Chapter 27
People passed idly by as I leaned against the side of a supermarket. The aftermath of the whole Stain thing is taking its toll on everyone.
His ideology is spreading on the web like a wildfire, riling people up to join the League and support his cause.
Because of that, there's been a tip in the scale of our society. The Heroes have noticed it as well, and they're all pretty anxious, although they're doing their best to remain calm for the sake of the citizens.
Of course Izu, Iida, Todoroki, and I got in trouble, along with our supervising Heroes.
In order to let us off the hook as much as possible, our battle isn't told. Instead the credit goes to Endeavor.
Well, not like that matters to me. No, the part that affects me directly is the constant supervision and screening by the police.
Everyone is aware of my ideals thanks to the festival. And everyone knows that Stain and I share the same thoughts on the matters of Heroes.
Then there's also the fact that the authorities are aware that my brother is apart of the League, which they believe Stain was apart of because of all the Nomu's.
So they're keeping an eye on me.
Midnight is working on getting full custody of me, meaning I move in with her, that way I'm under 'strict' supervision. But until she manages to convince the police I am to meet with my supervising officer three times a week.
They're afraid I'll go and join the League, or worse, become the next Stain.
The fact that I helped take him down is unknown. It would have been the only thing to help prove I wouldn't.
Luckily the internship is about to end and I'll be going back to school.
They said if they don't resign me to Midnight by then, my meetings with them will be cut down to once a week.
This whole thing has blown up in my face and all I did was say what I thought.
But that's our system for you.
"Kazuya!" I stiffened at the name but remembered that's what I put as my Hero name. I turned to Midnight, raising an eyebrow. "You don't need to call me that." I stated.
She smiled, holding out a drink for me. "It's your Hero name, of course I have to. Especially out in public. Come on, we'll continue patrol."
She turned, leading the way. As we walked, the lustful gazes directed on her only seemed to make her sway her hips even more. I sighed. Geez. This is what I have to deal with.
But . . . her pay is being cut for the next six months all because I intervened. The least I could do is actually be an intern.
Tomorrow I'll be going back to school, so things will go back to norm- "Kazuya the Hero?" Chills went down my spine and I turned quickly in the direction of the alley.
It's dark, so I couldn't see well, but a grayish blue eye glinted through the dark.
No way.
I opened my mouth and he shook his head, pointing in the direction Midnight is walking.
I looked over to see twenty feet above her is a purple smoke. In a split second he can turn it to either a liquid or a solid and have it drop on her before I can stop it.
She could survive, but she might not at the same time. Death by poison or stabbing. Both aren't ideal. And I don't want her to get hurt because of me.
Midnight is annoying, but she's been taking care of me for a long time now.
My mouth snapped closed and I turned my glare to him. Is he going to take me again?
One of the jewels on his waistband started glowing and I pursed my lips. I don't have any left anymore. My last one shattered.
But he still has an arsenal of Quirk Stones left. Temporary as those gems are, they still hold it.
So, what Quirk is this one?
My vision turned and I was encased in pitch black.
What the? I looked around urgently. Was I transported somewhere? No, that can't be. This must be an illusion or something.
A shadowy silhouette formed in front of me, gray on the edges.
I recognize that form anywhere. "What do you want Kei?" I growled out.
A deep chuckle reverberated in the darkness. "It's not uncommon for siblings to talk Kiriya." He simply said. Strands of my hair sharpened and lunged at the silhouette, but it only passed through him.
"Yes, but I hate you just as much as you hate me." I stated, making my hair retreat back to me.
"True." He agreed with a shrug. "I did only come to check up on you though. Rest assured, I'm not taking you back. Yet. I want to make a deal."
I narrowed my eyes on the black figure. "I would never make a deal with you." I hissed. Anger boiling within me.
"But you'll want to make this deal." He told. I highly doubted it. Anything he says is a lie.
He can't be trusted. "I won't kill those boys you play family with. Midoriya Izuku and Bakugo Katsuki."
My hair struck out slicing the silhouette and it disappeared in smoke. I could feel Berserker activate and I can tell my aura and eyes are glowing an ominous red.
