The tour
I looked at the boys not knowing what to say. I revised the sentences back, "None of us bloody know." How was that possible? Stuck in nowhere land.
"Hey!" The Tommy named boy distracted me. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. I mean, I guess I am. Yes I'm alright." I groaned in full confusion.
The boys shared some nods with each other before Newt walked towards me. "Why don't I give you the tour?"
They gave me a clean white shirt to wear and the whole time I'd to wonder about where they got this one from. "Where do you get these clothes from?" I asked Newt as we headed out of the room.
"No idea where to start from." He shrugged. "They're sent to us through the lift you came to this shucked place."
"You mean the metal box?" According to me it wasn't even a box, let the lift alone. That was a prison.
He nodded.
We went down a number of stairs, and then exited through a woody door that looked like having been destroyed by an earthquake.
What is an earthquake, though? I thought.
Sunlight stroke my eyes when Newt pushed the door open. First he showed me the gardens where a bunch of boys worked.
"Our food source." He said motioning at the right side, "And that's the animal pens."
We saw the metal box too. It was bigger than I'd thought. The place I'd been sleeping in was called The Homestead.
"What's that?" I said pointing at a-forest-type-place.
"Deadheads. Not much safe for you." He replied turning away.
It caught my attention with a tree off in the distance away from the whole Glade.
Actually, that's my safe place. I thought.
Newt snapped his fingers in front of my face that I barely caught the hold of. My mind was all glued to the tree. Once he got my attention, he pointed at the tall, grey, ivy, walls that surrounded the Glade. The walls looked like centuries ancient. "No one goes beyond those walls, if you do you might as well consider yourself dead."
"What's there?" I said as goosebumps stood on my body.
"Something not safe, either." He said and turned to head back. "The end of tour."
"What is out there?" I almost shouted.
He twisted back and his face didn't had the same joyous expression. It was anxious. "First, never go outside the Glade until you're a Runner. Second, never hurt another Glader. You've to trust each other. Third, everyone does their part. No slackers. And the last one that your life depends upon, don't ever even think of going beyond those walls."
