Chapter 25

Throughout the whole class I kept thinking about how stupid I was to even fall for Ethan. Apparently he's already got Becca and he doesn't need me. Yeah, and how long has this been going on? I didn't listen to the teacher at all because my mind was bombarded with several thoughts. I sat there daydreaming about what could happen next. Should I yell at Becca or Ethan or just leave it be? I had no idea.
Finally, after a dreadful hour and a half of class we were dismissed to go down to the cafeteria for Lunch,
"Hey, Linnea." Brianna smiled running up next to me, holding her new pink Byo lunch box.
"Hi." I replied softly looking down at my gray, teel and white colored Byo lunch box.
Brianna examined me closer noticing that I had a sad expression on my face. She tilted her head at me, trying to decipher what is wrong.
"What's up, Lins? I know that face when I see it." Brianna observed looking sympathetic and putting an arm around me.
"Nothing . . . okay-well-there is something, but . . ." I stopped realizing that maybe I should not tell her and just leave it to myself. I'm seventeen, I can handle this by myself . . . 8 think.
"Just tell me, I'm your best friend your bae-." Brianna begged with a smile as she gave me her puppy eyes look.
"Alright fine." I cut in, "Okay, so earlier, I overheard Becca and her clique whispering about how they are so happy that Ethan is not with me anymore. I snuck forward and listened closely and sure enough they were talking about Ethan and I. Ethan and Becca are dating . . . ETHAN AND BECCA!!!" I explained screaming my last sentence as I held back tears.
"Wow what a nice boyfriend . . . not." Brianna huffed as she exhaled deeply and looked around the room," When did this drama start?" Brianna asked finally as she thought about what she could do to help the situation.
"Well yesterday, I guess." I explained as we walked into the extremely large cafeteria filled with posters and signs for plays and news about the school itself.
"Okay let's split up, hopefully he'll sit by you today. He did not come down yet so you have a fifty-fifty chance." Brianna theorized as she walked away to sit at a different table but she made sure she could see me still.
"Okay." I whispered as I slowly zipped my lunch box open, waiting for Ethan to sit down next to me.
"Hi Lins, where's Becca?" Ethan asked as he sat down next to me with his hot lunch tray filled with a hot dog, fries, and some disgusting pudding.
I had to brainstorm something quick before he got to curious.
"Uh-she's staying up with a teacher, or at least that is what she told me." I replied rapidly as I took a bite of my left over cheese pizza slice from last nights pizza dinner we had.
"Oh." Ethan replied fiddling with a pencil he accidentally brought down with him since he left it in his sweatshirt pocket," I see."
It was unusually silent for a good five minutes until I blurted out something.
"Look, um, I have to talk with you about something." I informed as I looked him in the eyes.
Ethan's face suddenly flushed as if he knew what was coming.
"Um-okay." Ethan's voice quavered slightly as he waited for me to start speaking.
I inhaled deeply, "Have you been dating Becca?" I inquired starring deep into his eyes and watching his reaction to the question
Ethan adopted a confused look on his face as he scanned my posture and face before responding.
"Stop it, you know what I'm talking about." I snapped becoming furious at him and giving him a more angrier looking stare than before.
"Um . . ." Ethan's face went hot and soon, almost the whole cafeteria was glaring at him. "Uh . . . let's talk about this later, okay?" He glanced uncomfortably around the cafeteria.
"No, Ethan, you jerk! You said to me in my face that you hated Becca and now you-" I was cut off by Ethan's loud and deep voice.
"I never said that!" Ethan interjected, his tone still measured even though he was under so much pressure. He began standing up angrily and slamming his fists against the table.
"Well, you never told me you were dating Becca!" I retorted furiously as I began to breath heavily.
"Ethan, honey, tell her the truth." Becca hissed in his ears. She leaned up against him and kissed his cheek and turned around and walked back to her table, watching the what she so called a "movie."
People lost their interest in our fight and decided to continue to eat their lunches and mind their own business. The large cafeteria had finally lost its silence again right after they started talking again.
"Fine, I have been dating Becca for just a few weeks. I just didn't want to tell you because I knew you'd break up with-" Ethan started as he rubbed his temples.
"So you have been using me. . ." I muttered before my match was lit," WELL WHAT WOULD YOU EXPECT YOU IDIOT?!" I screamed back at him," That's it, I'm done with you and your bullshit and your little girlfriend, alright? All those times you kissed me, they were fake, they weren't even real." I cried. I quickly wiped tears away from my cheek, "How could you do this to me Ethan? I loved you so much!" I croaked as phlegm began to clog my throat and my nose became extremely stuffy and my eyes became all watery.*
I sprinted to the closest bathroom to get away from everyone's intense stares and Ethan himself. Brianna got up immediately behind me and ran after me. This sent Ethan with a confused look plastered on his face seeing Becca at lunch after I had told him that she was upstairs.
"Linnea?" Brianna whispered knocking softly on the bathroom stall to try and get my attention.
"Go away, Bri." I demanded, my voice all weird from crying as I shoved my face further into my sweatshirt.
"No, I'm not letting my best friend go through this alone. I'm so sorry about the what happened. . ." Brianna replied, her voice sounding stern and truthful.
"It's fine, I don't care anymore." I responded sniffling and blowing my nose on the rough toilet paper since it was the only thing in my reach, " he wasn't worth it anyway."
"I know you really do care." Brianna retorted peeking through the crack in between the stall door and the beam holding the stall up.
"Well-I-gah! I don't know, I just don't feel like talking about it right now." I croaked as I covered my face and continued crying.
"Alright, suit yourself." Brianna concluded as she turned to walk out but bumped into Becca accidentally.
"Loser." Becca groaned leaning against the bathroom entrance as she walked in the bathroom herself.
Brianna walked straight past her and stomped away to the cafeteria to show someone who is really the boss.

"Alright Ethan, we need to have a little talk." Brianna motioned against the lockers as Ethan and Becca were about to kiss.
"Why? Can I ever have alone time with Becca without you or Linnea interrupting? We were discussing some serious-"
"I don't care just get over here." Brianna informed, grabbing Ethan's wrist and pulling him over by her.
"You little idiot, why would you do that to my best friend?" Brianna jeered looking him damn straight in his eyes, she was so furious I bet you could see flames dancing in her eyes.
"Doing what? Dating Becca behind her back? Then, I dunno." He shirted it off like it was no big deal and turned his attention back to Becca.
"Yep, you two never were good together." Brianna mumbled as she shook her head in disgust. Ethan looked her curiously but then looked down at the tiled ground.
"Never mind, anyway, you just ruined her life. She loved you and cared about you so much." Brianna informed as she circled around Ethan.
"I don't care about her, I care about Becca." Ethan corrected as he leaned up against Becca.
"I hate you." Brianna grumbled stomping away, giving Ethan one last angry look and then continuing on with her own life.
