Chapter 1
"Kacchan!" I shouted, running to the boy and his two friends. They turned to me and the other two paled. Kacchan moved back, but not fast enough. I moved forward and punched the boy in the face, before standing defensively in front of Izuku and a crying boy.
I glared at the fallen boy. My bright red eyes holding anger and the wind picked up, lifting my short black hair that slowly turned a lighter shade at the tips. I clenched my fists.
Kacchan narrowed his dimmer red eyes at me. "Butt out Kiri!" He shouted. I narrowed my eyes more and kicked him. He groaned and stood up. Using his Quirk, small explosions danced across his palms.
"Ha?! You want to fight?!" I shouted. Kacchan lunged at me and I did the same.
~Ten Years Later~
The alarm next to me blared and I groaned. Rolling over on my bed, I slammed my hand down on the alarm clock, before burying myself into my pillow, wrapping my comforter around me like a cocoon.
I planned on going back to sleep, but then I thought of Izu and Kacchan. If I skip Kacchan is surely going to pick on him again. And if I don't get up and there's a hero fight, Izu will be late for school.
I groaned. Man, those two. Sighing, I threw the blanket off and swung my feet over the edge, letting them touch the cold hardwood floor.
I went to the bathroom and began my shower. It's been a long time. I've known Izu and Kacchan for almost ten years now. Those two have always been priorities. They were my friends. They're like little brothers to me. Even when Kacchan became a self-absorbed asshole full of pride because of his Quirk.
His Quirk is pretty cool. Explosion is not only flashy, but strong. He's good at fighting, and he's smart despite his stupid actions. He aims to be the top hero.
Izu however is Quirkless. The two of us are known as the Quirkless duo. However when people tried to pick on me, I'd go on a rampage and beat them black and blue. No one dared to pick on me, not even Kacchan. Unless he's pissed off.
But Izu isn't as strong. Because he's always dreamed to be a hero, he was crushed when he was told to give up. The kids at school would pick on him, call him names, they terrorized them.
Kacchan being at the top. Izu doesn't have a Quirk, and he's not strong, he gets scared easily, and is a bit of a crybaby, but . . . his love of heroes, his dreams and hopes of becoming one, his will to help those in need, despite the odds, Izu is amazing.
I quickly dried my long hair and put on my black sailor uniform. Tying the red tie, I frowned in distaste. I liked it to begin with, but it's childish.
I quickly grabbed my bag, put on my shoes, and left. I usually run into either Izu or Kacchan. We've lived in the same neighborhood for many years now. It's not unusual for me to run into them. Kacchan doesn't like going to school with me as much anymore.
He's gotten cold, mean, he's too caught up in himself, and he thinks everyone else is beneath him.
Even so, he's still my friend. Kind of. It's kind of complicated I suppose. "Ah! Kiri-Nee!" I turned to the familiar voice to see Izu running my way. A smile made its way onto my face and I waited for him to catch up.
He finally did and we began walking. "Good morning Izu. Man, I want to go back to bed." I said, yawning loudly and un-lady like. Izu sweat dropped. "Kiri-Nee . . ." Hm?
I glanced at him but continued walking. Izu quickly pulled out his phone and searched the news. His eyes immediately brightened. He looked at me, a big grin plastered on his face, his dark green eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Kiri-Nee! There's a villain! This means-alright!" He ran in a different direction. I let out a sigh and shook my head before chasing after him.
Such a fanboy. I ran behind him as he led me to a crowd. Up ahead, a giant villain roared, going on a rampage. "It's a huge villain!" Izu shouted excitedly. There were already pedestrians filming the villain on their phone. I wonder which heroes are on the case.
I was taller then Izu, but I still couldn't quite see that well. Izu pushed through the crowd heading to the front. Letting out a sigh, I followed. It is always interesting to watch a fight, but what's the big deal about heroes?
I never quite saw the amazement in them like Izu or Kacchan. I guess the only thing I really like about them is their strength. As soon as we made it to the front, Izu looked forward excitedly.
"Who's fighting?" Izu asked, looking at the scene. I followed his gaze and sweat dropped. It's the idiot trio.
We were behind a water line courtesy of Backdraft. Death Arms is holding up part of a broken tower the villain knocked over. Suddenly a hero went overhead, and the girls around us squealed. "Kamui Woods!" They shouted excitedly.
I sighed, watching the hero use his Quirk to move around in the sky. "The young and talented rising star!" Izu shouted happily. I rolled my eyes.
An older man next to us looked at Izu, amusement clear in his eyes. He crossed his arms, a slight mischief smile on his face.
"You were the one asking, but you gave a perfect commentary, kid. You're a fanboy, aren't you?!" He asked Izu.
