Chapter 2
After Geometry, I had Biology with the majority of the students in my grade. There were two Biology classes into total and surprisingly, Becca was not in sight, which was quite shocking.
I made my way down the crowded hallway and meandered my way through the crowds of people lingering around.
"Linnea!"
I turned toward the unfamiliar baritone and found myself face to face with Ethan.
"Well, well, if it isn't mister bad boy." I teased, a smile sneaking its way onto my lips.
"Yeah, yeah," Ethan sighed, folding the pink detention slip neatly in half and sliding it into his pants pocket.
"I would watch it if I were you." I warned jokingly.
Ethan rolled his eyes and smiled. Instantly, the gears in his mind changed and I could tell he came to tell me something different.
"Anyway, I was wondering if you wanted to go to Fig Tree with me for dinner?" Ethan asked as his beautiful chocolatey eyes twinkled ever so lightly.
"I would love to!" I squeaked, feeling my cheeks warm up from saying it in that tone. Ethan's gaze traveled down my body before he continued speaking.
"What time is best for you?" Ethan inquired as he gazed into my eyes; his smile was plastered again on his face. Sometimes I thought his smile would never fade away, he was seemed to always be a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, "Obviously, it will have to be sometime after 4:30 since I have a detention. . . as you know."
"Uh, anytime I guess." I shrugged in agreement as I rocked back and forth on my feet trying to avoid awkward eye contact. "You can choose."
"Okay, I will pick you up at 6:00, is that okay with you?" He asked as he peered down at his phone.
"Sure, that works!" I agreed with a quick nod. I let Ethan stroll a few steps in front of me before I could allow my excitement to burst. Once he was several feet away I could not contain it any longer. "My first date will be a total success!" I muttered as I pumped my fists in the air. When I finished having a little moment, I quickly hopped back besides Ethan.
"What did you say?" Ethan inquired, turning to face me, his eyebrow raised in confusion.
"Oh, nothing." I responded, stifling a small laugh as I leaned my head on his stiff shoulder.
"You're so damn cute," He sighed, "I hope you know that!" He shouted after me.
His comment made me blush harder than I ever had in my life. I could feel every bit of my insides squealing in excitement. As we proceeded closer to the room, we were still talking about tonight's activity when suddenly Becca emerged from behind us.
"Hey, Ethan." Becca flirted while she began to twirl her curly black hair flirtatiously and bat her eyelashes as she gazed into Ethan's eyes.
Ethan instantly acquired an uncertain look on his face. He sighed and cleared his throat before responding. Something abstract sat untouched between Ethan and Becca, but Ethan seemed oblivious or ignorant.
"Hi," Ethan replied, feeling uncomfortable in the situation he had been put into.
"Wanna go surfing or something tonight?" Becca asked putting her hands on her hips as she gave him a sly smile. "The waves are looking pretty high this evening.
I thought for a split second that Ethan was close to accepting the invite. If he was about to accept it, I do not know what I would do. He was a sweet guy, so my intentions remained positive.
"I am really sorry Becca, but I already have plans." Ethan pouted, " Maybe some other time, okay?" He explained as he set his hand on her shoulder, sending her a warm smile. Becca rested her hand on his; as she turned to me, her blue eyes became as icy as ever.
I could not control the odd ping of jealousy that rushed through me as I watched them. I shivered awkwardly for a quick second, but then I was fine. I looked at both Becca and Ethan, and the back again, their reactions towards each other were hilarious.
I smirked the tiniest bit, but covered up with a fake sneeze. Becca shot me a look of confusion and examined me for a moment. Then, Ethan looked at me and I looked back and smiled sheepishly at him.
Becca frowned in annoyance, slapping Ethan's hand off of her shoulder, as she sashayed away to her friends- technically her minions -waiting by the next row of lockers.
"Sorry," Ethan apologized," I have no idea what's up with Becca." He itched the back of his head, peering at the tiled floor beneath us.
"Ethan, don't worry, it's not even your fault!" I replied with a tone of confusion of why he said that. My eyes searched his face as I waited for an answer to my response.
" I know, but you know how I am." Ethan concluded giving me a playful nudge and making me almost trip over my left foot.
I smiled and put my hand into his as he smiled back. Our fingers slowly began to lace together as we started to rock our arms back and forth as we strolled into our next class.

"Tonight's going to be amazing!" I exclaimed leaping the tiniest bit as we strolled to our bus to head home for the day, "I am so excited!"
"Definitely," Ethan agreed with his adorable smile, "I am too, well, I'll see you tonight!" Ethan waved at me before he hid in his bus seat, leaving the rest of the outside world behind him as he rested his feet on the seat across from the one his body was on.
Of course, I waved back watching as he threw his black Jansport backpack onto the seat.
