CHAPTER FOURTEEN

IT HAD BEEN a week since Kendra had seen Peter, she was whisked off by SHIELD for an emergency mission in Russia when one of their agents went rouge. Because of course, the sixteen year old girl with a sword is going to do any help. But she was able to complete the mission successfully, storming a KGB base and freed about 20 hostages. Kendra was finally able to get her superhero name Athena out there when she freed the Americans trapped inside. It was exhilarating if Kendra was going to be honest. She didn't realize how much she enjoyed missions until she landed that Sunday.

Kendra looked down at her phone as it blew up with messages and calls. Kendra smiled as she answered them, explaining that the avengers took a family vacation and she had no service. When she walked into the base, she looked up to see a few scientists and their interns milling about the place, going from one lab to the next down the hall. Kendra thought of Peter and how he calls his vigilante work an "internship" and she chuckled as she walked up the stairs to her room.

Kendra! Zeus greeted and cawed, making Kendra laugh as she walked over, scratching under his feathers and massaged his head.

"Hey man," She smiled, jumping onto her bed and let out a long, deep sigh, "a soft bed."

Well you can't nap yet, I need to start you on the second half of your powers, Zeus spoke and Kendra sat up, shocked.

"What, there's more?" Kendra asked, getting out of bed and stepped over to his stand.

Zeus has granted you the gift of controlling the thunder and lighting like he does, Zeus the owl explained and Kendra gasped.

"That's so cool!" She responded excitedly and held her hand out for him to bite.

Kendra watched as Zeus spread his wings and noticed a little bolt of electricity run through his wings and travel to his beak as he chomped down on her hand. The force of the electricity threw her back, letting her slam into the wall of her room next to her wardrobe. Her ears were ringing as she cried out in pain, leaning against the wall as her head throbbed.

Tony slammed into her room and looked over to see her slowly trying to get up.

"What the hell happened?" Tony asked as he assisted her. Kendra explained what happened as she slowly made it to her bed, smiling to Zeus.

"Sorry for scaring you," Kendra looked up to Tony and widened her eyes when he hugged her.

"I almost pissed myself," Tony spoke as she hugged back.

"It won't happen again, I promise, that's the last of it," Kendra assured him, burying her face in Tony's shoulder, squeezing him lightly. The two pulled away as Tony sat on her bed.

"Oh, uh, Peter blew up Happys phone because you've been gone for a week, did you tell everyone that it was an avengers vacation?" Tony asked and Kendra nodded and chuckled.

"Did he really do that?" Kendra asked.

"It was apparently 'so annoying, that he's about to get blocked by all Stark servers', or whatever," Tony spoke and Kendra laughed, blushing furiously.

"That's funny," Kendra spoke and watched as Tony looks around her room. The expression on his face was unreadable, but at the same time, they almost always were.

"Do you mind if I call you dad more often around the base?" Kendra asked, "I've caught myself before calling you Tony in public, but now that you have my birth certificates in your name-"

"You didn't have to ask," Tony spoke, cutting off Kendra but she only smiled, "You are my kid now, don't worry about it."

Kendra began to tear up fast, hugging him tightly. She didn't have an active father figure in her life before dropping in. It was always her and her mother. She wondered if that's why she suddenly got so attached to Steve Rogers and Tony Stark when she watched the Avengers.

"Thank you," Kendra's voice quietly croaked. She could feel Tony massage the back of her head through her hair.

"I take it we're in the same boat with crappy dads?" Tony asked and Kendra pulled away, chuckling softly as she wiped her eyes.

"We used to be, the dad I have right now? He's amazing," she responded, "he's saved the world so many times, he's my hero."

Tony patted her cheek and smiled.

"You're an awesome kid, you know that?" He asked and Kendra laughed, throwing her hair past her shoulder, shrugging.

"I mean, I guess," she joked, making him chuckle.

"I'm going to make so many dad jokes now," Tony spoke as he stood up, looking around once more, "love what you've done with the place."

"Thank you," Kendra smiled and watched as he headed for the door.

"Dinner is at seven," he spoke as he stood at the door, turning and facing her as he opened the door, "You have some soot on your face."

Kendra gasped and went to the mirror to check, frowning when she was perfectly fine.

"Dad!" She yelled out as he laughed, rushing out of her room. Kendra only smiled as the door shut and she went to her phone. A smile on her face as she checked her messages, Ned had sent quiet a few texts.

Kendra gasped when she realized what she sent and threw her phone on the bed and sat at her desk. Watching it anxiously. It lit up and she cautiously approached it, this time, it was a text from Peter.

Kendra smiled brightly as she looked up at Zeus, pouting her lip slightly.

"He copies the homework for me," Kendra whined as she looked down at her phone. Getting ready to send him another text. She was interrupted by a knock on the door and she set her phone down, walking over and opened it to reveal Steve.

"I heard some loud noises coming from here, everything okay?" Steve asked, looking around behind her.

"Yeah, uh, I was getting the rest of my powers from Zeus, Thank you for checking up on me, that's sweet," Kendra explained and Steve nodded.

"How was the mission?" Steve asked, he never let go of his concerned expression, it was even more pressing with his beard that she convinced him to keep.

"It went great, there were more hostages in there than I realized but I got everyone out, SHIELD has all the intel they need," Kendra smiled and Steve nodded.

"If you ever need to talk about anything you see out there, you can come to me," Steve patted her shoulder and walked off, making Kendra smile wide.

"Thanks, Grandpa!" She chirped and he looked back, a smile on his face.

"You know what?" He asked and she quickly shut her door, laughing. She went back to her bed grabbing her phone as a text from Ned popped up on her screen.

Kendra practically squealed as she shot up, plugging her phone in as it was soon to be 7 o'clock and she didn't want Tony kicking her door down. Kendra couldn't keep the smile off her face as she ate at the table and as she went back to her room, getting ready for the school day the next day.
