CHAPTER THIRTEEN
feelings

KENDRA SAT DOWN in front of Sam, grateful that he would take the time to talk to her.

"Thank you again, it just seemed like you were a great therapist at the VA," Kendra explained herself and Sam smiled, leaning back in his own chair.

"It's fine, I've been meaning to get to know you," Sam spoke and Kendra chuckled.

"It's just, I feel like I'm juggling so many secrets that I'm scared that I'm going to slip up and literally destroy this universe," Kendra sighed, rubbing her temples.

"Well, lets start with the ones you can tell me about," Sam spoke and Kendra smiled.

"Peter Parker being Spider-Man," Kendra laid back in her seat, "he doesn't know that I know, I can't mention anything about it at school, and I almost outted him on the street yesterday-"

Kendra gasped as she shot up. Startling Sam as she looked into the mirror close by and groaned.

"I'm supposed to meet Spider-Man soon," She spoke and looked to Sam.

"Oh my god I'm so sorry," Kendra spoke and he waved her off.

"Go!" He waved her off, leaving Kendra to run to her room and get ready.

"God I wish I had superspeed!" Kendra yelled as she hopped around her room, trying to pull her jeans on.

Kendra threw on her favorite tee shirt as she ran to the bathroom doing the best she could to look better. Brushing her hair, her teeth, doing some light makeup, following Jeremy Renners advice. She snorted, thinking about Clint's lack of a skincare routine here. Kendra eventually grabbed her phone from the charger and ran to her favorite jacket that hung on the wall. It used to be Wanda's but she said it didn't fit her and wasn't even her color.

Kendra looked to Zeus who was asleep and smiled. She opened up a portal in her room, walking through and around, smiling at the sanctum. Kendra closed the portal and waved to Stephen as she ran out, sprinting to make it to the cafe on time. It was when she rounded the corner and found herself outside the cafe that she looked up to see Tom the barista staring at her.

She only gave a smile smile as she turned around, leaning against the brick wall next to the window, looking up to see if Peter would swing in for an entrance. Kendra decided to put her headphones in as she tried to cool down from her run, her heart already beating it if her chest in anticipation to see Peter.

"Excuse me ma'am, but there's no loitering," a voice spoke up and she turned to see the familiar mask, her smile breaking wide.

"Oh it's okay, not like anyone around here can do anything," she winked and Peter held a hand over his chest as he looked around.

"I think I'm just gonna have to take you in," He spoke and Kendra laughed, wrapping her arms around him and nodding, hoping that he got the hint that she was okay with being pulled around by nothing but a teenage boy and a string of fake web.

"How does that saying go again?" Kendra asked as they flew doing the best she could to block the wind into her face, "You have the right to remain silent."

Peter laughed as he dropped them on the roof a building, allowing her to turn around and look at the view. Her jaw dropped at the buildings around them, the expression of wonder was all she could show. New York truly amazed her, she looked off to see the Avengers building, her heart skipped a beat.

"It would've been so cool to live up there!" Kendra smiled, "looking out at the city like this."

"You seem to enjoy the city a lot more than most," Peter spoke as he stood next to her and she chuckled.

"Maybe it's cause I'm new," Kendra responded as she looked to him, cracking a playful smile.

"Want to go the best sandwich shop in Queens?" Peter asked and Kendra nodded, holding up a finger, turning around.

"I just want to see this view once more though," Kendra spoke softly as she looked at the Avengers building, the sun shining off the glass and the trademarked A that graced the side.

"I'm ready," Kendra smiled and looked to Peter, wrapping the jacket around her tighter. The cold wind seemed to go straight through her clothes.

"Hop on my back," he spoke and she walked over, jumped on and held onto him tightly.

"How are you going to-" Kendra was cut off by Peter as he jumped, latching onto a building and swinging, making her voice crack and she gasped.

"Dude!" She laughed, watching the city and smiled.

Peter turned his head to look at her as she held tight, resting her chin on his shoulder.

"You should watch where you're going, lover-boy, you have precious cargo," Kendra joked. She heard Peter laugh as they swung.

They ended up in a more abandoned part of town, vacant buildings everywhere and the traffic went down to 0. Peter once again had looked back to her, she should see that he was smiled by the way his mask lifted. She could only smile back.

Then they started to fall. Kendra could only yell out when they tumbled on the gravel of the closest roof.  The air was knocked out of her lungs and Peter was sprawled out on top of her, groaning as well. Peter gasped and got up, turning around and kneeling next to her as she wheezed.

"I'm so sorry, oh my god are you okay?" Peter asked as Kendra sat up, their faces inches apart and she nodded, leaning forward and rested her head on his shoulder.

"This is why we pay attention to where we're swinging," She began to laugh and Peter chuckled, throwing an arm around her as she quickly got back to breathing normally. She looked over at him and felt his head through the mask, making sure he didn't hit his head.

"What are you doing?" He asked and Kendra rolled her eyes.

"Making sure my ride doesn't have a concussion, are you dizzy right now?" Kendra asked as he watched her.

"No?" He responded, Kendra smirked, holding up three fingers.

"Three," he spoke and she alternated the numbers. He got them all right.

"Good," Kendra spoke and stood up, holding a hand out to pull him up. He accepted and soon they were back to flying around the city. Kendra's hair flying around in her face as they landed back at the cafe, this time, the sun started to set. She was still hanging onto him, her hair over his face and shoulders.

Kendra laughed as she slowly got down.

"That was fun," Kendra smiled, he was holding three of her fingers and looked over to see a car from the base speed in and screech to a halt in the park way of the street. Kendra's eyes widened as the window rolled down and Happys face appeared.

"Stark!" He yelled, making Kendra widen her eyes as she glanced to Peter.

Play dumb! She thought.

"What's a Stark?" She asked, cringing as the words processed in her brain.

Not that dumb! Kendra beat herself up and she looked to Peter as she headed for the car. She blew him a kiss and walked over to the passenger seat of the car.

"What did I tell you!" Happy spoke, pulling into the road. Kendra turned into her seat to see Peter standing on the sidewalk, watching her go off into the distance.

"He was just showing me the city!" Kendra spoke as she turned around, watching where he went.

"After I said you need to focus!" Happy spoke and Kendra shook her head.

"Actually, we agreed to those plans before I even called you," Kendra spoke as he rolled his eyes and turned a corner. He let out a heavy sigh and Kendra rolled her eyes, looking out the window as Happy turned another corner.

"Kendra, be honest, do you have a crush on Peter Parker?" Happy asked and Kendra threw her head back, staring at the roof of the car.

"I- I don't know, okay?" Kendra snapped and fell her face in her hands. She knows that she shouldn't, that she needs to focus on saving the universe. To help Zeus finally see his family again. But every time she saw Peter her heart went a mile a minute and being with him made the happiest in a long time. Kendra groaned a long and at such a high pitch, Happy winced. She leaned her head against the window and looked out.

She really wasn't sure what she could do anymore, especially when it had everyone's life on the line.
