Good Sleep × Ten
I lay uncomfortably on the ground, staring deeply into the crackling fire. Molly is asleep, so I have no one to talk too. Ash, he's sound asleep aswell. All I want right now is to be home and have Aphmau in my arms, just me and her...alone. The crackling of the fire shoots small sparks from its original flames, fading out when it hits the cold stone.
"Ugh," I groan quietly, "this stone floor is just...ugh, I just hate this..."
I get up, my bones and joints crackling with my movement. I stoke the fire with the last pile of dried grass, it igniting up into larger, warmer flames. I look outside, seeing a mixture of rain and snow, as I say sleet, splattering on the floor gently. Most of the snow has watered down, becoming a sloppy mess of mud and ice. I turn my head to where the carcass of the old deer sits, seeing the fur on the molding meat.
"That's the horred smell..." I gag, walking slowly to the rank meat.
I lift it up, the disgusting, rancid smell make my eyes water and my throat gag out a long barf sound. I put my mask on, blocking the smell from my nose. I inhale, smelling the scent of lavender from Aphmau. I sigh, walking over to my guitar next to the dancing flames. I sit down and take the knife from the top of the guitar, a glimpse of the note I wrote visioning in my eyes.
...Aphmau...
A loving and caring soul
A person who never gives up
A lovely and amazing girlfriend
...Aphmau...
I love her
And that is my choice
I look down, water streaming out of my eye. I put the guitar aside, taking my knife and placing it's sharpest point to the crevice in between the fur and gross meat. I slip it down the middle of the two, it roughly going down. I continue peeling the skin from the carcass for another three hours, waiting for my friends to awaken. I continue breaking apart the skin from the meat, eventually hearing the groaning from my wolf and my young friend.
"Morning, sleepy." I cut through the meat again, rancid juices like slime bleeding out of it.
"Morning, Aaron...Ash." Molly stretches in the corner of my eye, petting Ash.
I look to her, then she looks to me. Her eyes shrink and her nose scrunched up.
"I know, it's disgusting." I admit, dropping it down onto the floor and stabbing the knife into the middle of the carcass.
She nods, holding her nose and pulling her shirt up to her nose. Ash glares at the meat, crawling up to it. He licks it, him backing up with a whine.
"Don't eat it!" I laugh, his face scrunching up into disgust.
Molly laughs, her shirt falling down. We laugh to the wolf, him growling and his eyes staring deeply into mine. We stop, us both having tears from our laughter.
"Oh my," she sighs, covering her nose, "well, before I begin laughing again...what are you up too?"
"Making blankets." I sigh from my laughter, taking back my knife and carcass, beginning to work with the repulsive meat.
"Oh," she nods, getting up and looking outside, "makes since. That floor is crap."
I chuckle from her wording, finishing the last cut. I spread it out, measured around nine feet. Enough for two.
"Ash, c'mere boy." Molly calls to Ash, whom is sleeping on the floor.
He gets up and trots to her side, looking up to her. She jumps onto his back, wrapping her arms around his neck in an embrace.
"I'm going to go for a small walk. Maybe find a rabbit or something. See you later, Aaron." Molly waves, her and Ash running out of the cave.
Y'know, she's much more productive than you.
What do you see me doing right now?
Talking to me and staring off into space.
Ugh, you are just...ugh, nevermind. Leave me be so I can be productive.
Fine then, fine then. But, don't you even try crawling back to me for more advice...
I roll my eyes and begin working on the blankets. After hours of working alone in the warm cave, I finish the blankets. I place the blankets, now as I look at them more they look like sleeping bags, on the ground near the fire. I hear the slushy mud outside being hit by footsteps, and I see Molly and Ash come in both covered in brown and clear slush. She jumps off Ash, her eyes widened, probably from what she did.
"You seem like you've had a blast." I smirk and walk up to her.
"Sure did," she comments sarcastically, "About an hour ago Ash just bucked me off of him. I fell straight into this snow, mud bath. Ugh, it was gross..."
"Any luck with food?" I glare at Ash, his eyes filled with guilt and his ears pointed to the floor.
"A rabbit. Pretty big one too," She pulls out a mud covered rabbit from her shirt, dead and covered in teeth marks, "whoa, did you make those sleeping bags?!"
"Sure did." I say with confidence, proud of my work.
"Finally something that isn't going to break my back!" She cheers, mud splattering from her body onto me.
Ash shakes, all the mud and wetness smearing onto my body. I shut my eyes as the mud hits, grunting as it hit. I open my eyes and slowly glare at them.
"Oops." She squeaks, backing up.
"You're so getting it!" I laugh, chasing her and Ash out of the cave.
We run around outside until dusk, exhaustion hinted from out looks. We make it back to the cave, the mud dried and easy to peel off. I peel off the mud from her clothes and mine, ready for bed. We both collapse into the new sleeping bags, the inside warm and soft from the fur.
"Night, Aaron." Molly yawns, immediately asleep.
"Night, Molly..." I close my eyes, blacking out into a deep sleep.
