Chapter 28 Sam
I didn't understand why they would not let me go to the men I cared for. Confused I continued to look back and forth at Nickoli and Dmitri. No that wasn't right either. I didn't have the pull to Nickoli anymore. I wanted to get closer to Lawrence. I was exhausted, confused and full of energy at the same time. I needed...hell I didn't know what I needed but standing here alone was unnerving. It felt like I was being tugged in two different directions with me in the middle not knowing which direction to go. One good thing, I still had my common sense, just barely, not to attack someone.
Movement caught my attention, Mason stood tall, beautiful, proud and very much naked, I wished that someone would understand and explain what was going on. From all the shock looks the others had plastered to their faces, none of them knew. Staring at Mason I thought, "Mason I'm scared," I really needed them all right now.
"Sam?" I jumped back hearing his voice in my mind, tilting my head staring more intensely to see if it was my imagination.
"Can you hear me? I swear you guys could not communicate like this," I said part relieved and part panicked.
"Um, no we can't," Mason said, this time I knew his lips didn't move, he was in my head. "Maybe it's a lion thing," he said hesitantly looking a little pale.
Looking frantically around for the one person, although he had brushed me off, that my gut told me to find, Matt. Meeting his eyes I thought, "Matt can you hear me?" His eyes widening, that was answer enough.
"Sam?" he asked with reluctance.
"Can the lions communicate like this?" I got right to the point.
"No, what the hell is going on and how can you change into a wolf and lion?" he sounded a bit panicked.
"I what? Never mind that," still looking at Matt I thought, "Mason can you hear Matt?"
"Kind of, it's started off on the static side but it's getting louder," Mason sounded excited over the new communication.
The happiness I felt due to being able to communicate with someone was short lived. I started to pace. "What do you mean I was a wolf and now a lion?" I thought to both Mason and Matt.
"We don't know Sam, as far as I know this has never happened before," Mason said.
Lawrence and Jack moved closer, I had to stop pacing to keep an eye on a possible threat. "So what you're saying is that I am a rare Tlazolteotl and now I am also a freakn' hybrid, and this communicating thing is not normal and a good chance that it is because of me!" Fear of what this could lead to hit me like a ton of bricks. "What is that sickly sweet smell?" I asked then sneezed.
"All emotions have their own scent and what you smell is fear, which is pouring off you. What are you scared of?" Mason asked creeping closer to me.
"People wanted me dead or for themselves because of what I am to you, what the hell is going to happen to me now? I'm a freak that can communicate through our minds," I rushed out, watching the others undress, getting ready to change to their animal form. "I'll tell you one thing, I am not sticking around to find out," I started to look for an opening in the circle of shifters.
Seeing two lions I knew only by sight, "Hey boys," I said watching them, concentrated on them, willing them to hear me. They both stood up straight looking right at me. "You have two choices, fall to your bellies or get a claw in the face."
"Sam?" the one said out loud. I started to run right for them, thankfully they both fell to their bellies as I left the ground to jump over their heads.
Hitting the ground I heard the other say, "You heard that too, didn't you?"
My new legs were unsure but I made the best out of it, almost at the tree line, ignoring the calls of my name and more comfortable with my new legs I picked up speed. The sweet smell of freedom was very short lived as three lions and two wolves leaped over my head stopping right in front of me. Skidding to a stop, back peddling away from them, but also staying clear from the others, which have started to form a circled around me again. A good portion had already changed to their animal form making my anxiety levels shot through the roof. Squeezing between a lion and wolf, Mason and Matt, still naked and very much human make their way towards me.
"Sam please calm down, no one is going to hurt you," Mason said out loud.
A warning growl came from Jack, I was amazed that I could quickly pick out who was who. Launching myself between Mason and Jack I gave my own warning, "Leave him the fuck alone," I screamed in my head as well as some kind of hiss.
"Sam?" Dmitri's voice echoed through my head. The man I loved, the man that once held love in his eyes for me now looked puzzled, unsure and what looked like fear. Not able to look at the disgust he held in his wolf eyes, I turned my head only to meet the same look in Nickoli's lion eyes.
All those feelings I had for them and thought they had for me crashed. I could smell the fear on them. I could see the confusion and doubt in their eyes. I even saw the same looks on those who I thought were friends. It was the scent of disgust that had my legs give out. Curling my body in a tight ball, I ignored the all. Everything that had happened since I moved here, the changes that these people had to adjust to than what I went through and now this. I think it was just too much for most of them. I was to different. I was most likely a one of a kind. I was a freak. This was my cliff, my breaking point.
"Shh, Sam it's Ok," Matt squatted down rubbing my neck.
Concentrating on just him and Mason; not wanting the others to hear what I had to say. Sure they both looked shocked but I did not see repulsion in their eyes or smell fear. "Look in their eyes. I'm an abomination. A freak. Broken. I want to go home." The hurt I felt right now was worse than all the physical abuse.
Mason grabbed me with both hands under my scruff coming inches from my face and said out loud, "You are not an abomination, a freak, or broken. I never want to hear you say that again," he shook my head, "Do you understand me?" Turning to his Alpha that has not taking his eyes of us and asked, "Do I have your permission to take her to hunt?"
Jack looked over at Lawrence before nodding that large wolf head.
Mason than Matt changed to their animal form. Matt led while Mason nudged my hip for me to follow. Lawrence stayed close behind us
