Chapter 41

"Ah! Iida, everyone!" Izu exclaimed. Hm? Glancing over, I saw the rest of our class walk in. Well how about that? They all passed.

Well I'm not all that surprised. They're a tough group, that's for sure. Well, all the slots are filled up. So the next part should be coming up soon.

Just as the thought crossed my mind, the intercom came on. "Well, for all hundred of you who passed the first test, please watch this." The screen in the room turned on and showed the arena we had just left.

The field we were just in. What are they getting at exactly?

As I continued to observe it, explosions sounded and it began to crumble in chaos.

The memory of what happened in Kamino Ward flashed through my mind. T

his is like what had happened after All Might's battle with All For One.

It's happening in all areas. But why? It seems like a huge waste in money personally. But if it's for the test then it could be- "The next test will be the last one. We will have you all perform rescue exercises as bystanders in this disaster site."

Saw that coming. So this is a rescue test. Which means interaction with people.

For this it'd be best for me to work in teams. I'm guessing we're to put aside our differences and work together. Which will hinder me. I don't like working with others.

But this'll be the only way. "We will assume that those of you who have passed the first test have received your provisional licenses and test how well you can carry out suitable rescue procedures."

Rescue, huh? I didn't train in that much growing up. Only in U.A. This could prove difficult for me.

What? I blinked as people emerged from the rubble of the explosions. Men, women, children, elderly.

Or are they really? I can't imagine they'd really put children here. The others began to make a commotion at the sight.

"They are people who have undergone training to be professional people-in-need-of-rescue and are in high demand right now. The 'Help Us Company' or 'H.U.C.' for short."

My eye twitched. This is the society we live in . . . huh?

Well, it is adapted to this world where Heroes are popular. Still sounds absolutely ridiculous.

"The people from H.U.C. have dressed up as injured victims and are on standby throughout the disaster site. We will have you all carry out their rescue. In addition, we will score your rescue based on points, and if you have more points than the benchmark at the end of the exercises, then you pass. We will start in ten minutes, so please use the restroom and take care of any other necessary business right now."

I walked over to Izu and Iida. "Midoriya, Nozomi." Iida began. Izu nodded. "Yeah. I wonder if this disaster site is based on Kamino Ward."

I crossed my arms over my chest, a nonchalant expression on my face. "It is. The guy said he barely made it on time. They usually would have had this all figured out earlier." I stated.

I wonder if they did it this way because this was a battle that affected many people. Largest one in years.

"Back then we were focused on getting Bakugo far away from the Villains and staying out of the way of the Pros. There were many casualties in the midst of all that." Iida said, looking over at Izu. Izu kept his determined stare on the screen. "Let's do our best."

I sighed as Iida shouted out his agreement. Well, it's just one more test. I passed the first no problem. How much more difficult could this one be?

While everyone got ready, I decided to separate from the rest and think up of a plan on how to rescue.

For this part, it is best if we team up. Saving people is more important than petty rivalries. But it's still most likely the schools will only work together. I guess teamwork is a necessity. Man, what a pain.

I really don't like group work. But it's going to be the only way we can pass. I hate this stupid test.

So pointless.

A bell of some sort went off, breaking me from my thoughts. "Villains have begun a large-scale terrorist attack! This is occurring in all areas of 'City Name Here'. Due to buildings collapsing, there are many injured."

They couldn't even make up a city? What a lazy creator.

The building shook and the walls began to move down, revealing us to the fake city.

This building moves too? Can't they just open the doors? That's also effective.

"Due to heavily damaged roads, the first group of rescue workers have been delayed! Until they arrive, the Heroes in the area will lead the rescue efforts. Save as many lives as you can. Well then, start!" The moment he said that we all broke into a sprint towards the destroyed city.

It's a big area. And it's hard to tell how many people are in need of saving. Heroes should always focus on saving people, but this is different.

We're not sure how many or how severe their injuries could be. A quick and efficient rescue would be the goal here.

Save everyone as fast as possible but doing it correctly too.

It's not something to be taken lightly. And the most dangerous factors are the civilians themselves. There's a lot to saving people that aren't very necessary to me.

You just need to save them and move them out of harm's way. That's how things work. But that's not entirely true for everyone. These sticklers for the rules are going to be grading us pretty hard.

I'll stick with Izu and the others. That seems like the best route to go on.

"Let's start by going to the closest urban area! We'll work as a team as much as possible!" Iida instructed us. "Right!" The class yelled.

Kacchan took off in a different direction, Kirishima and Kaminari following behind him. I blinked. Since when have those three been so close?

