Chapter 1
"Scarlet wake up!"
I could literally hear my aunt shouting at the top of her lungs from downstairs.
Taking a quick peek at my alarm clock, I saw it was just past 7am. The noise is very unnecessary. It's not like anyone is ever in a hurry to go to school. I mumbled to myself as I quickly shut out all the noise around me, closed my eyes and tried to continue from where I stopped.
I heard her stomping up the stairs to get me out of bed. I grunted, just wishing I could disappear.
Why can't she just let me sleep in a wee bit. I'll still go to school afterall. Maybe if I hide and pretend to be in a deep sleep, she'll leave me alone for a few more minutes.
I pulled the blanket over my body and pretended to sleep. Hearing my door handle turn, I made a mental note to get a lock on my door since the previous one was broken.
"Rise and shine Sleeping Beauty!!" She said in a chirpy voice that was starting to get on my nerves. People shouldn't wake up to such sounds.
Still under the warmth of my blanket with only my eyes peeking out, I watched my aunt look past me on my bed without saying anything.
She then walked to the window that led to the balcony of my room which I made sure to lock every night. I was starting to get worried because of her strange behaviour.
She unlocked it, opened the window then shut it and locked it back. She did a spin which, might I add, was very dramatic as she walked to my closet. Looking at my clothes and shoes, she took another glance at my bed, walked out of my room and closed the door.
Yes auntie, because that isn't awkward at all. Taking a look at the clock, I groaned.
Scrambling to get out of bed, I hurriedly took a shower because all that weirdness took a lot of time, got dressed faster than I could sneeze and lazily dragged myself downstairs to eat breakfast.
As I got to the bottom of the stairs, my eyes landed on the weirdest thing in the room.
I stood there in shock. I was dumbfounded, flabbergasted... You know what I mean. I just kept staring hoping I was seeing wrong. I even rubbed my eyes with the back of my hand like how I see in movies because right before my very eyes was an empty table.
No food on it.
Right then, I could hear my tummy growl but to make food now would take up a lot of time and it was already getting late.
I stomped out of the house as I went to board the bus to school. Hungrily, I took a seat at the middle. I'm really just a neutral person and I overthink when I sit too close to the front or the back.
Maybe she is punishing me for waking up late. Giving me the silent treatment. But not giving me food is too cruel. I'm still a growing girl.
The bus came to a halt suspending my train of thoughts. I hopped off and started walking to the reception to get my schedule. I could see people hurrying to their classes but I wasn't even bothered.
If I perish, I perish.
Searching my bag for my purse, I didn't realize I had come face to face with -you know it- a total stranger. He is probably cute if I look at him upside down.
"Need some help with that?" he asked shyly. The foul breath hit me like a train. Just great. "Do I look like I need help?" I scowled back at him.
He looked shocked. Like he actually expected me to be polite. Well, jokes on him. I was already in a bad mood. "No need to be grumpy. Just thought I could offer my assistance to a pretty lady like yourself" he said wiggling his eyebrows. "No thank you. I'm fine." I snapped at him.
I really hate people raising their brows at me. Luckily for him, I don't carry a shaving stick around, if not...
No negative thoughts.
I tried to walk past him as I searched for my purse. "You're walking out on me? You aren't even that pretty" he bumped my shoulder as he pushed past me.
Now I was very very very mad. I used to take anger management classes and I was pretty good at ignoring the rubbish people spew out of their mouths but that last statement pissed me off big time.
As I turned to give him a piece of my mind, he stood there with an ugly smirk. "So now you're throwing yourself at me." he said loudly as the few people passing by looked at me with disgust.
Have you ever been so angry your brain can't even process words? I was definitely at that point now.
I walked towards him...slowly. As he looked down at me, I gave him a very clean uppercut.
With the satisfying crack, I turned around and sashayed. When I had put a good distance between us, I looked back at him. "You definitely aren't pretty now."
I was still pissed but at least, I had let out some steam. Double checking, I discovered I had left my purse at home. That leaves me with no keys, no cash, no card and no phone. I was definitely late now and I couldn't buy food . Just splendid.
A hungry girl is really an angry girl.
