Chapter 22

"You can scold me all you want, I'm not sorry." I stated, crossing my arms over my chest in defiance.

Midnight stood in front of me, hands on her hips. I was kicked out of the nurses office as soon as Recovery Girl patched me up. I still had to wear a damn bandage around my head, much to my annoyance.

It wasn't that bad.

"I know. No matter what I say, you never regret your actions. But do you know how dangerous the situation you put yourself in was? Do you know if Cementos hadn't interfered then your friend would have-"

"Izu was saving someone in need. If Izu wishes it, I won't let anyone interfere. Besides, he already caused serious damage to himself. A head injury to top it off wasn't going to happen." I deadpanned.

She sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Besides, I felt worse. Pain is a state of mind." I shrugged.

She stiffened a bit before looking back at me. "I see you're still sticking to that philosophy." She murmured sadly. I didn't say anything, just looked off to the side.

"Hey, Kiri. You know if you ever want to talk, I'm there for you." I just kept my gaze to the side.

She sighed a bit. "Stubborn as usual. Oh." Hm? I looked up at her face to see her staring at something behind me.

I turned a bit, seeing Itsuka and Tetsutetsu. "What are you doing here?" I asked.

Itsuka walked up to me, staring at the bandage wrapped around my head with concern. "Hows you wound?" She asked tentative. "Eh? Ah. It's just a scratch. She overreacted."

Midnight slapped me upside my head. "A scratch my ass! You have a concussion and a slight fracture! Take your injuries seriously!" She scolded.

I scowled at her. "If you think it's so serious why did you bother to hit me you hag?!"

Her temple throbbed and she grabbed my cheeks, pulling them apart. "Is it this mouth that's saying these things?" She asked sinisterly.

I stomped on her foot, making her release me and we glared at each other fiercely.

I turned around, arms crossed. "Tch." I clicked my tongue. "Um . . . You two seem . . . close?" Itsuka asked.

Ah, that's right. She and Tetsutetsu stood in front of us, looking very confused.

Midnight smiled and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Oh, yeah. Sorry, it does look a little weird. I've known her since she was in primary school." She explained. They nodded in understanding.

Tetsutetsu smiled and Itsuka chuckled a bit. "It's different seeing Kiriya act like that. She's usually more . . . closed off." She chose her words carefully.

Midnight laughed. "Yeah, don't let her cold exterior fool you. Once you get close to her, she'll go to great lengths for you. I mean look at her now?"

I frowned, shooting her a warning glare. "Don't you have a job to do or something?" I asked irritably.

She laughed, not at all phased by my cold behavior. "Yeah, yeah. Anyway, take it easy." She ordered before walking away.

I scoffed. "As if. Hm?" Itsuka and Tetsutetsu were staring at me, smiling.

I raised an eyebrow. "Uh?" Itsuka grinned and stood beside me. "We came to check up on you. We weren't expecting you to soften Midoriya's hit against the wall. We got worried."

Huh? Worried? "Why?" I asked. Tetsutetsu patted my shoulder roughly.

"Why? Cause Kendo's your friend. And I wanted to see you. I mean you made that big speech about how everyone sucks, yet you risked your safety for someone else."

It really wasn't a risk though.

"You're not as bad as people think Nozomi." He grinned.

I stared at him weirdly, Then to Itsuka. "You guys are weird." I deadpanned. They just chuckled. I just met them today yet they're acting so familiar.

"So do you need to rest in the nurse's office?" Itsuka asked. I scratched the base of my skull.

"No. Recovery Girl kind of kicked me out because I was bothering her. She's about to perform surgery on Izu." I told them.

Itsuka's eyes widened. "What? Surgery! Is he going to be okay?" She asked attentively.

I nodded, although I didn't really feel so good about it. "Yeah. She is the best healer." I was careful to hide my emotions about it. In truth, I'm a little scared.

~Earlier~

"The bones in your right arm were shattered. It'll never be the same as it was before." All Might and I looked over at Recovery Girl in shock. "I need to remove the pieces of bone to make sure they don't stay in your joints. I'll heal you after that." She sighed.

Izu . . . maybe I shouldn't have let him do that. I should have just let them interfere, or do it myself.

Then he wouldn't have ended up like this. "To push and light a fire under a child who would destroy his body this much for what he yearns for . . . I don't like it. You're going too far. You and this boy. You can't praise him for this." She said, looking over at All Might.

She's not wrong, yet she is at the same time.

This is something that took Izu a lot of courage. Despite my feelings on the matter, I can't really brush it off because of it.

"Midoriya!"

"Deku!"

