The Runners
I turned back to see the Walls moving. The tall, huge walls that looked to be centuries old were moving, closing the narrow way through them.
"The Runners!" Chuck shouted as he approached me.
"The ..what?!" I frowned.
"There!" The kid pointed towards the walls.
I gazed at the Walls as someone dashed in. A boy.
He was tired, sweaty, and out of breath.
Behind him another boy followed in. Then another and more. Their eyes glued at me as they ran past. They must be confused to see a girl for the first time.
They haven't seen a girl species before this. I thought about it as a matter of fun fact.
One of the boys came at a rest when he approached me and Chuck.
"Hey!" Chuck waved at him smiling widely.
"How ya doin' kiddo?" The blond boy smirked. Couldn't help but stare at his tiring eyes. Where's he coming from?
"This is Ocean. She's the Newbie." Chuck motioned at me.
Wasn't I the Greenie? I thought.
"A girl?" He asked like he hadn't noticed me at first. What did he meant by 'a girl'? What's wrong with being a girl?
"Yes, a girl!" I said in a sarcastic manner.
"Woah! I smell danger." The boy said in a laughing manner. "Ben." He laid his hand forward.
I rolled my eyes, and refused the shake. "I'm the girl." I said and rolled my eyes one last time before I left.
"How did that happen?" I asked when I heard Chuck's heavy breaths next to me.
"The Walls? They open every morning and by the sunset they're closed again." He replied through heavy breaths.
"How do they even move?"
"No idea. They just move." Chuck shrugged.
"And what's about the Runners?" I glanced at his smiley face. Where did the sudden happiness came from?
"Hey Greenie!" I heard a British accent.
I twisted to see Newt behind me. A big smile on his face.
"Welcome to the Bonfire!"
