Chapter 12
A lot has happened this first semester I attended U.A.
Izu received his Quirk, One For All. Kacchan felt frustration for the first time in a long time. I made friends other then the two childhood ones. My class is able to get past my cold exterior and treat me like a friend. We were attacked by villains. Izu shattered both legs and a finger, again. All Might's wound worsened, shortening his time of transformation. Aizawa was broken badly. And I met the familiar face of my brother in the fight.
I failed to kill him.
But everyone survived. Everyone's alive. But for students, that experience made them realize the dangers of being a hero. And for Izu and I, we realized that All Might, the Number One Hero, is in danger.
The day after the League of Villains attacked USJ, school was closed temporarily. I doubt anyone was able to take it easy though. Not after being toyed with by villains.
The thugs weren't the problem. Nomu, Kurogiri, Shigaraki Tomura, and Kei were the ones that instilled fear into their minds. A new enemy has risen and I'm afraid that we're going to have to fight them again, when we least expect it.
"Kiri-Nee." Izu's voice brought me out of my train of thought. Blinking, I glanced over at my childhood friend. "Hm?" I asked. He smiled lightly as we walked towards our classroom. "Mom wanted to thank you again for fixing the roof." He repeated.
I smiled slightly. "No problem. Your moms done a lot for me. It's no biggie." I told him. He chuckled and we entered homeroom. "Good morning." Izu greeted.
Uraraka, Kirishima, and a few others smiled over at us. "Good morning." They greeted.
Ignoring their greeting, I took my seat and leaned my cheek in my hand, already bored of class that hasn't even started yet.
They soon began talking about the news report we were on about the incident at USJ. I'm not that surprised that they're still talking about that. It's a pretty big thing.
Mineta was shouting about wetting himself when Kacchan flared up. "Shut up! Be quiet scum!" He roared, making him and Izu jump in fear. "Kacchan, keep your voice down, it's too early to be screaming." I spoke nonchalantly. "Shut it Kiri!" He shouted at me.
I rolled my eyes, not in the mood to fight with him today. "Everyone! Morning homeroom is about to start! Stop talking and take your seats!" Iida shouted, walking quickly into the room.
"We're already in our seats." Kirishima called out. "You're the only one who's not." Kaminari added.
Iida quickly took his seat. "Shoot!" He said, realizing that there was no need for it. "Don't worry about it." Uraraka said care freely. I raised an eyebrow at the two.
Yeah, I guess they are my friends. Definitely a unique duo. "Tsuyu-Chan, who's gonna teach homeroom today?" Mina questioned Asui.
My mind drifted to Aizawa-Sensei. The memory of his arms twisted the wrong way and the pool of blood around him is still fresh in my mind.
The door to class opened, drawing everyone's attention. There, with bandages covering his face and both arms, was the man himself.
"Morning." He greeted through the bandages.
"Aizawa-Sensei, you're back too soon!" The entire class shouted as I sweat dropped at his appearance.
What a stubborn person. "You're too much of a pro!" Kaminari shouted, looking at his bandaged appearance. Iida's hand shot into the air. "So you're alright Aizawa-Sensei?" He asked loudly.
"Iida . . ." I trailed off, eye twitching. "Can you really call that 'all right'?" Uraraka asked.
Aizawa just walked to the podium and faced us. "My well being doesn't matter. More importantly, the fight is not over yet."
Is he talking about the League of Villains? Or perhaps Kei? No, he wasn't conscious when Kei made his appearance. "The U.A. Sports Festival is drawing near."
Ah . . . I raised my hand lazily in the air. "Sensei-" I was interrupted. "No, you cannot take a failing grade Nozomi." I clucked my tongue in annoyance, dropping my arm.
Damn it all.
Izu, Uraraka, Kirishima, and Kaminari chuckled at his knowledge of me.
Sports Festival? This is so lame. "That's a super normal school event!" Kirishima was fired up. Kaminari places his hand on Kirishima's face and moved him away, stopping his excitement.
"Wait a minute!" He interrupted. "Is it okay to have a Sports Festival so soon after the villains snuck inside?" Jiro questioned our teacher. "What if they attack us again or something?" Ojiro asked worriedly.
"Apparently they think of it as U.A. showing that our crisis management system is solid as a rock by holding the event. Security will also be strengthened to five times that of previous years."