I sweat dropped as Izu blushed and tried to explain himself. Izu is a fanboy. The biggest one out there if you ask me. I focused on the fight. Kamui is pretty amazing. The way he moves, his thinking process. He fights amazingly.
I don't question why he's a big hit with girls. He held his arm out, and branches moved out. Ah, it's about to end. Izu pointed. "Oh here it comes!" He shouted excitedly.
I nodded in agreement. Izu always raves about heroes, so I'm well aware of their attacks and movements. "Show us something flashy Tree Man!" The man next to Izu shouted. Kamui got ready for his attack.
Izu clenched his fist. "Pre-emptive Binding, Lacquered Chain Prison!" Izu shouted along with the hero. However we watched as a giant blonde, female hero kicked the villain. "Canyon Canon!" She shouted.
Hm. I tilted my head to the side. She's pretty. And her outfit leaves nothing for the imagination. A bunch of men moved around and started taking pictures of her. Tch. Stupid perverts.
Still, I haven't seen this hero before. Izu hasn't talked about her either. Gigantification. "Today is the day of my debut. My name is Mt. Lady. A pleasure to make you acquaintance." She said, winking at the crowd.
I sweat dropped as they men took more pictures of her. Izu immediately pulled out his data journal and began writing about the new hero.
We live in a world where heroes are a reality. Eighty percent of the population has a power, we call them Quirks. The occupation of heroes is often considered the most wanted. And they are paid by the government based on their course of actions.
With the increase in people with powers, the increase in crime. But we have heroes. It's a pretty nice balance. It's like life from a comic book. But this is no story. This is our reality. Heroes don't always fight with as pure intentions as those in comics.
And unlike comics, Heroes don't always win.
I stretched. "Come on Izu. We should head out." I said, as he wrote in his book. He looked up and grinned. I turned and headed towards the school, Izu on my tail. Let's see. What period will Kacchan get angry in first? Ha. He won't make it past first.
~
"Nozomi-San!" I felt a light whack to my head. Groaning, I lifted my head out of the pillow I made of my bag. I winced a bit as the luminescent lights in the classroom harshly hit my eyes that had adjusted to the dark.
Sensei stood at the podium, moving his arm back to his side. "Please stay awake in class." He scolded. I gave him a blank look.
His temple throbbed but he sighed and held a pile of papers. "Since you're all third years, it's time for you to seriously about your future. I'll pass out handouts for your future plans now, but you're all pretty much planning to go into the hero course, right?" He said, tossing the papers to the air.
The kids around me used their Quirks to answer him happily. I rolled my eyes. Plan my future? I'm a third year in junior high. I've got time.
"Sensei! Don't lump us all in the same group. I'm not going to be stuck at the bottom with the rest of these rejects!" I sighed and glanced at Kacchan, who sat in his chair, feet propped on his desk.
This idiot. The other students shouted at him, but he merely insulted them by calling them extras, adding fuel to the fire. "Oh, if I remember correctly, you want to go to U.A. High, right, Bakugo?"
I glanced at Izu, who had his head down, staring at his desk. He wants to go to U.A. as well. As soon as Kacchan hears that, he's not going to be happy.
After all, it's a national school. It was in the top 0.2% this year. Very prestigious. Only the best of the best are accepted. They have very low acceptance rates.
Kacchan laughed. "That's exactly why you guys are just extras!" He jumped up and stood on his desk. "I aced the mock test! I'm the only one at this school who could possibly get into U.A. I'll defiantly surpass All Might and become the top hero! My name will be inscribed on the list of top earners!" Kacchan declared.
The teacher looked at his clipboard. "Oh yeah, Midoriya wanted to go to U.A. too right?" I sighed. This stupid teacher.
The whole class looked at him before bursting out into fits of laughter, mocking his ability. Annoyed, I moved my leg up and slammed the heel on my shoe onto my desk, making a loud noise as a large crack was created
Everyone froze as I sent them a cold glare. Smiling sadistically, I tilted my head. "Oh? What's so funny? Care to tell me?" I asked. They paled and a girl waved her hands.
"N-nothing's funny at all!" She said nervously. I huffed. "That's what I thought." I grumbled. Suddenly Kacchan lunged at Izu. I quickly got up. Rushing over, Kacchan thrust his hand forward. I used my school bag to block the explosion.
I tossed the burnt bag onto the floor and crossed my arms, standing between Kacchan and Izu. Kacchan narrowed his eyes on me. "Move Kiri! I need to show Deku how useless a Quirkless idiot like him can never even think about standing in the same ring as me! Quirkless people like you two should stay out of my way!"
I closed my eyes and smiled. "Say that when you can actually beat me." I moved my head to the side, avoiding his explosion before bringing my knee up and slamming it into his stomach.
He swung at me. I used a random kids bag and blocked it, but I was flown back. Smirking, I clenched my fists.