Well, now's not the time to be focusing on that. I stopped running and turned to a fallen building near me. I hear a child's voice. And there's more. "What is it Nozomi, Midoriya?" Iida asked. I

zu had stopped as well, hearing it. "I hear a child's voice!" Izu told him.

I nodded, closing my eyes and focusing. "There are at least six people in there." I said, picking up on the footsteps and heavy breathing.

Everyone ran in that direction. Looking around I ran over to a relatively flat portion of the ground and kneeled down, putting my hand flat against the cold broken concrete.

Focus.

The sounds of other schools starting their procedures could be heard but I ignored that for now. Focus.

20 meter radius. Those are students, students, ah, civilians. There's quite a bit of them. But if there wasn't I wouldn't be able to pinpoint their location.

Tracking. Something that I grew up learning is to detect any people nearby by the vibrations of the earth. Sensing their aura and presence. Listening closely. A hard skill to master, it takes years. Lucky for me, I've been doing it since I could walk.

I stood and glanced over at my group who were being criticized by the 'kid'.

"There are three people in that building there. Two under a car eight meters south. Three in a hole in the building behind this one. And more to the west! Jiro, can you help me detect the rest locations?"

Jiro snapped out of her surprise and ran over to me. We both crouched to the ground again. This time her earphones stuck to the ground.

I may be able to find people, but there's only so much I can do. Jiro's Quirk allows a wider field and more accuracy.

We began calling out locations and Yaoyorozu and Iida set groups in those directions.

Since Jiro had the ground covered, I decided to go for a sky view. Looking for a stable building I began to scale up it and look at the surrounding area.

Like I heard, groups of other students were doing theirs in a more professional way than we were. Experience really does count for something in this situation. And our only rescue training we actually had was interrupted by Villains.

We don't know what to do. So we'll need to rely on those like Yaoyorozu and Iida.

Tch. This test blows.

I moved and stood atop a narrow pillar and continued to call out locations.

This is the best use of my abilities. Doing an entire process by myself will take too much time. For now, Jiro and I will be the locators. It's where her Quirk and my skill comes most in handy.

Blade Master doesn't have a lot of use outside of battling. And destroying buildings right now isn't the goal of things either. This is the only thing I can do. Besides, if I were to be a rescuer, I'd lose points because of my interactions with civilians.

I don't have the qualities of a Hero therefore I'd deduct all my points quickly with each person I took.

Huh? I turned quickly towards where Ketsubutsu was stationed. Nearby, I sense it. Power. It's behind the field. In an area where there are no students.

But I sense it. An attack is coming. My eyes widened only slightly and I cupped my hands over my mouth. "Villains are coming!" I shouted down.

My classmates and some of the other schools looked at me in confusion before a small explosion sounded exactly where I had pointed. More explosions sounded in all the other fields as well. "There has been a large scale terrorist attack by Villains." The announcer spoke nonchalantly.

My eye twitched in annoyance. These bastards had to make this test even more annoying.

I glanced down at everyone. Jiro and Shoji should be enough to be the locators. I better stop the 'Villains' from attacking the First Aid area.

People with stronger and flashier Quirks should be the one to engage them. But there still needs to be defenders in case any slip by.

I'll take that role.

Jumping down I ran towards the area.

Let's see, the Villain is Gang Orca huh? Tch. Number 10 Hero. Looks like he healed well since the Kamino Ward incident. Let's hope he's still injured. If so I can exploit his injury for my benefit.

"Villains have appeared and started their pursuit! Hero candidates at the scene should continue their rescue efforts while also suppressing the Villains."

No shit Sherlock.

Rolling my eyes I skidded just a few yards in front of the Aid Station. Strands of my hair moved and formed a blade and I quickly pulled it off.

I glanced back at those who were checking on the injured and bringing more in. As fake as this scenario is, it's a job. Protect them.

Rescuing isn't something I'm skilled at.

But protecting people is something that I excel at. And I'll be damned if my reputation is ruined now!

Gripping my blade harder I faced the Villains running towards me. The sidekicks shouldn't be much on their own. Easy takedowns. It's just their number that's annoying.

And of course Gang Orca.

Well regardless. No one is getting past me.

My mind wandered to my secret pocket inside my costume. I could feel the power of the Quirk Stones in it. If needed, I'll use those. But if I do, they might get confiscated later. They're my only comfort in case I run into Kei again.

I'll win on my own power for now. Now, who'll be here first I wonder?

Shindo was the first to react.

He ran past me, glancing back at Izu and the others. "Get everyone to safety! Toward the back! Get them as far away from the Villains as possible!" He ordered, putting as much distance between himself and us.

He put his hands on the ground and the earth trembled as he activated his Quirk. The Earth broke apart, pushing the sidekicks back with its attack. It seems effective, but . . .

