Chapter 47
"So that's why Midoriya followed you back here." Midnight noted, rubbing her chin thoughtfully. I'm currently back in the lobby of Kitsune's agency with Izu.
Not only did I leave without telling them, but when I returned, Izu was in tow. He stood next to me, glancing at me every so often with concern in his big green eyes. "Yeah. Even though I told him I was fine." I frowned at my friend with mild annoyance.
He threw a fit when I tried to blow him off.
So he followed me back. "If I remember correctly, you're interning with Sir Nighteye, right? Don't worry about her, I'll take a look at her. But you should really get going." Midnight said with a smile, trying to lift his anxious mood.
His eyes darted back over to me, the questions swarming them. "But . . . Why did he shoot you?" I shrugged, shoving my good hand in my jacket pocket.
"When isn't he trying to kill me? It's cool, he didn't use a real bullet. Besides, this is a part of my internship with Kitsune, so it's hush, hush." I informed him.
This just seemed to confuse him more. "Investigating the League?" He murmured mostly to himself.
I scratched my cheek a bit. "Not exactly. Look, you'll know soon enough, but right now we both need to get back to work. I'll text you, okay?"
He seemed rather reluctant, but he had to return and I was in the hands of a Hero. So he left. As soon as he did Midnight turned back to me. "So what's this bullet that's not a bullet?" She asked.
Just as she asked, some sidekicks and workers began to move through the lobby, making me weary. "Not here. Kitsune's office." Midnight nodded in understanding and we began to head up towards her private office.
I felt the bullet in my pocket, the strange texture is similar to the one that took my Quirk. And now I have it again.
What are you thinking Kei? It'd be easier on him if I remained Quirkless. I'd still be a clear threat, Quirk or no Quirk.
Even when I pretended to be Quirkless, it was still clear to those around me I could easily take them down. But it would have been easier on him.
As soon as we walked in, we saw Kitsune working on her board, putting up new photos. As soon as the door shut she turned towards me and glared. "So nice of you to join us. While you were out fooling around, I found some of his contacts."
The hostility in her tone didn't bother me. It did Midnight, but not me.
I glanced at the familiar people in the photos and rolled my eyes. "Those are lowley pawns. And I wasn't fooling around. I met up with Kei."
She blinked, taken off guard by my statement. When her face isn't twisted with annoyance, she's rather cute.
And then the glare comes back on.
Well, she's only this way with me. "You met with him? How? Why didn't you tell me, I could've been backup, we could have captured him, he's Claude's most trusted asset!"
Not necessarily. He's just one of his higher assets. "He wouldn't have shown himself if I brought anyone. And he never contacts me, but he found my new number somehow and called me out. He said to stay away from Shie Hassaikai."
She nodded, looking at one of the photos of a man with a mask over his face. Chisaki Kai; Villain name Overhaul. He's the acting head of the group.
"So that's where he's most likely at. Anything else?" She asked. I pulled out the strange bullet, holding it out. "He shot me. With this." She took the bullet and inspected it.
She held it to her golden eyes, brows furrowed. "Hm. That's strange. Claude and his group don't typically use guns."
No, they don't. It's a handicap and if you need it, then you're pathetic. Not to say he doesn't have them or they don't know how to use it. But it's the principle.
"Yeah. And the craziest thing is that I can use my Quirk again after being shot." My hair moved to form a blade to prove the point.
Kitsune is as baffled as me. How could she not be? Kei and I are always trying to kill each other. Why would he give me my Quirk back?
Midnight looked at the bullet over her shoulder. "That's definitely strange. It seems the part of the bullet that held the serum is destroyed too. I doubt we'll be able to get anything from it."
I've never seen anything like it before. This isn't Claude's doing. Bullets aren't his MO. Not even if it took away someone's Quirk, it's not fun to him.
His is the Quirk Stones, that is his most valuable weapon. A weapon he's running low on. That's why he's desperate to find her.
She's the only one who can create them and she's been missing for years.
"It has to be Shie Hassaikai. This isn't his way. Something to have on hand, maybe so. But he didn't create this and he's not distributing it. That's probably why he's gotten involved with this group in particular." I noted, plucking the photo of Overhaul off the billboard.