We lunged at each other, going into a full out brawl. "Kya! Bakugo and Nozomi are at it again!" A girl screamed as the kids in the class quickly ran out of the room.
Before we could destroy the classroom again, the teacher stopped us and sent us out in the hall.
We stood there, vaguely hearing the teachers lecture. "Tch. This is all your fault Kiri." Kacchan hissed. I snorted and crossed my arms before looking over at him. "If it's anyone's fault, which it is, it's yours! Always bullying Izu."
He glared at me and I returned it. This is how it usually is. Whenever he begins to pick on him, we usually end up fighting and destroying the room. Yesterday we accidentally blew up the cafeteria.
Actually that was all Kacchan. Just because his Quirk is flashy, cool, and useful, he thinks he owns the damn place.
"Tch. Deku won't make it into U.A. I'll be the first one from this school." He laughed at that. I rolled my eyes. "It's just a school. What's so great about it?" I asked. Kacchan shot me a glare. But in his anger filled eyes, I saw another emotion.
Concern.
Most of my life, for as long as I've known the two, I have felt nothing of heroes or villains. I make no motion to care for myself and the future.
It's always worried Kacchan, even if he wants to pretend he hates me. I try my best to show more interest around Izu, because unlike Kacchan, it would plague him if I didn't.
"I'll show you when I graduate. I'll become the best hero out there." Kacchan declared from next to me. I glanced at him. A small smile played on my lips. "I look forward to it." I stated, facing forward.
~
As soon as class ended, I was called to the principles office. He sighed, shaking his head. "You're always causing trouble. You fight, skip classes, when you do show up for classes you sleep through them."
I just gave him a blank look. The old man sighed, rubbing the back of his head. "You're a smart girl, but given your status, you need to take school more seriously. Do you understand what you did was wrong?" He asked.
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes and nodded. He sighed again. "Okay. Go on home." I immediately turned and headed back to the classroom.
As I walked down the hall I passed Kacchan and his little minions. I ignored the angry look in his eyes and walked into the classroom to see Izu there, trembling slightly, eyes glued to the ground.
"Izu?" I asked, worry creeping up in my chest. He jumped in shock at my appearance. He forced a smile and grabbed his bag and my burnt one. "We should get going." He said.
I stared at him as he approached me. "Was it Kacchan?" I turned, planning on going after him, but Izu grabbed my arm. "It's okay! Please don't go and fight. Let's just go home, okay?"
I stared at my childhood friend a little longer. But I could never go against those frightened, yet concerning eyes.
"Okay, okay. Let's go." He nodded and followed me. When we were outside, we passed the fountain and I noticed something in it. I reached in and grabbed it. Hero Analysis for the Future. Vol. 13. This is Izu's.
"Ah!" He quickly reached for it. I pulled it away and inspected it. It's burnt a bit. Immediately anger coursed through me. "Katsuki." I hissed.
Izu looked down sadly. Sighing, I handed him the notebook. He looked up at me curiously. I smiled at him warmly. "It isn't ruined at all. You can still read it and write in it." I told him.
A small smile made its way onto his lips and he nodded happily. With that said and done, we headed to his house.
We talked a bit, mostly about the new hero, Mt.Lady. "All I'm saying is that she'll fit in well with that idiot trio." Izu laughed nervously.
Really, they are a bit of idiots. We were passing a tunnel underneath a road. When we were almost out, we heard it.
We turned around to see this green sludge like man pop up. "A villain!" Izu shouted. He looked at the villain in horror. "Uh-oh. Izu run!" I shouted, pushing him towards the exit. But the green sludge lunged at us.
I turned and swiftly did a 180 about to kick him down. But he dissipated and went around me. I turned to see him have a hold of Izu. He was trying to enter through his mouth. Izu will drown.
I ran at them. "Back off!" I screamed, throwing punches. But I ended up getting stuck a bit. Ah shit. "Don't worry. I'm just going to take over his body. It'll only hurt for about 45 seconds.
I clenched my jaw. "Why you . . . Let Izu go!" Instead of attacking it, I hit Izu, knocking him out of its hold, but he looked like he was about to black out. "Stupid girl!" The blob hissed.
Before he could do anything, a loud clash sounded behind us. Huh? We looked back to see . . . my eyes widened slightly. All Might?
"Don't worry young man, young woman. I am here." Obviously. Idiot. But up close . . . All Might is impressive. He's tall, his muscles are easily defined. His blonde hair is up a bit like two ears, and his smile that never leaves his face sparkled a bit.
The villain swung an arm out at him. But All Might ducked and lunged at him. When he tried to hit him again, he stopped and pulled his fist back. "Texas Smash!"
A strong with hit the villain full force and dissipated him, Izu and I flew back a bit and landed roughly on the ground. No way. With one hit, the force of the punch, the wind that picked up . . . he beat him with one hit. Amazing.
