Chapter 39
"Haha, the bottle is facing you Linnea, you have to kiss Alex!" Jessica screamed. Alex smirked at me to be funny and we kissed. Everyone was laughing with us at the end of our kiss.
This party was awesome. We played spin the bottle, and currently I am eating fondue, cheese, chocolate dipped strawberries, soda....and a lot more. Brianna and I danced to the music the DJ was busting. It was one of the best nights ever.
"BRIANNA?" I shouted through all the music and commotion going on," DO YOU THINK ALEX AND I ARE A GOOD COUPLE?"
"OF COURSE!" Brianna shouted back while dancing at the same time. I smiled and looked back at Alex who was wearing a nice tuxedo and talking with Joe, Brianna's boyfriend and one of Alex's close friends. He saw me starring at him and smiled dreamily at me. I waved at him and he waved back.
"Be right-" I started when the DJ cut me off be speaking through the the loud microphone.
"Alright everyone lets finish up the party with some slooooowww dancing." The DJ announced as he scanned the gym full of teenagers talking, drinking and doing completely random things.
Alex grabbed my hand and we scampered to the floor. I looked to my right and saw Becca and Ethan standing near each other. Becca saw me looking in her direction and she then shot me a quick smile. I winked back at her and she giggled slightly as she placed her hands on Joe's shoulders. I was extremely glad that we were friends again despite our past.
I managed to turn my attention to Alex who had seemed to be waiting for me to look at him. He placed his hands on my hips and we danced until we were forced to stop. My legs ached, but I could have cared less.
"I have two things for you. Here's one. . ." Alex spoke as he dug in his left pocket.
I eyed him carefully and watched him take out something that I couldn't make out in semidarkness of the gym.
He handed me a small black box and I opened it slowly. "Oh, Alex!" I awed. The necklace had a beautiful blue stone in the center and I put it on," thank you so much." I exclaimed giving him a big bear hug.
"Alright, one more thing . . ." He added as he dug into his right pocket and handed me a small letter, a piece of paper ripped from a notebook," I decided it would be best for you to read it to yourself."
I opened it carefully and slowly, enjoying every last nerve wracking moment of suspense of what he could have written.
I'm staying here for college!
I love you,
Alex D.
"No way . . .Alex! Oh my god!" I squealed and hugged him again this time even tighter than ever. Tears glistened in my eyes and I wiped the ones that trickled down my cheek away immediately.
Then I spotted Brianna talking to the DJ about playing a certain song before the end of the dance.
"I'll miss you, Bri." I shouted running to give her the biggest hug I've ever given to her before in my entire life, or pretty much the fourteen years that we have been best friends for," I love you so much in a friend way."
"I will too." Brianna muttered ad tears began to stream down her cheeks and she pulled away from the hug slightly and then pulling me back in for another one.
"Promise to keep in touch?" I asked eagerly as I looked into her hazel eyes as she looked into my blue ones.
"Promise." She replied finally letting go of the hug. She looked down at my hand, opened it and put something in it.
"Don't loose this, Linnea. Treasure it forever and ever and please, don't forget me, I love you too as a friend."
" I won't I promise, luv ya bestie." I replied wiping tears off my face. I turned to Alex and cried into his jet-black leather jacket.

As we hopped in his dad's corvette and drove home I felt a lot of emotions. sadness, worry, fear, hope, happiness, confusion and a whole lot more. My hand was still glued to the mysterious object that Brianna had given me. I didn't really want to open it, but finally, I built the courage to do it. There in my hand was the very first best friend necklace we ever had. I remember the exact day we made them together in first grade. I almost cried . . . take that back I did cry. I showed Alex and he patted my shoulder sympathetically.
"It's okay, Lins, it's okay." He repeated his hands running down my hair and neck and then back again.
Eventually, after a few more minutes, we reached my quiet house.
"Thanks for driving me home, I will text you later." I clarified as I shut the Corvette's yellow door.
"Bye, Lins . . . wait. . . " Alex stuttered as he grabbed my shoulder and turned me around to face him again.
"Yeah?" I questioned, pivoting around to face him as I looked him in his soulful brown eyes.
"I love you." He whispered softly into my ear as he ran his fingers through my thick brown hair..
"I love you too, Alex." I replied as he kissed my cheek and then smiled at me, making a warm sensation fill my heart.
Now I knew for sure that I was lost in it.