I can't tell his age, maybe early to mid twenties. Short brown hair, narrowed golden eyes, his physique isn't good, but he's not as built.
Kitsune nodded, leaning against her desk and crossing her arms across her chest.
"Nighteye has reached out to me recently. We've been going back and forth sharing information on the Yakuza. There have been many interactions and lots of funding. This must be it. He's been utilizing a force, so chances are we'll be participating in it. Which means when we do go in, we're going to have to discuss Claude. Especially you. You know the most afterall."
Eh. Discuss him. But . . . Izu is interning at Nighteye's. He'll know.
He'll know.
Midnight gently touched my shoulder, shaking me out of my thoughts. "It's okay if you don't want to participate." She told me gently.
Kitsune turned to her friend and opened her mouth, but whatever she was going to say she was cut off by Midnight's intense look. This is one matter she wouldn't give in to for her friend. She's prioritized me over revenge.
I don't want to talk about Claude or my time with him. I don't want to talk about my past or what happened when I ran away.
"I'll do it. But I'm not gonna spill my entire story." Kitsune stared at me a bit before nodding. Even she has the decency not to make me do that. I'd just rather not talk about it.
Especially in front of Izu.
I wanted to keep my dark past to myself. I never wanted Izu to see the darkest part of myself. I don't want to taint his light. But it looks like the only way to stay is to show him a glimpse of it.
"Alright, let's start making files and copies." Kitsune said, pulling up her laptop.
~
"We're late!" Kitsune hissed as we walked quickly into the building. It's been a few days and today is the start of the discussion on the Raid.
Apparently there's going to be quite a group that's gathered. And that includes seven intern students. Four of which are from my class at that according to Midnight.
That's making this all the more dreadful. "Well you wanted a double shot caramel macchiato." I mumbled, making her eye twitch.
What the heck is a macchiato anyway? "When you're an adult you'll understand the vital importance that is coffee. Kitsune opened a large door to a room filled with Heroes.
"Kiri-Nee?"
"Kiri?"
Izu, Ochako, Kirishima, and Asui are here, as well as the Big Three. Ugh. The annoying one's here. And they're all wearing their uniforms, I'm the only intern in Hero gear, even if my arm is still in a sling.
Oh, and Aizawa? Shit, now I gotta make sure he's okay.
They're all seated at tables forming a big rectangle. The only available space is the front where Nighteye is.
This sucks. "Sorry we're late, Nighteye." Kitsune apologized, actually being rather civilized. I mean she is, just not with me.
He nodded an okay and Kitsune handed me half the stack of folders she was carrying. Without saying anything we both went around the large tables passing them out.
"Kitsune, Centipeder, and I have been working on this for quite a while, you can follow along and look over the information while the meeting is in place." Nighteye told the others.
He's rather different then I expected, honestly he looks like a salary man with green and yellow slicked down hair and rectangle glasses. Tall and very slender.
I ignored my classmates' curious glances and went to an empty seat on one side of Nighteye once my half was distributed.
Kitsune followed suit and sat on his other side. "We were just discussing how Shie Hassaikai had been in contact with the League of Villains, but there had been an altercation between the two."
Oh yeah, Twice was in contact with them recently as well.
A man clicked his tongue, gaining our attention. It's a dark skinned Hero with lock earrings and a green themed attire. "Even if they're from U.A., why are there kids here? We'll never get anywhere with them here. The sun'll set before we get to the actual plan."
A rather large Hero quickly stood and moved his arm over his interns, Kirishima and the depressed one, Tamaki. "Don't say that! These two have super important information!" He shouted, surprising them.
"Anyway, I think I'm meetin' a lot of you for the first time, so I'm Fat Gum! Nice to meet you!"
Well he's rather carefree.
Nighteye didn't seem bothered by Fat Gum's interruption. "We suspect one of the Hassaikai's main sources of income is unauthorized drugs. So I requested help from Heroes who are well-versed in those matters."
That's what Kitsune briefed me on. "I crushed tons of guys like that back in the day! And then, at Red Riot's debut fight the other day . . ! A type I'd never seen before was shot into Tamaki. A drug that destroys Quirks." Fat Gum seemed very angry with that.
So he was shot too. The other Heroes were shocked by this revelation. "Nozomi." Kitsune spoke suddenly to gain their attention.
