Part 3; Chapter 2 - The Picnic

(here, have some fluff before everything turns to shambles :] )

=Rainbow Steve's POV=

I watched Sabre as he slept. This was rare, to see him asleep, even though he's been knocked out before in front of me. Yeah, yeah, watching him sleep might be a bit creepy, but this might be the last time I get to see him so peaceful!

I covered him with the green blanket on his bed, then made sure he was comfortable on his pillow. I pat his head, then went to leave the room. As soon as I opened the door, however, Nathan fell through.

I nearly shreiked, but remembered Sabre is easily woken up, so I shoved Nathan out and closed the door behind us. "What the heck, dude!?" I whisper-shouted. Nathan smiled stupidly. "I knew you two loved each other, my gaydar went off immediately-"

"I- Your what-now?"

"Gaydar? Gay radar? Magically detects gays?"

"Oh my goodness, leave this house and never return-"

"Whyy? C'mon, at least let me set you up on a date." Nathan pouted. I shook my head. "I doubt Sabre likes me that way. That was completely platonic and friendly. No romance." I denied. As much as I wanted it to be that way, there was no chance Sabre loved me romantically, right?

Nathan bumped me with his elbow, winking. "Oh please, it's obvious between you guys. You're made for each other!" He said. I stared off for a second. "M-maybe, but-" "Just go on ooooone little date? It doesn't even have to be super romantic! It could be like a picnic or something!" He interrupted.

I hesitated, then nodded. "Y-yeah.. A picnic would be nice.." I said. Nathan looked exited. "I'll go set one up for you right now!!" He exclaimed.

"W-wait-!" I cried, but he was already gone. I sighed. Y'know... maybe a picnic with Sabre would be nice..

The day passed quicker than I expected. Before I even knew it, Sabre had already slept for two hours and Nathan wouldn't stop talking about the picnic. He had already set up the picnic area and had gotten the food ready. We were just waiting on Sabre to get up now.

I turned after hearing footsteps behind me, seeing Sabre walk over and flop over the couch, casually sliding down the backrest and off the seat. I laughed. "You okay, Sabre?" I asked. He started laughing as well at his own actions, getting back up and sitting next to me.

"I'm okay, thanks." He said, patting me on the head. I smiled.

"OH SABREEEEE!" Nathan called. I rolled my eyes. "Oh my goodness-" "YOU'VE GOT A DAAATEEE!"

Sabre turned to Nathan, who just came into the livingroom. "What?" He asked. Nathan giggled. "You two got a little picnic date~!" He teased.

"It's not a date, Nathan, it's a picnic." I said flatly. He clapped, then pulled me up. "Woah-" "Go get changed for the date, Rainbow!" He said, pushing me down the hall. I stumbled. "It's just a picnic, Nathan, I can go in what I'm wearing!" I scolded. He shook his head, tugging me into my room. "No, you need a cute outfit for your date with Sabre." "For the last time, it's not a date!"

Nathan shoved a pair of clothes into my arms. "Change." He then left the room.

I looked at the clothes he picked out. It was a blue sweater with rainbowy accents. This was my favorite sweater! He also chose black leggings. I changed from my t-shirt and jeans into the outfit, then walked out to see Nathan and Moose shoving Sabre into their room. Nathan winked at me and I sighed. Poor Sabre.

I walked back into the livingroom and waited, staring out the window. Moose had previously said that the window was like a TV, whatever that was.

I turned as I heard footsteps coming down the hall. Sabre ran up to me, jumping over the back of the couch and landing in the seat next to me. He was wearing a plain green jacket, a black and white striped shirt, and faded ripped jeans. "They tried to put me in a suit, dude-" He said.

"I know where the picnic basket is, wanna take it and run?" I whispered. He nodded. I got up and snuck into the kitchen, then grabbed the basket off the table and bolted. Sabre followed me out the door and we ran together, laughing. I didn't even know where the picnic area was, but we had the food and each other, and that's all that mattered.

We settled for a spot in the flower field. I laid out the blanket, setting the picnic basket down as Sabre picked some flowers. He came back to me as I sat. "A flower crown for you, Raindrop!" He said in a silly tone, placing a wreath of flowers on top of my head. I smiled. "Thank you, chicken man!" I exclaimed.

He sat with me, pulling out one of those sandwich things. "What do those even taste like?" I asked. Sabre pulled the thing in half, handing one half to me. "You don't have a peanut allergy, right?" He asked. I blinked. "A what now?"

Sabre took a bite of his slice. "Well, take a small bite, wait a minute, and if you don't feel like anything is swelling up, then you're not allergic to it... I think" He said.

I shrugged, taking a small bite. Oh my goodness, it was so good!! I took another happy bite, swallowing as Sabre watched me worriedly.

We continued to eat, and luckily, I'm not allergic to peanuts. Sabre handed me some sweetberry juice, which I drank happily.

Sabre scooted over to me, patting me on the head and pulling me against him. He pointed off to the West, where the sun was setting. I smiled. "It's so pretty!" I exclaimed, watching the sun go down.

I rested my head on his shoulder as we watched the blazing cube of death sink under the horizon. It was really nice, just him and I...

I flopped onto Sabre's lap. "I'm tireeed..." I complained. Sabre laughed and adjusted me, putting my head over his shoulder as he gathered up the remains of the picnic. He stood with me in one arm, holding the picnic basket with the other. I felt him turn and begin to walk us back home.

I began to drift off as Sabre strode along, holding me comfortably. I was so tired... I yawned and closed my eyes. I was asleep before we even got home.
