Part 3; Chapter 4 - Shadows on the Walls
(HAHA WOWEE ALMOST FORGOT TO UPDATE THIS TODAY BUT I REMEMBERED)
(TW: derealization)
"Oh, Sabre..."
"hmm..?"
"You're finally awake, how lovely.."
"Wh-who... Where..."
"shh.. That's not important."
"O-okay.."
"Just rest, alright..?"
"Mm-hm.."
"Sabre!? Sabre, wake up!!"
"Sabre, You're gonna be okay, buddy!"
"What happened to him!?"
"What's on his arm??"
"I just gave him some strength and regen!"
"Elan!!"
I gasped, taking a shaky breath. Their voices were so loud. "Q-quiet.." I muttered over the shouting. Multiple hands grabbed me as I tried to breathe, multiple arms trying to hug me, multiple voices talking over each other, rambling random gibberish. At least that's what it sounded like.
I slumped over into one person's hold, clinging onto their shirt. I didn't care who it was, this person felt safe and warm. I kept my eyes closed, as my bandana wasn't on, the person covering my ears for me.
I listened to their heartbeat, as one of my ears was pressed against their chest. Someone pulled a blanket over me and someone grabbed and squeezed my hand. I opened my eyes a bit, peeking through my hair at the now mostly empty room. I looked at Rainbow, who was holding my hand, and then at Galaxy, who had been hugging me.
I definitely felt safer.. Wait, I felt unsafe before? What even happened..? Where was I..? Where am I now..? Who was that weird voice...?
Whatever.. probably just my imagination..
"Did Time.. win..?" I got out as Rainbow helped me put my bandana back on. He shrugged. "It was more of a draw." "I like to draw!" Galaxy piped up. "Not the art kind of draw, you dummy!"
I laughed at the two Steves, sitting up on my own. I ignored the pain in my left arm as I rolled my shoulders. "So what happened? Like, while I was out." I casually asked.
Rainbow pushed me back down onto the bed. "Well, rest first, okay? You need sleep!" He said. "I don't need sleep, I need answers-" I retorted.
Galaxy pat my head as I huffed in annoyance. "Is Time okay, at least?" I wondered. "Yeah, He's fine." Rainbow answered. "Now sleep before I knock you out!"
"Geez, geez, fine, I'll try!" I complained. "Doesn't he have insoma?" Galaxy asked. "Not 'insoma', you dummy, insomnia!" Rainbow replied.
I sighed as the two took their arguing out into the hallway, closing the door so I could rest. I stared at the ceiling and folded my hands across my chest.
"Sabre."
I bolted upright, looking around. I wasn't in my room anymore.
What the heck.. Wait.. this was my room.. I looked at the darkened, greyscale bed across from me, a pale light shining through the window and onto the carpet. My feet began to move on their own as I got up and walked to the door.
"Hello..?" I asked as I cracked the door open. I was met with a pitch black void. I shut the door. Another nightmare, that's all.. I thought to myself. All I had to do was make it through this dream and I'd be okay.
..right?
"Is anyone there?" I called. I wandered around the room, then looked out the window. There was no ground outside, only a thick mist that some light was streaming through. I considered opening the window, but that probably wouldn't be a good idea.
Well, guess I was stuck here for the time being. I sat on my bed again, putting my head in my hands.
Thump
I stood again. What was that? I went to the door and pressed my ear against it.
Thump
It was louder now. I opened the door again, peeking through nervously. I stepped out onto the newly generated floor, taking each step timidly as if I'd fall if I placed my foot down the wrong way.
Thump
Where was it coming from..? I walked down the wooden pathway, that seemed like the floor to the hallway in our house, but it was completely grey. I continued walking silently as the sound continued.
Thump
Thump
Thump!
I walked right into a wall. A wall that definitely wasn't there a few seconds ago. I placed my hands on it. "Guess I should look where I'm going..." I muttered. I turned and walked down the new path that had appeared through the inky blackness.
Thump
Thump
Thump
I fidgeted with my hands, my nerves getting to me. My breath quickened as I closed my eyes. I felt like I was falling. Falling through the inky blackness of this horrible dream. Spiraling. Falling. Forever, and ever, and ev-
"Sabre."
There's that voice again.
"Hello!?"
"Calm down."
"Who are you!? Where am I!?"
"You're inside your mind."
"Inside my mind?"
"Yes.. Well, inside of our mind..."
"..our..? Who are you!?"
"Hmm, You could say that the potion you were hit with made you aware of me. I'm like a conscience. A voice inside your head to tell you what to do, how to do it, guide you in your future footsteps... Anything."
"Anything..?"
"Anything, Sabre. I'm like an intuition, in a way."
"Anything..."
"Yes, anything."
"Well, since you exist inside of my mind, can you stop my nightmares?"
"Hmm... I could... but it would cost you."
"Cost me what?"
"Your happiness."
"..."
Everything went silent. I... I want to stop having nightmares, but at the same time, my happiness mattered, right..?
"Every request comes with an opposite demand, Sabre."
"I.. I'll think about it. Can I wake up now?"
"..."
"Please?"
"Fine."
I sat up, taking in a shaky breath. That was a weird dream. I got up and changed into a black jacket over a white shirt and blue jeans. I tugged on my shoes and opened the door to a nice, normal hallway.
I walked down the hall to the living room, where Rainbow and Shark were talking. I sat right between them, making them laugh.
"Hey guys, what's up?" I smiled.
Rainbow hugged my arm while Shark sat up. "Nothing much, we were just talking about you, with how you got a bit hurt in battle. You seem to be fine though, which is good. How do you feel?"
"Horrible"
"Pretty good!"
My friends continued to laugh and joke, smiling happily. I was glad for them. I was happy.
...Right..?
