how he even got those was a mystery to me as he pulled out an entire azalea bush with some moss and glowberries, happily talking about the plants. ..Ah. There must have been a lush cave nearby then.
I just listened to his "scientific" explanation on how the glowberries glowed, and how he uses what little he can muster from his powers to keep the plants healthy and blooming, despite being without proper flower pots for the past few days. Oh, and don't forget about the frogs he found. He wouldn't stop obsessing over them, and honestly, I could see why.
We crossed over the narrow part of a river, and into a tall birch forest. The feeling was almost ethereal as a slight breeze blew through the trees. I closed my eyes and trusted Rainbow to lead me, inhaling the scent of the fresh air and forest's atmosphere.
I opened my eyes when I felt Rainbow tug on my arm. "What's up, bud?" I asked, looking at him, before looking around in confusion. "Weren't we just in a birch forest?" Moose asked as Nathan touched the dark oak tree next to him.
"Yeah.." Shark answered, "we were.. But clearly aren't anymore." Rainbow suddenly gasped. "Wait! Wait a second!!" He exclaimed. He let go of my arm and ran forward and ahead of the group. "Rainbow-!" I called, running after him.
I followed him deeper into the forest, the large trees blocking out more and more light as the wood packed closer and closer together. I stumbled through some underbrush and onto a path, seeing Rainbow at the end of it.
"Rainbow, buddy, why'd you ru- woah." I looked from Rainbow to the ruined, grey and purple building in front of us. Shark was the first to catch up to us, then Galaxy, and finally Nathan and Moose.
"Wow, what is this place?" Shark asked. Rainbow smiled in response. "It's Professor Red's Lab!" He exclaimed.
