Chapter 18 Nickoli

The sun crept over the horizon, the teams were almost in place, we had the house surrounded. I knew we were at the right place. Two hundred yards from the house, I could feel Sam close enough to touch. Wanting to bust down every door and window, the wait was killing me. I could feel Dmitri's raw energy flowing off him from his position, a few feet beside me,.

The river front property worked out to our advantage. Two small boats in the water gave them three escape routes and we had them all covered. On radio silence, each team leader would receive a brief buzz in their earphones from the team that stayed back at Jack's. Each team leader was being watched on the monitors and when in place we would get the go-ahead and each team would move in according to the plan.

Dmitri and I demanded to be on the frontline and no one argued. It only made sense being the top fighters, plus there was no way we were going to sit back and wait any longer. According to Joseph, we had double the men so it was not going to be a problem getting in and with few to no casualties on our side.

Crouched down in the shadows, sun slowly rising threatening to give our cover up. I wondering what was taking so long. I was just about to break my cover and creep up to my Leader when Lawrence gave the hand signal to move in. If I thought waiting was bad, making it slowly to the house was treacherous. Each step still felt like miles from my goal. My Samantha.

Twenty-five feet from the house the door opened, being out in the open it was impossible not to been seen. The two wolves that were stepping out sensed our presence before they saw us. One of them yelled their warning and the next second ten more came running out of the house. All of my team and what I caught from the corner of my eye so did Jack's, charged the house at a full run.

Before I could take down one of the enemies Jack's team was there first leaving me with a clear path to the house. At the door I came smack into two wolves; grabbing the closest one by the throat I pushed him further into the house. At the same time, a window smashed and the crazy Dmitri was flying through it, taking out the other wolf in mid-flight. I ran out of patient's hours after Sam was abducted, there was not real fight, I ripped out the throat of my attacker immediately.

House now full of my pride brothers and our allies, more of the enemy came out of the woodwork. Human's with guns and wolves in human and wolf forms. Fighting everywhere around me, only one gun went off before the human was put down. Wolves and humans flew across the room and out the huge bay window, the one Dmitri busted in. If any of them got through us our comrades would be waiting for them. Making it down the hall that should lead us to Sam, Dmitri at my side we opened every door on the way, not wanting any surprise attacks at our back.

Once again, just as Joseph said the last door on the right lead to the basement. Missing half the stairs as we jumped down, we hit the basement floor. The basement was cold and damp, for us to stay down here would not be too bad but for a human, that would be uncomfortable. It was a big empty room except for a single door, a solid steel door stood between us and Sam. Reaching the door first I tried to open it but it would not budge. Using my shoulder, I rammed into it, still didn't move, it didn't even dent. Dmitri tried next, ending up with the same result. Screaming her name taking turns at the door was not getting us anywhere.

Mason was the next one down the stairs. "Mason we need keys, tell everyone we need keys. Search everyone," Dmitri barked and punched the wall out of frustration.

I looked at him then the fist-size hole he left in the wall. Sharing Dmitri's smile we started pounding on the wall, our enthusiasm was short lived. In between the concrete was were steel bars. Not giving up, punching through the concrete making a hole big enough to look through.

Lawrence and Jack were the next ones down the stairs, Lawrence asked, "Can you see her?"

Shaking my head, I called out to her, "Sam baby it's us. Can you hear me?" Dmitri called her and still nothing.

That was when my brain registered the smells. "Sam!" I screamed. Dmitri must have just got a good smell because he too began to scream her name.

Lawrence beside me now punching his own hole through the wall, by this time there was no more sounds of fighting and the basement was filling up with my brothers and allies. From the corner of my eye I saw Lawrence stiffen.

"Fuck. Get the doctors down here now," he yelled, "and find those fucking keys!" Turning to the group that has gathered and blocking the hole he made he said, "Whoever cannot block what they are feeling get out and the rest of you block like you have never done before."

Jack made his way over and only then did my leader move to let him look, he too stiffened then yelled, "Quinn get down here!"

Slowly some of the members started to file up the stairs. The scent of Sam's blood, sex, and fear reached the others and so close to the full moon and with the adrenaline of the fight still racing through their veins the scent of fresh blood could trigger some of them.

I looked back through the hole Dmitri and I made, calling to my lion to the surface, using the ability to see better in the dark. The room was dark and damp, a small bed lay in the middle of the room with a hanging light a few feet to the side. Another door against the other wall and I thought I could make out the outline of a tub. Moving my eyes back towards the bed I stopped at the corner, a dark shadow lay on the floor that looked out of place. Bringing my lion closer to the surface, increasing my sight and that was when I saw a piece of her leg from the thigh to her toes.

"Oh God," I gasped. Her toes were in the strange dark shadow that now looked suspiciously like a pool of blood that was travelling down her leg.

"Can you open this door Quinn?" Jack asked, his voice bringing me back to the problem at hand. Looking over I seen Dmitri's face pale, he too must had just saw what I did.

The doctors now downstairs, bags in their hands, ready to look after Sam. Quinn was at the door looking at it when Mason flew down the stairs, keys in hand. Throwing them to Quinn, he started to try the keys; the third one did it.

Opening the door, the doctors went in first, followed by myself and Dmitri, right behind us our leaders. I stopped dead halfway into the room, the overwhelming smell of blood, sex, fear, and hopelessness hit me like a brick wall. Sam's body hung lifeless from a chain in the corner.

The doctors rushed in, at her side instantly, reaching up checking her pulse. An earth-shattering scream ripped from her throat as she tried to pull her body away from their touch. Lawrence at her side whispered, "Sam it's Lawrence, we come to take you home," he repeated over and over. Her screams became hoarse and lost their volume. Still fighting the chains and to move away from being touched, Sam was not hearing them when they spoke. She just simply was not there.

Jack on her other side of her place a gentle hand on her arm just like his pride leader did and sent calming thoughts through to Sam. Hoarse screams turned into whimpers as they, Lawrence and Jack, carefully lifted her and carried her to the bed. The doctors started to work on her immediately. Naked, thick and dried blood laced her inner thighs, bite marks over half her body, cuts and black and blue bruises over the rest. If it wasn't for her scream I would have thought she was dead. Nothing to do I stood helpless as the docs checked her out.

Dr. Bosje stood, ran his fingers through his hair and faced Jack. Shaking his head he said, "She has internal bleeding, broken ribs, possible concussion, and that's just what I can tell so far. If I had her in an operating room her chances would be touch and go...I....can't do anything Jack," he words barely audible when he finished.

I started to comprehend what was just said, my Sam was dying and there wasn't a damn thing we could do. Before it had a chance to really sink in Dr. Sway spoke up, "I have an idea. It's something I have been working on. Our blood will counter each other, but before it does it will give a kick start in the healing," he told Dr. Bosje.

For all I knew they could have been talking a foreign language with all the medical talk they continued with. What seemed like hours, but on a few brief minutes passed and both doctors turned to their leaders, Bosje started, "The only hope she has is by giving her blood from both of you."

Sway continued, "Your blood will cancel the others out, but it will give her some of the benefits for a very short time and start to heal her. Hopefully it will be enough to stabilize her until we get home."

Jack showing nothing on his feelings with this news asked, "What are the chances of her adopting to one our animal gene?"

"We have just recently experiment on human volunteers and so far it has done exactly as we told you. It gives them our healing ability for a short term and that is all. This is all we have and if we could use your blood it will help that much more," Sway said.

"See we think the more powerful the donors the higher level of healing ability she will receive," Bosje added.

Without a second thought, Lawrence and Jack had their sleeves rolled up and arms extended out.