Gang Orca jumped over the broken earth and stood just in front of the frozen Shindo.

A drawback from his Quirk is he also has to take a hit from the vibrations. Leaving him a sitting duck.

I didn't expect it myself. Gang Orca's power-dodge!

I dove to the other side as He sounded his ultrasonic wave attack face to face with Shindo. The sound wrapping around him and headed where I once was but lucky enough I dodged in time.

Shindo however . . . that has got to hurt.

"Shindo-San!" Izu shouted. Tch. I kicked off my legs and lunged forward. Gang Orca glanced at me, but I moved too fast and swung my sword.

He jumped back, but the blade still managed to cut across him a bit. Turning in the air I brought my leg back and slammed the heel of my foot into his neck, making him grunt in pain as he fell back.

I easily picked Shindo up and threw him over my shoulder and jumped away as he shot off another sound attack.

If I'm hit with that I'll be down for the count. Thats a paralyzing attack and I hate those! Need to be more careful.

Gang Orca began to walk my way. I could fight against him and dodge his sound attacks. But doing it with Shindo will be difficult. If I let him down, he'd be exposed to danger and I'd get points deducted.

Keeping him with me is the only option.

I got ready to jump, but sensed it just as Gang Orca did. He turned his head and fired an attack to destroy the ice attack heading his way.

Todoroki. Good. I turned and rushed over to Izu, handing him Shindo.

"You guys continue to evacuate them. I'll provide backup for Todoroki." I jabbed my thumb in his direction. Izu nodded and took him from me.

Todoroki froze the feet of the sidekicks and I took off to take down those who escaped his attack.

I ran quietly and appeared behind one."Wha-" I covered his mouth with one hand and struck a point in his back and he crumpled to the ground. "You!" They fired this weird web like thing at me from their guns and I cartwheeled away and threw some daggers, straight into the barrel.

Because I had thrown in when they were firing, they destroyed their own guns.

I ran at one and struck my palm at his chest, hitting the solar plexus. "Gah!" Tch. I spun and slammed my foot to his face before springing backwards to avoid another sidekick. These guys are too easy. Huh?

My hair moved as the wind increased. What the? Ah. It's the Wind User.

I glanced at Todoroki and he readied a fire attack as the wind user did the same. "Idiots! Stop!" I shouted, but it was too late. The two fired their attacks, but because of the properties of both, both attacks turned in different directions of one another, making the fire head my way.

I dove out of the way, narrowly evading the attack. "Hey!" I shouted in irritation.

Heat makes wind rise. Wind make the flames blow away.  Everyone knows that! What are these morons doing.

Huh? My temple throbbed as the two began to yell at each other. They were ignoring the Villains entirely!

Movement from the corner of my eye brought my attention and I lunged at the shouting idiot.

"Move Idiot!" I shouted as I slammed Todoroki away. The shot aimed at him hit my left shoulder and seemed to instantly hardened.

What the? Is this cement? "Nozomi!" I used my free arm to push him away again and jumped back to avoid another shot.

Damn it. I can't move my left arm. So this is their weapon, huh?

The rest of them who's guns weren't destroyed began firing. Todoroki quickly created an icewall to block me and him from the attacks as Inasa flew away.

I formed another blade and slashed at the cement holding my arm. It easily cut through since my blades are stronger than most.

I rolled my shoulder a bit before shooting Todoroki a glare. "I'll do something about those guns. But you guys need to get your shit together." I hissed before running around the shield and into the open.

I quickly rushed at the sidekicks, avoiding the blasts. Focus. Ignore those idiots. Take out those damn guns. Win.

I began to throw my daggers into the barrels of each gun, dodging and evading any shot headed my way.

I left Gang Orca to them, but they can't get on the same level to fight him. I'mnot sure if that was the wisest move, but they wouldn't go after the sidekicks and leave Gang Orca to me because of pride.

What are they even doing? They'll fail at this rate. They won't be able to beat anyone because of their weird vendetta against one another.

I jumped off the ground and slammed my knee into a sidekicks face. Using them as a springboard I jumped into the air and got out the little grenades Kacchan gave me earlier in the observation room.

"Eat this!" I threw them to the ground and the explosions went off and blinded them.

Smoke covered the area and I used it to my advantage and snuck up behind the enemy, taking them down with ease.

None of them could see in the smoke and I used it to my advantage. Never underestimate a trained assassin. A little smoke won't stop me from finding them and kicking their ass.

But these guys should work on it. They're going down too easy. They should do something, but they're not. Ah. They have restraints. I see. So that's how it is. So it's more fair to us.