I nodded and dug into a hidden pocket and pulled out the bullets. The one that destroyed my Quirk and the other that brought it back.
"That's-!" Fat Gum's eyes widened as he stared at the strange bullets.
"Nozomi and I were undercover recently. Things were going good until she was shot with a strange bullet, neutralizing her Quirk."
Kitsune began, leaving out the fact that I was then shot with a normal gun. "We couldn't get anything on it because the drug part was destroyed in the process. She showed no signs of it returning after a few days. However she recently came into contact with Keiichi who shot her again with another strange bullet. But this one restored her Quirk." She pointed out each one as she spoke.
Mirio stood a bit and looked at his friend worriedly. "Tamaki, you're okay too, right?" He nodded, looking at the first bullet. "Yeah. The bullet that hit me was different than that. So I recovered after I slept."
"Wait, then how come you weren't able to recover after sleep?" A dragon looking lady asked me.
I glanced at Kitsune who turned her attention to the person in question. "I believe that this drug is in testing stages. What Nozomi was hit with I believe was the finished product. That's why they shot her with the reversal. To see if that would work as well. In short the product is completed."
The man who doesn't seem to like us pursed his lips. "That's not good for us."
No shit sherlock. It was hard not to make a snarky remark, but luckily Nighteye began to speak again.
"We will hear from Eraser Head on the matter." He gestured to my homeroom teacher.
Aizawa looked as bored and tired as always. "It seems to be a little different from my Erasure. Since I don't attack the Quirk itself directly. The Quirk is an extra part with a special function added to a basic human body. Those 'extra parts' are lumped together as a Quirk gene. I only stop those genes temporarily but I cannot directly inflict damage on them."
Hmm, so that's how that works.
Fat Gum looked over at the depressed teen. "Right after Tamaki was shot, we had the hospital take a look at him, and his Quirk genes were damaged. Thankfully, they healed on their own and he's now back to normal though."
Nighteye turned towards Kitsune. "What were the hospital reports on your student?" Her lips pursed and she avoided eye contact.
I never went to the hospital. We were too busy. But she can't say that to him. If I were any other person she would have taken me.
It's only because of who I am that makes me different. "I didn't see the need to go to the hospital. I was sure it'd turn up eventually." I intervened before she could tell them all of her neglect.
Kitsune, although annoys me to my very core, is a good girl. I don't want to be the one to sink her reputation.
Nighteye looked between us before back at Fat Gum. My mentor visibly relaxed with relief before looking my way questioningly.
That was the perfect moment to tattle on her. But I'm not so petty. "What about the analysis on your end?" He asked the larger Hero.
"There was nothin' wrong with the rest of his body. It was only his Quirk that received any damage. The guy who shot him isn't sayin' anythin' either! The gun's in pieces, and the only bullet we had was the one that'd been shot! But thanks to Kirishima's brave action that led to one bouncin' off his body we were able to get one still filled with the drug."
Oh that's a turn of events. My gaze went to my classmate who looked so lost. He obviously can't keep up with this discussion, but he's trying.
The girls in my school and the loud one praised him but he didn't seem convinced.
Fat Gum seemed to get even angrier. "And after analyzin' the contents, we discovered somethin' that made me sick. Human blood and cells were inside."
Hm, that makes sense. I figured that this drug was directly related to someone's Quirk.
It's not the most surprising thing, especially with the discovery of Nomu. Hm? I glanced at Izu and the other students who seemed rather sick with the news.
Did they not expect that?
In this world?
The Heroes were a little confused but not shocked. One questioned how we're sure Hassaikai is related. "Nozomi had captured a man and after some interrogation, she was able to make him talk. That'll be on the fourth page in your folders." Kitsune informed them, and this time they began to read over them.
They better. Those took forever to organize and make it easy so even idiots with a single brain cell could understand.
The dragon like lady, Ryukyu, then provided her info based on a recent fight between two Villains and Fat Gum listed their contact with a dealer.
Still, even with this amount of proof, they needed more evidence.
Kitsune plugged in a flashdrive to a laptop that was connected to the projector before pulling up a photo of Chisaki.