"You won't even breathe near them." I snapped, my anger rising to the point I see red.
Multiple silhouettes appeared around me in a circle. "Weren't you raised better than to allow your emotions to show and take hold of you?" They all spoke simultaneously, giving me a headache.
"Fuck off." I growled lowly.
He merely chuckled at my hostile attitude. "I won't touch them. I won't go near them. I won't even tell him about them. But I'm going to need something of you. You know what I want."
I do. But I will never give in. "I won't tell you. You can torture me all you want and I won't ever tell you."
The figures burst into flames at my answer. He's angry. This fake illusion he created is the only way he'll express it. "Why must you be so difficult?" He spat, venom laced in his voice.
He doesn't take rejection well. If there's one thing Kei hates it's insubordination.
"I guess it just runs in my blood." I answered sarcastically.
The fire went high and blood coated the ground at my feet. "I gave you your chance. The next time we meet I will get the answer out of you. And I assure you, it will be excruciating."
The fire snaked up my legs, but I knew it wasn't real. So it doesn't hurt.
He's trying to intimidate me. It's stupid of him really. He should know by now there is nothing he can say or do that will ever make me fear him.
I'm not afraid of him. Not in the least.
The emotion I have for him is much simpler. I feel hatred. I hate him. And because of that I don't fear him. He could do anything to me and I still wouldn't even flinch.
And he knows it.
Yet here he is, trying to scare me into submitting.
The fire ignited across my body and in a flash, I was back on the street, Kei nowhere in sight.
He's long gone. And it seems he still has more of the Quirk Stones left. Otherwise he would have used that specific one at USJ to handle All Might.
I stared at the alley where he once was. "Kazuya! Hurry up! Don't just stand there, we have work to do!" Midnight called from the other end of the block.
But my gaze remained on the alley, thinking back to Kei's words.
"It always is."
~
I covered my mouth to keep from laughing as Kirishima and Sero burst into tears laughing.
School had finally started again. Kacchan just walked in, his hair in that dorky style. "Seriously?! Seriously Bakugo?!" The two laughed loudly, obnoxiously, but I don't blame them.
He looks ridiculous!
Kacchan is shaking, that's how angry he is. "Stop laughing! My hair's gotten used to it, so it won't go back even after I wash it! Hey, stop laughing! I'll kill you!" He threatened.
But because of his hairstyle, it wasn't very scary.
My shoulder shook and I pressed my hand harder onto my mouth, refusing to laugh out loud.
"I'd like to see you try, Side-Part Boy!" Sero laughed out.
This angered Kacchan and his hair spiked up with his anger like an explosion. "What'd you say?!" He roared.
I wrapped one arm around my stomach tried to stay still and not allow myself to laugh. "It's back!" The two buffoons laughed.
Kacchan grabbed both of the boys, but they just continued to laugh.
Digging into my bag, I pulled out three photos of Kacchan when I visited him at Best Jeanist. "I have photos if you want to buy a couple." I told the two.
Kirishima pulled out a wad of cash. "I'll take one!" He shouted between laughs
Kacchan let go of them and lunged towards me. "Damn you Kiri! Give them here!" I backed away and avoided his hands.
It was like a game of tag just like at Best Jeanist.
"These are going to pay for a new phone since you broke mine." I told him simply, avoiding his reaching hands.
"But the ones who changed the most, or at least went through the most were you four right?" Kaminari's voice questioned.
Kacchan stopped and I backed up over to Izu, Iida, and Todoroki.
The class was looking over at us. "Oh yeah! The Hero Killer!" Sero voiced.
Kirishima gave us a half smile, relief on his face. "I'm glad you guys made it out alive! Seriously." He said. Ah, that's right.
I didn't know because I was in the middle of a fight, but Izu had accidentally sent the location to all of A Class.
"I was worried." Yaoyorozu told us sincerely. A couple of them walked over to us.
"I heard Endeavor saved you, right?" Sato asked us. Invisible Hagakure jumped closer. "That's amazing! As expected from the Number Two Hero!"
