Chapter 38

"Becca?" I called searching around for her.

I knew she was somewhere out in the park. I just saw them but then I spotted her on the park bench with Ethan, I smiled at them because they were an adorable couple and I felt bad for everything that I did to her. I was being such a jerk about everything.

"Linnea?" Becca questioned as she stood up immediately as she heard my voice echo through the quietness.

"Can-can we talk . . . alone?" I muttered starring at my feet and setting a loose bang behind my ear uncomfortably.

"Um, sure I guess." Becca shrugged looking back over at Ethan and then looking back at me.

We strolled over to the other side of the park, near the basketball hoops, and started talking.

"Becca, I am so, so sorry. I was being such a bully and I didn't even realize it." I admitted, holding back tears, "I was just jealous of you and Ethan being together, but I know now that I should be happy for you two, and I am, trust me. Please, forgive me Becca. I don't want to be enemies anymore. I mean, after all, we are going to the same high school. Also, we have been great friends since preschool. . . until now."

Becca examined me, searching for the right reply,"It's okay." She replied putting a hand on my shoulder and giving me a warm smile in return," I forgive you."

I looked up at her, happy tears filling my eyes as I was so thankful for Becca's apology.

"So you forgive me?" I muttered as I looked deeply into her hazel eyes, feeling hopeful.

"Yes, of course I forgive you." Becca agreed as she sat down next to me on the wooden beam and gave me a small hug.

As soon as I stopped crying I realized that I was holding back Ethan and Becca's time together,"Oh my god, I'm so sorry, you can go back by Ethan." I reassured as I cupped my mouth in shock.

"Thanks." Becca responded with a smile as she ran back to Ethan who was already on his phone scrolling through his Instagram feed.

I watched her sit back down next to Ethan and I couldn't help but to smile as she sat down next to him while they both leaned in and kissed.

Despite my smile, I couldn't seem to stifle the  bittersweet feeling that swirled inside of me. I bit my lower lip and began to jog lightly back to the entrance of the building. Before I reentered, I peered over my left shoulder once more.

goodbye, Ethan.

The wind grasped onto my words as it blew- carrying them away. I sighed, and made my way back inside.