The news both relieved me and irritated me so I didn't go easy on my strikes.

"AHG!" Huh? Jumping out of the smoke, I see Inasa fall towards the ground. Shit.

I ran forward, but he's far. I won't make it! Then-! I took out one of the wires I got from Best Jeanist and hooked a dagger to it as I ran. It'll work like a weight.

"Ha!" I shouted as I threw the wire. It quickly wrapped around Inasa and I yanked as hard as I could, making him come towards me.

I opened my arms and caught the heavy boy. Ah! Shit! I jumped again, Inasa in hand, and avoided a sound attack.

Tch. Todoroki's down. So is this kid. It's just me. The sidekicks are down, but they won't be for long.

Think Kiri. What can you do? What should you do? Gang Orca won't let me get close. He's seen that close range hand to hand combat is my specialty, despite my size.

This could prove difficulty. Especially since he's a top ranked Hero too. My options are limited too considering I need to be mindful of these idiots and the injured civilians.

"Damn it." I muttered, setting Inasa down and standing tall. I can do this. I will do this. I can't fail.

An image of a woman and a boy flashed through my mind.

My fists clenched and I got into stance. I can't lose here!

I ran to the right and he fired an attack. Using the weighted wire, I wrapped it around a sidekick who was standing and used it to propel me forward, missing the attack and bringing him towards me. I brought my elbow up and slammed it into his face, jumping away again to avoid another attack.

I can't stay in one place too long. He'll get me. Keep moving. Keep him guessing. Then come down on him!

I dropped my body and skidded forward as a cement shot was fired at me.

Tch. There's more of them coming. But I can use them to my advantage. After all, they're his sidekicks. He's gotta have a soft spot for them. I'll exploit it.

I put my hands behind my head on the ground and used it to push myself up and over another shot.

I tore off a blade and ran, cutting down cement guns as I jumped in the mix of sidekicks. Like I thought, Gang Orca won't fire towards his comrades.

So hes effectively shut down for now. I ducked under a hit and brought my knee to an assailants chest. I snapped the wire to the ankle of another and pulled, making him begin to fall but slammed my foot into his chest and kicked him far away.

One ran at me and as I got ready to strike, Izu appeared in front of me and punched him him the face. "I'll help, Kiri-Nee!" I smiled and turned. He did the same and our backs pressed against one anothers.

Fighting together with Izu. It actually brings me some comfort, as odd as that sounds.

We used each other as a springboard and attacked the sidekicks that had come to backup their boss.

Soom wall of fire came up. No. A vortex. A fiery tornado of sorts. As I slammed my fist into the face of a sidekick I glanced back at the two boys responsible. Both are still paralyzed, but they're actually working together to trap Gang Orca.

Did they finally snap out of it? That's not random. The way they're working together is intended.

That's right. He's a fish. This heat will dry him out. "It's about damn time!" I shouted, continuing to take down these sidekicks with ease.

Soon, more of our classmates came and began to help out. Even more from other schools. The sidekicks are done for.

How about Gang Orca? That Inferno should be too much for him. Right?

The fire and wind then blew apart as Gang Orca forced it to disperse. His body steaming slightly.

Damn it.

He began to walk towards the two boys. They didn't do anything. No, they couldn't. That was their last line of defense. They're vulnerable to them now.

I ran right over. Izu had the same idea as he descended from the sky. "Please get away from those two!" He shouted, swinging his leg down. "Get lost!" I shouted, swinging my sword as well.

Gang Orca quickly put both arms up. Our attacks striking his metal guards on his arms. However because of our strong attacks, they shattered upon contact.

"Midoriya, Nozomi." He knows our names? Ah. The Sports Festival, Kamino Ward too.

Well he might have blocked my attack, but everyone should jave another in the shadows.

I readied my hidden blade, he hasn't seen it yet. Just as I was about to strike again a loud horn sounded.

.

.

.

Wait, what?

"At this time, all the H.U.C. who were deployed have been rescued from the danger zone. It may seem arbitrary, but with this, all the provisional licensing exam procedures have been completed. After we tally the scores, we will announce the results here. Those who were injured should go to the infirmary. The rest of you should change and then stand by."

I clucked my tongue and stepped back. Releasing my Quirk, all of my weapons returned to strands of hair.

"It's about time this stupid test finished." I grumbled, irritation bubbling within me. This was way too much of a burden.

But . . . I glanced at the sidekicks, who all still layed on the ground from their defeats. It was oddly satisfying to beat them up. Took most of my stress away. At least its finally over though.

The test is finally over.

I glanced up at the sky, a strange feeling in my chest. This test was a pain in the ass. But the relief I feel is different than I expected.

I wonder why?