"All . . . Migh-" Izu blacked out. "Izu!" I shouted, going to his aid. He seems fine, just knocked out. Sighing in relief, I turned to see All Might gather the goop of the villain in a pop bottle.
He then turned to us. I jumped a bit. He headed our way but stopped upon spotting Izu's notebook on the ground. He picked it up and looked through it a bit before turning to us.
This is the first time I've seen him in person. He stood in front of me and bent down and tossed Izu over his shoulder. "Let's get out of the tunnel young lady."
I nodded, not entirely sure what to say. I picked up Izu's bag and followed the hero out. He set Izu down and kneeled next to him and tried shaking him awake, but it wasn't working. So he began to slap his cheeks lightly. When that didn't work he did it continuously. "Hey. Hey." He called in English.
"Ah! What are you doing to Izu?!" I shouted, smacking the back of his head roughly. But Izu's eyes opened. "Izu!" I shoved All Might and he let out a small yell as he landed away. I crouched down next to him.
"Are you okay?" I asked worriedly. "Kiri-Nee?" He asked groggily. I smiled, happy to see he was okay. "Oh good! I'm glad you're okay." All Might was crouched beside me. As soon as Izu saw him his eyes nearly popped out of his head and his jaw dropped.
He crawled back a bit, screaming in shock. We stood and I stepped away from the hero, eyeing him skeptically. He held his hand up.
"Sorry 'bought getting you two caught up in my villain fighting. I don't usually make mistakes like this. But I was in high spirits on my day off in a new place." He began laughing his signature laugh.
I sweat dropped. Is this guy for real?
Izu stared at him in awe and shock. "But you were a big help. Thanks! I captured him safely!" He held the bottle up in victory. My eye twitched.
This is the number one hero? Izu stood and grabbed the notebook from me and opened it up, to see . . . an autograph?! When'd he do that?
Izu then bowed rapidly giving his thanks to his role model. "T-Thank you! It'll be an heirloom! A family treasure!" He shouted. I sighed, slapping my hand to my face. This is embarrassing.
All Might gave him thumbs up. "Okay! Well I need to take this guy to the police. See you again on the other side of the screen!" He began squatting a bit to give his legs some exercise.
Izu looked disappointed. "Wait, already?" He asked. All Might stood up and stretched some more. "Pros are constantly fighting enemies and time." He explained.
Izu stepped forward a bit. "Well then, I'm counting on your continued support!" He began to jump. Izu launched himself and wrapped his arm around his leg. "EH?!" I quickly grabbed Izu's leg and we were in the sky in no time.
The wind hit hard as we soared. Izu you idiot!
Izu let out strangled yell as the wind made his face move weirdly. "Wait. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!" All Might looked down at us.
He tried to pry Izu off. "Let go of me! Your fanaticism is too much!" He shouted. He moved Izu a bit, making me lose grip. "What?!" I screamed, getting a better grip. "You stupid hero! If we let go we'll die!" I shouted.
"That's true." He said, stopping his actions of prying us off. "I-I have a lot of things I want to ask you directly!" Izu said. His lips were flopping a bit because of the wind so it sounded weird.
"Okay, okay! I get it, so close your eyes and mouth." He told Izu. He kicked his leg up a bit, flinging me up. He caught me with his arm and tossed me over his shoulder and grabbed the back of Izu's shirt so he wouldn't fall.
Well this is interesting. I looked down at the town. It looks so much different at this height. And speed. And the way the wind felt. It's nice. I wouldn't mind flying.
I heard All Might coughing before swearing in English. "Shit." I couldn't see his face from where I was. I wonder if he's sick.
We landed on a building top and All Might set us down. I was perfectly fine. I enjoyed that little moment. However . . . I glanced at Izu who was trembling and looked exhausted. "That was unpleasant." I sighed, throwing my hands behind my head. "Why'd you grab him?" I asked.
Before he could answer, All Might walked over to the railing of the building. "Good grief. If you talk to the people downstairs, I'm sure they'll let you two down. I seriously am outta time, so I really must go."
I glanced at him. Out of time? Surely spending five minutes answering Izu's questions is more then enough. There's no harm in it.
Izu stepped up. "Wait! Um-" All Might held his hand up, interrupting him. "No! I will not wait!" Why this little! I clenched my fists. "But-" Izu stopped a moment. I glanced back at him to see a sad look on his face.
Izu? He clenched his fists, and his watery eyes held determination. "Even if I don't have a Quirk, can I become a hero?" My eyes widened. He asked it.
Izuku, do you really want to become a hero that much?
All Might stopped, but his back was still facing us. "Can even someone without a Quirk be like you?!" He asked, closing his eyes shut. All Might turned a bit to us. But I kept my eyes on Izuku. I suppose this is the moment that decides his fate.