Yeah, that's the story the Chief told us to stick to. "What's amazing is that you cracked a joke." I said, leaning on Todoroki's desk.
He frowned slightly, only slightly. "I was being serious though." He repeated.
Psh. It's totally a joke. I didn't think the kid could crack one of those.
Izu and Iida stifled their laughter, remembering the joke he told us while we were in the hospital.
"I heard on the news that the Hero Killer was connected to the League of Villains. Imagining someone that scary coming to USJ freaks me out." Ojiro admitted, sweating slightly.
If he was there half our class would be dead. "He is scary, but did you see the video Ojiro?" Kaminari asked his friend. "Video? You mean of the Hero Killer?"
Kaminari nodded and showed him his phone. One of the reports.
"Seeing that, you can see how he's really single-minded and, like, tenacious. Doesn't it almost make you think he's cool?" He asked.
My eyebrows shot up in surprise as the four of us, who actually faced Stain, looked over at him in surprise.
"Kaminari!" Izu called urgently, eyes darting between him and Iida.
He looked over at us and quickly slapped his hand over his mouth, regret in his eyes. "Oh Ii-sorry!" He quickly apologized.
"No, it's fine." Iida looked at his left arm, that is still healing. "It's true that he was tenacious. I understand how people could think he's cool."
Well he is a little cool. But the dude kept on stabbing me and that's major loss of cool points.
He's annoying. "But he chose purging as a result of his beliefs. No matter what he thinks, that part is definitely wrong. In order to keep anyone else from turning out like me; I will once again walk on the path to becoming a Hero!" He declared in a loud voice and moving his arm weirdly.
"As bad as it sounds, I miss this Iida." I sighed, shaking my head.
Annoying, yes. But pure hearted is better the vengeful.
He put his arms in the air and moved them as he spoke. "Now it is time to commence class! Everyone take your seats." He continued to speak loudly and I sweat dropped.
Yeah, annoying is an accurate word for this.
He's so damn loud.
As Iida continued to spout out words and the class sighed. "It's cause you talked weird stuff Kaminari." Jiro scolded the blonde. Kaminari hung his head. "Sorry about that." I smacked him upside the head.
Now he's going to be babbling all morning. But I like this Iida better.
Classes started and we went through the normal ones relatively quickly. It helped that I wasn't really paying attention.
I was thinking about something else. To which Present Mic noticed and popped my eardrums.
Damn loud mouth. Once the normal courses were finished, Hero Courses started. We changed into our Hero gear and followed All Might to Field Gamma.
We stood in front of the smiling Hero. "Anyway, we'll start now. Right. It's Hero Basic Training! Long time no see, boys and girls!" He greeted.
Man, everyone here is noisy. The only plus today is I sold all of my Kacchan photos.
"For this time's Hero Basic Training. Since you've all just gotten back from your internships, we'll have some fun with a rescue training race!" Of course we are. Of course.
Iida stuck his hand up in the air. "If we are doing rescue training, then shouldn't we do it at USJ?" He asked, diligent as always.
"That place is for training for disasters. Do you remember what I said?"
You say a lot of things. I don't always listen to it.
You just say so much. "That's right! I said 'race'! This is Field Gamma!" We looked behind him at the area where we're training today.
"A dense area filled with factories laid out like an intricate labyrinth. You'll break up into groups and go through the training one group at a time. When I send out a distress signal from somewhere inside, you'll all start at once from the outskirts of the city! It's a race to see who will rescue me first!"
And if we don't want to rescue you?
"Of course, you'll have to keep damage to buildings a minimum." He said, pointing at Kacchan.
I snorted, a smirk on my face. Kacchan not destroy something? That'll be the day.
Kacchan looked away, eye twitching. "Don't point at me!" Pft. You know he has a point that's why you're looking away.
He assigned us all groups. I was in group one along with Izu, Iida, Sero, and Ojiro.
We all went to different outskirts while All Might went deep inside the labyrinth like area. Hm, if I were to guess who would win, my money would be on Sero. Ah, but Izu has Full Cowl.
