IT HAD BEEN weeks since she had finally met Rocket and Groot. It had been weeks since Kendra came out to the world as an avenger. And it had been weeks since she had gotten any proper sleep. She craved rest terribly and she wished that Mantis was around to just knock her out. But she knew that wouldn't happen.
Thor had gone off with the Guardians to fulfill his destiny with being an adventurer. Clint retired to his farmhouse to be with Laura and the kids. Natasha ran what Peggy Carter would be proud to call SHIELD. Bruce, well, he was more of a trophy husband to her. And Steve was finally able to move back into Brooklyn, among Kendra happier than ever.
Sam and Bucky moved in together, confirming Kendra's suspicions that they didn't actually hate each other. And Wanda and Vision finally got their happy ending. It all warmed Kendra's heart, knowing that although they may not all be there, she knows if any trouble ever dared to rise up again, she knows exactly where to find her powerful, bad ass family that all decided to stay in New York. For the most part.
Kendra, Tony, and Pepper were moving into a cabin nearby the base. And it was beautiful. She fell in love with the cabin and the lake-side view that it came with. And she was enamored with the news that Pepper was expecting.
And now, Kendra was out on the dock over the lake, wrapped up in her comforter as she watched the small waves slap the posts of the dock. Gerald, Tony's alpaca was grunting off in the distance, Tony had gotten him on impulse and although Pepper wasn't thrilled at all with the idea, Kendra fell in love with the animal.
"Hey," she heard from behind her, making her jump and turn around to see Tony, a look of concern on his face, "still can't sleep?"
"I think I'd have to be drug induced to get that luxury," Kendra lightly joked as Tony sat down next to her on the bench, watching the pink and orange of the sunrise that reflected on the waves, illuminating everything.
"Well, school is starting today, and although I wish you would just let me homeschool you, you should probably get ready before your little," Tony frowned even more at what he was about to say, "boyfriend gets here, it is a long drive from here to Midtown."
"Yeah," Kendra spoke, breathless, she looked over at Tony, a small smile on her face. She pulled him in for a hug, startling the man as he was quick to hug her back, "I'm so glad this isn't a timeline where you're dead." It was a mumble into his shoulder but he heard it. It was quiet, it was peaceful.
"I'm so glad you saved everyone's life," Tony mumbled into her hair. He gently stroked her back, bringing a smile to Kendra's face.
"You're great," Kendra smiled as she stood up, pressing a soft kiss to Tony's temple as she hiked up her comforter and walked back up to the cabin. She made her bed, a frown jumping back to her face.
Just staring at the bed made her groggy. She wished she could sleep now but it wasn't an option anymore. She turned to her wall that was covered in photos, mainly taken by Peter of her and the Avengers, her and Peter on one of their more romantic dates. She stopped at one of her favorites.
Her last day with Zeus. It happened to be a few hours after everything was resolved over shawarma where everyone but the owners in the restaurant were alarmed and confused. It was great, up until she came home with Peter.
Zeus staring at her with sad eyes. Peter knew what was due to happen today.
It was wonderful knowing you, he said to her, you were like a kid to me, annoying as you were.
Kendra laughed through the tears, pressing a kiss to his feathered head. She wiped her eyes as she stepped back, watching him glide down to the ground, looking up, she watched as golden sparkles surrounded him. And she watched as the owl turned into a man in a fancy, old Grecian robe. Her jaw dropped, looking to Peter, he held the same expression.
"Zeus?" She asked, confused. He only laughed, holding out his arms. Kendra immediately accepted, hearing the shutter of Peters camera. She smiled as she gave the towering man one last squeeze before she pulled away, walking to her desk, she picked up the picture frame, handing it to him.
"Don't forget about me when you're drinking margaritas on the beach," She joker, making him laugh.
"You've made the gods proud, Kendra Lane," Zeus spoke, a portal opening in her wall. He went to go for it.
"Hey!" She called out, catching his attention once more.
"It's Kendra Stark, and they should be proud of you," Kendra smiled, Zeus only laughed as he walked through the portal. She watched it close behind him. And that's when the water works started. Peter was there for her through it all.
And the next morning, she awoke to Zeus's badge hanging on his bird stand, tied to the the badge, was a feather from his wings.
Kendra quickly snapped out of the memory, changing into her school clothes and did her makeup as she brushed her teeth and hair. She decided to wear she same outfit as she did on the first day of school.
"Kendra!" Pepper called out, "You have to go!"
Kendra snatched her bag up, kissing Peppers cheek as she passed the woman on her way to the front door. She ran out, smiling at the sight of Peter leaning up against his car, a pastry bag in one hand and a coffee cup in the other. Kendra smiled at his button up shirt and jeans, she whistled as she made it obvious that she was checking him out. She couldn't believe that this was her life. At least until Peter opened his mouth.
"Hey, gorgeous!" He called out as she took her time to get to him, "come here often?"
Kendra couldn't help but laugh at the boys corny joke. She closed any distance between them, hugging him tightly as she could, smiling as he had done the same. She inhaled deeply when she pressed her head against his chest, smiling at his detergent and the hint of his cologne that Tony had gotten him for Christmas. It was her new favorite scent.
Peter had set the coffee down on the roof of his car, using his newly freed fingers to lift up her chin. She smiled as she leaned back to get a better view of him. And although they've done it millions of times since that day in the corner of the library, her heart went racing as the butterfly's in her stomach turned into bats.
Peter quickly pressed his lips onto hers. Kendra's hands going to his cheeks to hold him in place, getting on her toes as she did everything she could to be as close to him as possible. Kissing Peter always brought Kendra a sense of safety. She knew that kissing Peter right infront of the cabin was a risky move but she couldn't get enough of the boy infront of her.
"You're scaring Gerald!" Tony called out, making Kendra jump back and laugh, looking to Tony who watched out from the porch, "Hi, Parker!"
"Hi Mister Stark!" Peter answered with the same volume which made it easy to hear the crack in his voice. He handed Kendra the coffee he got her. She noticed his cheeks burning up. She giggled and patted his cheek.
"Let's go, Parker Peter, or we're going to be late," She smiled, her heart fluttering at his reaction to the nickname.
"Yeah," he mumbled with a goofy smile and the two quickly piled into the car where Kendra ate, teasing Peter for his driving. All the while, their hands laced together as Kendra's music softly played through the speaker.
"I can tell you haven't slept," Peter finally spoke up, making Kendra twitch a frown. She looked over to see the most breathtaking view, her beautiful boyfriend, staring intensely at the road as the sunrise shown through, highlighting his hair into the most beautiful shades. And his brown eyes that lit up into a golden caramel that Kendra could get lost in for days.
"Yeah, that obvious?" She asked and Peter gave her a sympathetic look, squeezing her hand.
"Only to your boyfriend who can read you like a book, and maybe your dad," He smiled, trying to make the subject less heavy, "We'll get through this okay? Soon, it'll be something you won't remember until your in your sixties and see a purple tampon."
Kendra laughed, bringing their joined hands up and kissed his knuckles. He looked to her lovingly once more before putting his eyes back on the road.
"I love you," Kendra softly spoke, knowing he would hear. She watched his face light up and he brought her own knuckles to his lips.
"And I love you."