"The young head, Chisaki's Quirk is Overhaul. His power lets him disassemble and restore things. And a bullet that can break down Quirks. Chisaki has a daughter named Eri. There are no records or details about her birth, but when Mirio and Midoriya encountered her, she had a large number of bandages wrapped around her arms and legs."
Eh. Izu?
I looked over at my childhood friend who had gone sickeningly pale and his gaze was cast downwards. Same as Mirio.
So Izu . . . he encountered the girl that's most likely being used to make this drug.
Oh no. He's probably berating hkmself. This type of thing will break him. His hearts too big for that.
Ryukyu grit her teeth and closed her eyes. "Don't tell me something so horrific . . ."
Kirishima looked at me, the only one of his friends not reacting to it. "What's it mean, Kiri?" I sighed before looking him straight on, eyes unchanging.
"For groups and organizations like this, it really isn't that uncommon. If you prove yourself a valuable asset, you'll be used as one. Regardless of blood. This girl, she's more than likely the source of the drug. To be more frank, he's turning his daughter's body into bullets and selling them."
Kirishima's eyes went wide in absolute horror, making me feel slightly sympathetic.
"We don't know if he's actually selling the bullets. At their current stage, their efficacy is still too uncertain. However with the story regarding Nozomi, I'd say they're just about done with their test run. He was using them as samples to gather more to his cause. There is no hard evidence."
"But he's gathering people and funds across the nation. If the completed drug would be able to completely destroy someone's Quirk . . . I'm sure they'll have many ideas for crimes for using it. And if they've developed a cure for it, they can sell it to whatever side they please."
Fat Gum voiced his rage on the subject, and the bitchy Hero who was criticising us turned Izu and Mirio.
"Wouldn't this have been resolved already if those two had just taken the child?"
Okay, that's it. "It would have been resolved if the Heroes and the Police were doing their jobs." I snapped, taking the attention of everyone in the room.
The Hero in question glared at me with so much force, but I didn't flinch. "This isn't uncommon at all. If you had all been doing your jobs and keeping an eye on the organizations, it wouldn't have evolved to such a problem."
"I'm not going to be lectured by the Girl Influenced by Stain."
Tch. Typical.
Holding my ideals against me using a known Villain.
"Nozomi is correct, Rock Lock. Stop blaming children for the mistakes made by adults." Rock Lock had the nerve to be offended by her taking my side.
"If it's what we thinking, that girl's the crux the young head will want to hide. She got out because of some kind of trouble. On top of that, some kid Heroes saw her! You think he'll just keep her at home? I wouldn't if I were him. Even if we push our way in, it won't matter if she's not there. Have you already identified where she is?" Rock Lock questioned.
"She's there." I responded without any doubt.
He shot me a glare. "And how would you know?" He demanded.
It's easy really.
"Organizations like that aren't really afraid of Heroes. Chances are they've already prepared themselves to be raided at any given moment. But they believe they're untouchable. She'll be there, but in a room that no one knows about. It'll be made of stone and well hidden underground where no light or sound will reach. It's common in Yakuza's and other crime syndicates to have a room like that. It'll be used for torture and experimentation as well as holding valuable assets. That's where you'll find her."
They seemed surprised by my words, even more by my confidence in the truth of it.
Kitsune stood and grabbed the remote for the projector. "I assure you all, what my intern says is the facts. Keiichi has been in constant contact with Hassaikai, but not under the League. Under this man."
I didn't dare turn to look. I know very well of the man who was shown. The man with hair black as the night and the cruelest red eyes I had ever seen.
I can't look though. If I do I'll be paralyzed with fear. Like I always am when I see him.
Eyes flickered repeatedly from the photo to me. I couldn't even bring myself to look at my classmates. I couldn't bear to look at Izu.
So I stared at Rock Lock. My eyes wiped of any and every emotion.
"This is Nozomi Claude. You aren't aware of him, but you should all know his Alias. The Red Reaper. One of the most notorious and dangerous Villains that has terrorized five countries. He's one of the biggest funders of this new drug and Keiichi has confirmed its success on my intern. As such, due to her connection, we can verify that she knows exactly what may be happening within Shie Hassaikai as she is very familiar with organizations business."
That's right. I know better than anyone what's going on in this situation.
After all, I'm the daughter of a Villain.