I nearly fell at the sudden intrusion. Uraraka, Iida, Asui, and Mineta rushed in. "Are you okay?!" Uraraka asked, the first one to approach him.

She looked over at All Might, not recognizing him in his normal form.. "Oh, nice to meet you." She nodded her head politely.

He smiled nervously, holding his hand up. "Yeah."

They're all so noisy.

The bed rustled a bit, bringing my attention to Izu, who is waking up. "Everyone . . . what about the next match?" He asked tiredly.

They all looked really worried about him. They should be.

He really did a number on himself. "Since there was a lot of damage to the stage, they're taking a break to repair it." Iida explained.

Mineta pointed at him with a shaky finger. "That match earlier was scary Midoriya. What pro's gonna want that-ahg!" Asui struck his head with her tongue and I quickly punted the kid across the room.

"I don't like your style of rubbing salt into his wound." Asui told him as he slid down the wall.

Recovery Girl walked over, ushering us away. "Be quiet now! I know you're worried, but I've got surgery to do now." She told them as she ushered them to the door.

"SURGERY?!" They screamed in terror.

Recovery Girl just pushed them on out. "Go on now, get out of here." They started complaining, wanting to know more details, but she just went on ahead and pushed them out.

I sighed and sat in the chair next to his bed, staring at the ground in remorse and anger.

I should have stopped him. But I didn't. Weren't you supposed to protect them? Isn't that what you finally decided to do?

"I'm sorry." Huh? All Might and I looked over at Izu, who's hiding his eyes with his bangs. "I couldn't do what you asked." He must be referring to that.

All Might had told him to tell the world during the festival the 'he is here'.

The only reason I didn't interfere with any of his matches, any of the games.

I should have though.

"If only I hadn't said that to Todoroki. That I . . ." His eyes are shut tight.

He's frustrated, sad, and probably feels utterly defeated. "You were trying to get him to realize something."

"It's true. Todoroki looked so sad that I meddled when I didn't need to. But that's not it."

Huh? What is it then? "More importantly, back then, I was just . . . frustrated."

I averted my gaze to the ground, unable to see him this way. I'm sorry Izu. "I couldn't see in front or around me. I'm sorry." Izu's heart is crying out.

And that makes mine feel so painful.

I'm sorry Izu.

"It's true that it is a regrettable result. Saying what you did was foolish won't change that. But you know, meddling when you don't need to is the essence of being a Hero."

Izu grit his teeth at All Might's words, unable to stop a lone tear from escaping.

I pursed my lips tightly. "You know Izu. I think I'm the one most upset with you right now. For what you did to yourself." I spoke finally.

Izu couldn't bear to open his eyes. He's doing his damndest not to cry.

"I don't like it when you get hurt. Physically or mentally. Because your my family." He bit his lip, willing himself not to break down. "But we wouldn't be so close if you weren't a meddler." I admitted.

A memory of our childhood flashed before my eyes. I smiled lightly, looking at the hands on my lap.

"I think you're amazing. The way you do everything to pull people out of their darkness. It's pretty incredible. You change people, and in a good way. That's the only reason I didn't stop you. It's because you are someone who sees all the good in a person. You have a way with changing people. And he needed it. I'm very proud of you. Although destroying yourself like this isn't something I want to see again. So don't make me."

He kept his eyes shut tight, but some tears escaped. "Thank you, Kiri-Nee."

I lifted the corner of my mouth in a half smile and wiped away his tears. "Always a crybaby."

The door opened and in came Midnight. "Ah, good your healed. How is she?" She asked Recovery Girl.

She sighed, glancing at the bandage wrapped around my head. "Her head broke through sturdy cement. She's got a concussion and a slight fracture. But I healed her up. She should be fine to go."

Midnight nodded and looked at me, relief filling her eyes.

"Really now. You have always been reckless but this takes the cake, Kiri." I gave her a flat look. "I have done way more dangerous things then this."

At this a dark look passed over her face. "That's right. Yet you never learn. Come!" She turned, storming out of the infirmary.

Damn it, she's going to scold me. I begrudgingly followed, saying a quick goodbye to Izu.

~Present~

He was in some serious trouble there. "Oh! My match is about to start! It's against that guy with the Quirk similar to mine!"

Tetsutetsu brought me out of my train of thoughts. "Ah, Kirishima. Yeah, you two are super alike. Maybe your the same person from another timeline." I joked.

Tetsutetsu's temple throbbed. "We are not! Ah shoot! I'm gonna be late! Make sure to watch!" He demanded, pointing at me before sprinting off.

"Huh? What a weirdo." Itsuka laughed a bit at that.

"Yeah he sure is. C'mon! Let's go watch." She grabbed my hand and dragged me back out.