Uraraka and Mina looked nervous. "But . . ." Uraraka trailed off, worry etched onto her face.
I sighed. "They're not stupid enough to attack the Sports Festival." I spoke, drawing everyone's attention to me as I looked off with a bored expression on my face.
"Pro-Heroes always come to check out the students themselves along with civilians. Not to mention the heroes that are our teachers that will naturally watch and even be the proctors. It's a place where almost all heroes are gathered in one day. It'd be foolish to attack the Festival. However it would be an excellent chance to do some crime in town due to the lack of heroes and civilians." I added the last part thoughtfully.
This just made them sweat dropped. "Kiri-Nee." Izu murmured, unsure what to say. "Well, it makes me feel better." Uraraka and Ojiro smiled lightly.
"Nozomi is correct. If they did attack it would be foolish and just prove that they're nothing but thugs. Above all, our Sports Festival is a huge chance. It's not an event to be cancelled because of a few villains. Our Sports Festival is one of Japan's biggest events. In the past, the Olympics were called a festival of sports, and the whole country was crazy about them. As you know, with reductions in scale and population, they're now a shell of their former glory. And now, for Japan, what has taken the place of those Olympics is the U.A. Sports Festival."
Basically we're their entertainment. "Of course all the top heroes around the country will be watching either in person or on television. For scouting purposes!" Yaoyorozu said, clenching her fist.
Ah, that's right scouting. Such a pain.
"After we graduate, it's typical to join a pro agency as a sidekick." Kaminari said excitedly.
"A lot of people miss their chance to become independent after that and become eternal sidekicks though." Jiro reminded him.
She turned to him. "Kaminari, I feel like you'd be one of them. Since you're dumb." Kaminari deflated. Feeling the effects of her words. Well she's not entirely wrong.
"Of course, joining a famous hero agency will get you more experience and popularity. Time is limited. If you expect to go pro, then the path to your future will open up at this event. One chance a year, a total of three chances. No aspiring heroes can afford to miss this event. If you understand that, then don't slack off on your preparations!" Aizawa-Sensei ordered.
"Yes Sir!" The class shouted. They're all excited and nervous.
Heroes huh?
I closed my eyes, laying my head in my arms on the desk. I forget this is a school for those who have the deepest desires to become heroes. That's the one thing everyone shares.
Everyone except me.
It's all pointless.
After all, there are no such things as Heroes.

"Kiri. Kiri. Kiri!" I looked up, shooting a glare at Kirishima. "What?" I questioned in annoyance. He sighed, but smiled none the less. "Sleeping again. It's lunchtime now." He informed me.
I grumbled and looked around to see everyone buzzing in excitement. Jeez. Well I'd expect no less.
Kirishima looked at me curiously. "Didn't get enough sleep?" He questioned. I shrugged a bit. "Eh. No less then usual." I told him.
Izu walked over to my desk, smiling. "Everyone's so into it, huh?" He asked, looking around at them.
The red haired idiot began shouting in excitement again. Well, it's typical of him. "You're not? We have enrolled here to become Heroes, so of course we would get fired up!" Iida said, standing next to us, making weird motions.
Well, that's Iida for you. "Midoriya, Nozomi, you don't feel the same?" He asked us.
Izu put his hands up. "Of course I do!" He assured, determination and anxiety in him. "Not really." I stated. Iida turned to me and began going off.
That is, until I tensed, turning after sensing a strange aura. "Deku, Kiri, Iida." They turned as well.
Uraraka stood there, a dark look on her face as she emitted a strong aura. "Let's do our best at the Sports Festival!" I raised an eyebrow.
She's a whole new level of fired up. "U-Uraraka, your face! It's . . ." Izu and Iida became nervous and worried about her change in attitude. "What's wrong? You don't look carefree at all, even though that's what your name means." Mina said, popping up behind us.
She stomped her foot and threw her fist in the air. "Everyone! I'm gonna do my best!" She declared, the scary look still on her face. "Yeah!" Iida and Mina threw their hands up in the air, into the spirit, whereas Izu and Asui did it so much as to let her know they were into it as well, but were still caught off guard by her change in attitude.
She turned to some of the others and did the same. "I'm gonna do my best!" She shouted again. They put their hands up, feeling a bit pressured to do so.
