Chapter 36 Jack

Everyone accounted for, we lost three wolves and two lions and had at least a dozen injured. All the injured parties brought back to my house leaving some members back at the clearing to clean up the bodies of the enemy. I headed home with the only worry on my mind: Samantha. What she did for Mason was amazing, something I had never seen or even heard of before, but I wasn't sure what the consequences were for her actions. Once I knew she was ok I had to take care of some pack business.

Transferring enough energy to Mason so I could force his change was remarkable and her way about it...was interesting. Mason still in his wolf while he continued to heal at a remarkable speed, even for us. Where on the other hand, Sam was not healing at all and the doctors where getting worried. This time transferring my blood would do no good since she was already a shifter and should have the ability to heal on her own. The gash she had on her hip was a nasty one but nothing that should not have started to heal by know. They believe it has something to do with her giving Mason energy, possibly too much and left her with little of her own.

Back at the house my mate was helping out with the injured, giving her a kiss in passing it would have to wait before telling her everything that happened. I headed for the room that held Sam to see how she was doing and what the doctors have decided to do. That was my plan till I heard the yelling come from down in the basement.

"What the hell is going on?" I asked one of my men that almost ran into me on the stairs.

"Shit Jack, the new wolf has been flipping out on and off shortly after you all left. And in the last hour it has been none stop," his wolf told him. "He has been screaming for Sam and the past couple of minutes he has been demanding to see you. That's why I was coming up. I'm tired of listening to it."

That was interesting, it has been almost an hour since Sam collapsed. Making my way down the stairs I could hear Joseph's ranting start to settle. Still not trusting the wolf I ordered that he stayed in a cell while the fight took place. I liked the kid but there was something different about him and I couldn't figure it out. Sam adored him and took him in against everyone's judgement and I had to admit his calm presence seemed to help her more than the rest of us could. Accept for maybe Mason and Lawrence.

Walking into the room I saw not the usual calm young wolf but a frantic wild Joseph. Pacing in his cell, eyes gone mad and the stench of desperation radiated from him. My presence didn't seem to faze him. "Joseph," I said grabbing his attention.

Spinning around diving for the bars shaking them, "I have to see her. I am the only one that can save her," he ranted on, "Let me out of here," he roared.

"What do you mean, you are the only one that can save her? What makes you think anything is wrong with her," I asked, curious with his behaviour.

"She will die if she doesn't replenish the energy she has lost. It will be your fault for not listening to me. Let...me...out," he growled, staring me down in a clear challenge.

Just then I could smell Joseph's scent changed, it has always been a bit off but know it was stronger as his emotions grew. The more thought I put into it, wolves had the distinct smell of pine and woods plus the scent of the pack with a linger of human, but Joseph didn't have any human scent with him. "Everybody leave now!" I commanded. Once the room emptied I glared at Joseph, "What are you?"

That got his attention, Joseph jerked back as if I slapped him, shoulders dropping, head hung he cursed. "Please Jack, I am the only one that can save her and I promise once I do I will explain everything." He sounded defeated.

Shaking my head, I replied, "No. You tell me what you are first and why you think you are the only one that can help Sam."

"Jack..." he started but from the look I gave him, he said, "I'm...I'm a natural wolf, a born wolf and I have the ability to heal."

"Son-of-a," I gasped, "Well that explains your scent. Can you help with the others as well?" I had heard a rumour of born wolves but I thought it was just that, a rumour.

Shaking his head, "No. The only one in your pack I can heal is Sam. We...ah...we have a connection," he said evasively.

Red flags went up, I didn't like the sound of where this was going. "Listen, if you want out you damn well better tell me what that means," I threatened.

"I...we...have been together....physically," he admitted, shame soared out of his pores, he then quickly added, "I didn't have a choice I was ordered to. Fuck Jack, the last thing I ever wanted to do was hurt her." The man sounded utterly heart broken.

"You...," I started to asked but Joseph nodded before I finished. "And she took you into her home and protects you from your Alpha?" Today has held to many surprises for me and even more unanswered question that needed answers and soon. "One last question. Does she remember that you...?" Joseph nodded not meeting my eyes. Unlocking the cell door I stepped back to let Joseph out of the cell and follow me upstairs so he could help Sam.