What is with people dragging me around today?

She dragged me over to the classes area. Both sections are next to each other. "Do you want to sit with us?" She asked, pointing to her area.

"I don't think I can handle being around the blonde twit." I told her blandly, making her laugh nervously. "Yeah . . . Well, I'll see you after the fights!" She said with a big grin.

I nodded and went to my class. Kirishima and Tetsutetsu are fighting. "Nozomi! Are you alright?" Jiro asked, staring at my head.

Jeez, you bump your head and suddenly you're dying. What is with them?

"Yeah, it was just a scratch. Oh. Congrats Iida." He won his fight. It seems I missed Itsuka's second match as well.

The only contenders are Kacchan, Todoroki, Iida, Tokoyami, Kirishima, and Tetsutetsu.

Whoever wins this match fights Kacchan. It seems Iida will be fighting Todoroki after.

I think ultimately the top two will be Kacchan and Todoroki. Who between them will win is beyond me.

If Todoroki uses his fire as well, he may actually beat Kacchan. Maybe.

The two below continued to fight. They're pretty evenly matched. I mean they practically have the same Quirk, same fighting style, and same attitude.

They're basically the same person.

Dear God the world cannot handle two of them.

I watched the two duke it out. It's actually pretty interesting to watch.

I've always prefered hand to hand combat. Something about only using your body as a weapon just seemed more honorable. So . . . so . . . manly.

My face scrunched in distaste. Ah shit, I sound like that idiot. Well, idiots.

Their idiocy is contagious.

But it really is the best way to fight. Even adding some weapons is nice.

A sword, knife, axe, spear, scythe, hammer, anything really. So long as it's still considered close combat.

I grew up loving weapons. Sure, it's mainly due to my Quirk, and my own upbringing, but it is a skill I would have loved regardless.

People like Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, and Aoyama aren't fun to watch.

They rely mainly on long distance fighting, using their Quirks more than their bodies.

Although Quirks are apart of our bodies, it's just not interesting unless they know how to fight without them.

But what I dislike most is guns. Anyone can use them and have a false sense of superiority. It's a coward's choice.

It has nothing to do with your own abilities.

Oh? Kirishima chipped off some of Tetsutetsu metal. Interesting. Oh. Tetsutetsu chipped part of Kirishima too.

I watched with mild interest as the two continued to brawl, throwing punches everywhere.

The two are pretty serious, yet they're also enjoying themselves. They really are strange kids.

They're not right in the head.

As the two continued to fight, I wondered who would win. Similar Quirks, similar fighting style, similar thought process. It's like fighting themselves.

The cleverer one or the one who has a higher pain tolerance is my guess.

The two let out a battle cry and punched each other in the face, their heads snapping in the direction.

Then the two fell.

Hm? "The two guys with the same Quirks! Tetsutetsu vs. Kirishima! A head to head fistfight! The winner is . . ."

Midnight walked into the ring and looked over them. They're both pretty beaten up.

Kind of impressive they lasted that long with constant hits.

Midnight threw her hand into the air. "Both contestants down! It's a draw! In the case of a draw, after they recover, the winner will be determined by a simple contest, like arm wrestling."

That's the deciding point? Kind of lame.

The crowd is impressed regardless. I watched as they were put onto stretchers and rolled away.

Well, it wasn't a boring match. I'll give ya that.

"Iida, your match against Todoroki is next, right?" Uraraka asked. He nodded, standing up. "Good luck!" She grinned up at him.

I nodded as well. "Always go for the throat." They all sweat dropped at my claim.

It's valid advice. The throat is one of the weakest points.

Well, I can predict the outcome of this match anyway. Still, this festival is too damn long.

I don't really want to stay here any longer. Once this ends, what will happen I wonder.

I have a sinking feeling.

None of this seems okay. I'm not concerned with Heroes, students, and civilians hating me, but there is something.

Kei.

What is he doing with those League Losers? And what is their plan. I don't believe that they'll be giving up so easily.

Here everyone is, all happy go lucky. They're not at all concerned with what could happen.

An attack on U.A., one of the most guarded place in the country, isn't something to be taken likely. It'll happen again. Yet here everyone is, putting on an entertainment for the world to see.

They should be worried of what's to come.

I have a feeling they will be soon thrown into the middle of a battle. Heroes vs. Villains.

I wonder what they will do. And I wonder the effect it'll have in our current system. If they tip the balance, then our whole society will be questioned.

Then there will be chaos.

If that's the case then I should just let them enjoy this.

This happiness and light. Let them enjoy it while it lasts.

Because they won't be able to for long.