I stood and leaned my arm on Izu's shoulder. "I think she's broken." I told him, making him laugh nervously.
After Uraraka did that a few more times, the four of us headed to the cafeteria for lunch. "Uraraka." Izu spoke. She glanced over, a smile on her face. "Yes?" She asked.
After a bit she returned to her normal self. "Why did you decided to come to U.A and become a Pro Hero?" Izu questioned.
She jumped, not expecting that question. "Huh? Uh . . . because . . . money." She admitted. I blinked. "Money?" Izu and I asked simultaneously. She scratched her head quickly, a light blush of embarrassment on her face. "You want to become a hero for money?" Izu clarified.
"To boil it down simply, yes." She waved her hand quickly towards us. "Sorry it's such an unwholesome reason. You and Iida have such admirable motivations, it's embarrassing." She admitted, looking away from us.
"Why? How is having a goal to support your livelihood not admirable?" Iida asked, doing unnecessary hand movements like always. Izu nodded in agreement.
"Right. But it's unexpected." He admitted. She sighed softly. "My family owns a construction company, but we haven't gotten any work at all, so we're flat broke. This isn't really something to tell other people though."
Izu, Iida, and I listened to her, processing it. "Construction . . ." I murmured. Izu's eyes lit up at an idea. "With her Quirk, if she gets licensed, then it'd bring costs way down right?" He asked me and Iida.
I nodded, thinking the same thing. "She could make any raw material float. They wouldn't need any heavy equipment." Iida added.
Uraraka nodded and pointed at us as she hopped towards us. "Right?! That's what I told dad when I was little! But . . ." She trailed off before telling us what had happened.
I envisioned it as she spoke. A tiny Uraraka looking up at her dad. "Yeah! When I get big, I'll help you and mommy!" The tiny Uraraka declared.
She continued setting up the story. "I appreciate the thought Ochaco. But as your dad, I'd be even happier if you could achieve your dream. When that happens, you can take us to Hawaii!" She sighed and gripped her skirt as she stopped the memory train.
"I'll definitely become a hero and make money and let my parents take it easy." She looked up, determination in her eyes.
Even when it's for money, it's a pure intention huh? She must really love her parents. Iida began clapping wildly. "Bravo! Uraraka, bravo!" He shouted as he continued.
"Oh boy, here he goes." I muttered, making Izu chuckle. But he stared at Uraraka thoughtfully.
Suddenly, an even louder, and more annoying, laugh sounded. "Young Midoriya is here!" All Might made a ridiculous entrance and pointed at Izu, half hidden around the corner.
"The loud ones here." I grumbled. The three just stared wide eyed. "All Might? What's the matter?" Izu asked the moron.
"Lunch! Wanna eat together?" He asked, holding his bento. "He's like a maiden!" Uraraka whispered loudly to me.
I nodded, staring at the buffoon. "How about it?" All Might asked. Izu looked over at me and Iida. Iida smiled lightly and nodded. "As long as I don't have to." I said, throwing my hands behind my head. Izu smiled and jogged over to the hero. "I'd love to!"
Iida, Uraraka, and I headed to the cafeteria together and waited in line. "I wonder what he wanted with Deku." Uraraka spoke up. "I heard that when All Might was attacked by villains during the USJ incident, he rushed out alone to help. Perhaps it's about that?" Iida inputted.
Uraraka smacked her fist into her hand as she realized that's probably it.
"Remember what Asui said on the bus?" My mind drifted to when the frog girl said that their Quirks are similar.
"The boundless power they both have are similar too. So maybe All Might has taken a liking to him. He's amazing." Iida spoke as Uraraka nodded every step of the way in agreement.
Well, they're not too far off the mark I suppose. "Ah, Kiri. Why'd you come to U.A.? I know you told us all at one point it was to pass the time, but surely that's not it." Uraraka asked.
Hm?
I glanced at the two who were looking at me curiously.
Well I don't have any good intentions like everyone else. I couldn't care less about becoming a hero. But . . . an image of Izu and Kacchan popped into my mind.
Why I came here.
Someone's gotta keep Kacchan from killing Izu. And Izu needed a friend. Although he's doing fine now. I don't need to be his crutch anymore. Essentially I wanted to make sure both boys were safe.
But . . . that's not exactly why either.
I looked forward. "Who knows?"
