Gentle Reminder
I always liked songs fueled by female rage
The ones that tell you about the million wars we wage
Against a society built on patriarchy
How we need to come together in solidarity
The ones where you feel the pain of all the women that came before
Who bled and fought to make their voices impossible to ignore
I liked stories about the powerful women who clawed their way out of the depths of hell
The ones who paved the way for millions of women out of their shells
But recently I learned to also appreciate a different kind of strength
From women that keep smiling to the end
That live and flourish with all their heart
And turning their battles into compositions of art
Because only they choose how to tell their story
The ones who make flower crowns on battle fields
The ones that know their happiness is a powerful weapon to wield
Women that sing a song of tranquility
Knowing sometimes that's the way to reach
Souls you already thought lost to a darker power
To show people that they can't make you cower
I wanna be a soft-spoken voice in the middle of war
Because they don't get to change who I am at my core
I wanna be gentle and kind and still speak my truth
Without being questioned on my passion or prove
that I am angry enough to fight for my rights
That just because I'm soft I'm not gonna let them take over my life
I don't wanna harden myself for the sake of being heard
Because they would've already won if I deferred
I will gladly march to a protest with a poster in hand
Fight side on side until everything ends
I will sacrifice my time and my blood but never my heart
Because I am who I am and I will not let anyone tear that apart