Well, this group has good mobility.
Suddenly a loud horn blared and the signal popped up on our maps.
I quickly jumped up and climbed to the rooftops, moving quickly across each roof in the direction of the idiot Hero.
I spotted Sero almost immediately and ran even faster to catch up with him. Spotting a pipe above I jumped up, grabbed it, spun in a circle and launched over Sero and onto the roof in front of him, continuing my quick run.
As we got closer, I could see some of the others. I ignored them and kept running.
Sooner this is over the better. As I ran, a flash of green went past me.
Oh wow. It's Izu. He's leaping over places. He's moving kind of like Kacchan. I smirked and ran even faster, jumping farther. Alright Izu. Let's go.
I jumped up and ran along a pipe next to him. "I bet you surprised them." I said, a half smile on my face. He returned it, continuing his hopping. "I think you did too. You're actually trying." Eh.
I slowed down slightly, making Izu go in the lead. I am trying. Just to end it quickly though. Ah, but our group should end quickly regardless. Yet here I am . . . What the hell am I doing? When did this start?
Why am I . . ? "Don't stop!" Izu called from ahead. I looked 0aforward, seeing his back as he moved quickly. Izu.
Pursing my lips, I went even faster, flipping over a small pipe and onto the next roof with ease.
I don't quite get this, but I don't necessarily want to stop running.
It doesn't mean anything special. Maybe I'm just competitive.
Whatever the reason, I continued my fast pace, still behind Izu who is faster than me.
Izu jumped far into the air.
Hey, Izu. You're pretty cool right now. And that is only 5%. Whenever you can go 100% without any backlash that'll be an incredible sight to see.
Izu landed on a pipe, but slipped and fell. "Izu!" I shouted, about to stop. "Don't stop!" He shouted as he plummeted to the ground.
I grit my teeth and continued running. Up ahead I see the idiot Hero on a building.
I could hear Sero behind me but with one last leap, I landed on the roof in front of All Might.
Huh? I won?
All Might held out a sash that read 'thanks for saving me' across it.
"Thank you! And congrats! I'm proud of you, Young Nozomi!" I picked up the sash like a pair of dirty underwear. "Yeah, no." I tossed it over the edge, making All Might fall and cry.
The others soon joined me, including Izu, who is flat on the roof.
He's beating himself up for slipping. He would have won if he hadn't.
Iida and I crouched next to him. "Midoriya, are you alright." Iida asked as I poked him.
"I see, when jumping in an area with unstable footing, I have to take where I'm jumping into consideration too. I have a lot to learn." I sweat dropped.
Well he's alright. "Young Nozomi came in first, but compared to the beginning of the year, you've all gotten a lot better at using your Quirks. Keep going like this and start preparing for your final exam!" Ah man that's right.
Those are coming up. Just great.
After everyone went and this class finished, we all went back to change.
Like always I changed in the shower. I don't like being around a lot of people in a small space. Plus it's more private behind a current.
"Kiri!" Ashido's voice whispered. Hm?
Quickly changing completely, I stepped out to see the girls who haven't finished changing cover themselves.
What's up? Ashido pointed at the wall, where a small hole is.
Is that a-?
"My little Mineta is already a criminal act! Yaoyorozu's ample yaoyoro-boobs! Ashido's slender waist! Hagakure's floating underwear! Uraraka's fine Uraraka-body! Asui's unexpected boobie! Nozomi's hips and booty-AHG!" Jiro stuck her plug in and stabbed Mineta in the eye.
I looked over at the angry girls. "Want me to beat him up?" I asked since they brought me out. They all nodded simultaneously.
I stretched my arms and headed for the door.
Cracking my knuckles I waltzed into the boys changing room. They let out girlish screams of surprise, but I stared at the shrimp.
"I'm supposed to wail on you. Come on." I grabbed the back of his shirt and began dragging him out.
"NO! Save me! Midoriya!" He cried out for the one person I'll always listen to.
Izu swallowed the lump in his throat and turned his back to him.
This just made Mineta cry louder as I dragged him out of the locker room.
"NOOO!!!"
