Chapter 3

After the last class of the day, I walked home down the seemingly endless sidewalk. All of a sudden, I felt a weird vibration on my back and immediately realized it was my phone. I tossed my backpack on the concrete and began to rummage through my bag until I finally found it sitting at the very bottom next to a loose pencil.

"Hello?" I answered, my voice ringing through the phone.

"Oh hey Linnea!" A voice squeaked happily, making me realize who the caller was instantly.

"What's up Bri?" I inquired closing my new sky blue nail polish I had just received from my mom.

"I was wondering if you wanted to sleep over at my house tomorrow night?" Brianna asked, her voice sounding excited.

"Hmm, I'll have to talk to my dad about that. I have to babysit in the afternoon, but I think it could possibly work." I replied, knowing that there was a very low chance that any of this would actually happen.

"Alright!" Brianna exclaimed, not sounding bummed at all with the fact that I probably will not be able to make it tomorrow anyway.

"Well, I've got to go, I have a date tonight!" I replied, twirling a piece of candy in my hand.

"No way!" Brianna squealed, "It's with Ethan, isn't it?" She added, I could literally hear her smiling through the phone.

I blushed a bit because I had no idea Brianna would have guessed the person that quickly," haha, you guessed it."

"Oh my God Lins! I'm so happy for you! Have fun!" Brianna squealed, her voice was so loud that it was ringing in my phone and in my ears all at once. I feel like that girl has always had some strong vocal cords.

"I will!" I answered and turned my phone off as I reached the steps leading up to the front door. I grabbed my key from my backpack and slowly unlocked the front door.

"I'm home!" I shouted as I walked in closing the old door behind me, making a loud creaking noise as I did so.

My older sister, Madison (Madi), was twenty years old and attending a college in Kentucky. She just came home for Thanksgiving break earlier that day; I knew from all the texts she had sent me because she was very excited to see me. Or at least that what she made it seem like.

"Madi!" I screamed, seeing her oval head poking out behind the window. I picked up my speed and sprinted up the driveway.

When I reached the front door, Madi already had it opened for me to come inside.

"Hey Lins, I've missed you so much!" Madi greeted giving me a welcoming a hug and then bouncing my fishtail braid up and down. "Wow, you've grown so much and I can't believe you can drive too!" She added, shocked as she stepped back to get a better view of me.

She stood there sizing me up for a little bit but then walked away into the kitchen to most likely prepare a snack. I missed when she would do that for me despite our close age

I giggled like a child and ran up the stairs straight to my bedroom. I stopped at my mirror, glancing at my reflection for a quick moment. My braid was somewhat perfect from when I made it during lunch. My pink tank top and ripped jeans looked cute together as well. Madi was right, I was older now and I was about to go on my first date.

Strangely, I had planned out my entire outfit which would be- my beautiful sea green dress that my grandma bought for me and my diamond necklace from my mom before she passed away. I knew this was going to be a good date. . . . hopefully.

      knock, knock, knock

"Coming!" I shouted in a slightly rushed tone, feeling flustered already from rushing back and forth. I quickly shoved my makeup bag in my bin, because for some reason I have this weird thing where I hate when people see my makeup; I don't know, it's weird. Finally, I managed to come over and open the door for her to come in.

"Come in!" I greeted with a warm smile, as I opened my door a small bit, just so Madi could squeeze her way into my room.

She stood there for a moment, taking it all in. The last time she saw my room it still had the ugly blue and purple wallpaper that I despised. I was pretty sure she liked the new 'mature' look to it because she couldn't take her eyes off of the wall for a good minute.

"Hey Linny- oh my God, I absolutely love your dress!" Madi commented as she walked in," that color seriously goes well with your skin tone and hair. It just makes you so much more. . . vibrant!"

After she had complimented my outfit, she just stared at my feet for a moment. I began to feel awkward so I looked down too to make sure nothing was wrong with them.

"Thanks," Then I looked at my feet since Madi's eyes were glued to them," right, shoes!" I laughed, pointing to my closet where I kept my clothes and shoes.

"Wait," Madi demanded, stopping me in my steps," Here, I have a pair that would look really cute with that dress you put on." Madi offered as she walked into her bedroom to get them.

When she came back a few moments later, she handed me a dazzling pair of lovely heels which were an enticing sparkly white.

"Madi, they are beautiful!" I awed, spinning the shoe around to catch a glimpse of the whole deal.

I immediately reached over and hugged her for a good minute before I stepped back and peered down at my watch.

I looked at the time and gasped," Oh gosh, I better go wait for Ethan!" I quickly ran downstairs and sat down next to the front door, waiting for my boyfriend to pick me up.
