Chapter 3.3
It was like your heart pounded in your head. Every beat echoed in your ears, leaving a reverberating pain in its wake. You gasped for air but nothing would fill your longs. It was like breathing in water, but instead of water filling your longs, nothing did.
Snow white eyes opened to the foreign world around them. A purple mist hung around, strange figures slid through the cover. Gasping and struggling for air had you flailing. In a small moment of clarity your hands formed together and with a set of quick signs and biting your thumb, smearing blood over your palm, a cloud of smoke appeared before you. "What the- (y/n) the hell ya doin' here?!" the black cat exclaimed darting over seemingly air towards you. You gasped once again.
"Ya fool" he growled. His tail seemed to form in strange angles and suddenly a bubble of air surrounded you. After a fast, deep gasp you coughed, the fresh air like a sudden punch to the stomach. "How did ya end up here Milady? It isn't every day you go dimension hopping" the cat frowned sitting down in the sphere.
After you finally caught your breath you turned to the midnight black cat. "I have no clue" you breathed. Your limbs shaking and barely holding your head up to look at him. "I'm just... really exhausted" you said, your vision slowly turning and spinning. "Oi. Don't faint on me. Ya have any clue where you are?! You can't faint now!" The cat got of its haunches and began jumping on your sore body. You groaned and slowly the surroundings stopped spinning. "I don't know where I am.... I was in the bedroom just a second ago" you hissed, reaching for your pounding headache.
"Did you have a desire to escape that bedroom?" the cat arched a brow, massaging your side.
After a long silence you spoke, "I didn't want to lose. To be caught in his arms". Kuro shook his head disapprovingly, "maybe ya were more panicked than you thought. Cause you teleported yourself into a dimension without any oxygen. You are lucky to have summoned me" he grunted, his golden eyes glancing to the side. "Thanks Kuro" you muttered with a grateful smile.
When the cat didn't answer you turned to look to where he was looking. There were shadows moving within the black mist. "Where-" "Sh" Kuro interrupted, his eyes narrowing. Your muscles tensed at his caution. There was something within that mist. Something hostile and awaiting its chance to jump. "It would be real nice if you could hop back into your dimension" Kuro whispered, slowly stepping of your body.
"I don't know how" you glanced over to the shadow which had become bigger. "I will try. Cover me" you whispered, sitting up. Placing a fist into a flat hand you took a deep breath. your eyes closed as you completely focused on your chakra. Testing its quantity and the way it flowed through your body.
"Ten minutes max" Kuro's voice spoke in a growl. "Get ready to catch me afterwards" you muttered. Redirection the chakra flow that often happened when you walked on vertical surfaces you took a deep breath and opened your eyes, releasing nearly every bit of chakra you had inside.
A bewildered yell echoed through your ears and the whole world around you tumbled.
"Before you go.. no-" he laughed nervously, he was never nervous. What had his panties in a twist? With your interest piqued you waited for the silver haired man to continue. "When you return from your mission. I want to tell you something really important" a goofy smile appeared under his mask. "Sure, but why not tell me now?" you asked curiously. "Well, this mission is the third S rank you have taken. I just want you to come back safe. With a promise like that you just have to come back" he chuckled uneasily. "Stupid reason... But, oh well, I promise I'll visit you after my mission so you can tell me this oh so important thing" you mused.
"Heartbeat is stable, how is the blood pressure?" "Stable!"
'Why are they talking under water?' the thought floated in your mind for a while. The voices dimming down to mere whispers. 'Oh, maybe I am under water' the thought made you smile. The smile felt I bit odd though, it was like your lips didn't move. Trying to feel the rest of your body you realised no muscle listened.
Something warm wrapped around a part of your body. 'Probably my hand' you mused as any other part would seem either odd or simply impossible to wrap something around. Slowly a voice returned. It sounded so sad, so broken, layered by a tone of indifference.
"(y/n), please... I didn't meant to. I don't know what I did but come back. Please explain what happened, please.... I don't want to lose you again".
'again? Was I lost before? Oh yeah, I was dead. Am I dead now? I don't remember dying' the thought seemed more amusing than frightening. Dead would be really boring if it was just listening to voices. 'The voice sounds so familiar' a name popped up in your mind, having you smile as memories flooded in. "Kakashi" you said it in your mind. A smile tugging at your lips, which seemed to follow up on your lips.
The warmth around your hand tightened before it left. Slowly but surely the feeling of having a body returned. The muscles began to work, be it with great effort. When your eyes finally obeyed and opened you stared at a white ceiling in the darkness. Your eyes moved to the side, a sweet scent hitting your nose. "Roses" your voice was raspy but that did not stop you from smiling at the sweet aroma. The flowers looked pretty fresh, maybe a day or two old.
With great effort and support of your arms you sat up and looked around the dark room. There was little in it. Just a bed with a nightstand and a chair. There was a curtain covering half of the window. There was an infusion strapped to a pole on wheels. A small tube leading from the bag of liquid to your wrist.
"Can I pull it out? it's annoying" you asked no one, glaring at the needle in your skin. Shaking your head, answering your own question you sat on the side of the bed. Standing up seemed to be less difficult than expected. If you didn't count the exhaustion that laid within the core of your body you were fine. Holding onto the pole to avoid separation with the cursed thing you walked over to the window. Your fingers, which didn't quite obey your brains commands, fumbled with the lock. When it finally opened you shoved the window to the side and grinned, breathing a long breath of fresh air. "Much better" you mused and leaned on the window sill. Your eyes wandered over the dark silhouettes of the houses. 'Considering the interior and the infusion, I am probably in a hospital' you concluded with a lazy yawn. Even though your eyes felt like they could close, your body was awake. Not really energetic, just awake. "That voice" you looked up at the night sky with a small smile, "Kakashi must be worried again".
Then it hit you. The memories came like a slap to the face. Kuro had spoken of dimension hopping. You turned back to the room and after quick hand signs the cat appeared in a puff of smoke. "Rest well milady?" the midnight haired cat asked, his eyes twinkling with questions. "I think so" you answered, shuffling back to the bed and sitting down. Kuro jumped on the feet end and made himself comfortable. "Kuro, you spoke of dimension hopping right? What did you mean with that?" you eyed the cat whose eyes seemed unreadable.
"Exactly as I mean it. Milady with your eyes you are able to travel between dimensions. It seems it takes up a lot of chakra though. Master had explained that it will lessen with training" he explained, his tail tapping on the bedsheets. "My turn. Milady, have you regained your memories?"
You shook your head, "some I have, but I feel like I still miss a lot". The cat nodded in response, "what do you remember after teleporting back from the hebi dimension?"
Your eyes widened. The snake dimension!? "Glad we got out of there. I don't remember anything besides hearing voices about 4 times or so".
The cat nodded and stood up, pawing over the fluffy blanket, he took a spot on your lap and curled up. "When you returned here your chakra was about gone. I disappeared to give you at least a little bit of time. It seems they found you in time" he muttered. A smile appeared on your lips. Even though his voice was monotone, the tip of his tail was shivering, showing the concern he felt.
"Thank you Kuro" you whispered as your hand caressed over his head. "You're welcome" he purred.
Your eyelids became heavier with each stroke. Shifting a bit you laid back down and pulled the blanket over you and Kuro. Sleep soon taking you back into its clutches.
