Brotherly Love
As I grew up you said it was brotherly love,
The age gap used as why we never played.
He hated me, but to you it was just a phase.
The other loved me, we'd play all day.
A closer age, but still that gap was there.
Excuses weren't believed so more were created.
We didn't have common interests, our genders different,
Again though, the other found things, he's male too.
This brotherly love hurt, love shouldn't hurt.
Growing, you realized a problem.
The biological relation wasn't there yet we were siblings.
It was nothing new but that brotherly love had gotten worse.
As both kids grew we matured, our differences caused problems.
We are family yet we don't know who the other is.
As we sit away from each other, barely talking, not caring,
You said it was brotherly love, now you went silent.
Our own lives were complex, to each other we barely existed.
The other sibling still cared, still loved, still knew.
We're family, yet this isn't a family.
You went silent, not masking his hatred towards me.
This brotherly love hurts, love shouldn't hurt.
If this is brotherly love, I don't want it.
