21// serenade and feelings
When Kayden said this was his first time doing this singing thing for Luna, he wasn't lying.
It's not because his singing voice was awful, he has a potential actually; it was good but not as good as William who was playing the guitar and doing the second voices of the song they were singing.
The vile thing about this occurring circumstance in front of us was the choice of song.
I am not good at singing or even participated as a contestant or a judge in a singing contest, but I just don't know why Kayden chose the song Take it Easy by the Eagles. And by the way, that was the song where this memorabilia was inspired.
"How exactly would this country song help Kayden with the silent treatment Luna was giving him?" I asked Nico whilst we continually hear the country music ringing in our ears.
Nico shook his head, "I have no idea. I told you, he never does these kinds of things. He sucked at this."
Nico was right. I remember Kayden mentioned at the falls that he sucked at handling these kinds of situations. But he was willing to go beyond his box for Luna and I wished Luna will somehow appreciate this, even if what he was singing was really irrelevant in terms of apologizing to a person.
As the two sang the chorus, more people circled around them, clapping and jamming with the song.
Most of them were old, considering that the piece they were singing was an old song.
It's really fun to watch old people having a grand time with youngsters because most times they tend to get annoyed with young people like us for they always think we are some hormonal human being who causes a lot of troubles all the time.
But guess what? Not all young troublemakers are hormonal. Sometimes the reason we cause trouble is that we are trying to resolve our own issues such as simply being sad, coping up with a loss, or trying to find a place where we belong. And solving those is never easy, it always takes troubles and downfalls.
By the time Kayden and William sang the second verse, it was also the time I was enlightened as to why Kayden chose that song. An amused smile formed into my lips when he sang these lyrics:
Well, I'm a standin' on a corner in Winslow, Arizona
Such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in her sunglasses
Slowin' down to take a look at me
I am pretty sure the phrase 'in her sunglasses' was not the correct lyrics. It's just that Luna was wearing one of it and this is how Kayden says sorry to her. And I totally approved.
Kayden pointed his finger in Luna's direction as he sang those lyrics with a radiating smile like the sun. The old audiences looked in our direction as some made a holler sound and others whistled and spun their handkerchiefs in the air.
My smile widened as I saw Nico in my peripheral vision shaking his head with an identical grin as to mine while Damien and Erin joined the clapping of the other audiences.
"Come on Luna! Are you going to continue torturing me or can you at least give a sign that this effort was much appreciated than the pesto?" Kayden said through the microphone as William continued to sing the song.
I looked at Luna, whose ears were a bit red. I nudged her in the shoulders as I saw her lips slightly curled upward and she turned her head away at the side.
"I saw your smile there, Luna," Nico blurted out beside me with an amusing smile, "C'mon this is not as bad as the pesto apology. And I swear he really means this singing thing he was doing. I rarely see this kind of Kayden."
I sensed Luna rolled her eyes behind the sunglasses she was wearing as I saw her hand move upward with a thumbs-up gesture.
All the people around the area made wild noises as if they are part of this success that Kayden was celebrating as I saw his wide gleaming victory smile that can almost beat the blinding blazing sunlight this huge orange ball above us was emitting.
As soon as the two finished their little show dedicated to Luna, Kayden came running towards our direction with a triumphant smile still plastered on his face.
"So are we good now?" Kayden looked down at Luna with his crinkled eyes caused by the over the enjoyment of his success.
Luna placed her sunglasses above her head and looked at Kayden with squinted eyes, "Only if you will never pretend to be dead again."
Kayden put his left hand to his chest and raised his other hand, "Promise."
"Good. You better keep yourself alive," Luna replied then looked at me, "C'mon, let's go to our next destination," she said and walked her way to the car.
Kayden was jumping with joy because of his success with Luna. William, however, was in a great victory for some of the people who watched their little show put money on his guitar case.
Two victories in one day. This must be our lucky day.
As we trailed behind Luna to get to the car, Nico congratulated Kayden with his success and did a high five with each other.
"Kayden, my friend, you are fucked," Nico implied after they high five each other.
He then gave Nico a knowing look and said, "Guess you're right."
"Where are we heading next?" Kayden asked through the driver's seat.
I peeked through the back seat and asked Kayden to look for the list by the pocket behind the driver's seat and tell us the succeeding place, "It says here... The Plotz Plot?"
I once again let out a confusing look. Why are the names of our itineraries are getting weirder? Dad, where is this place?
"Ellie, again, where is this?" Damien asked, still looking at the paper.
"To be honest, I have no fucking idea. Can any of you do some research?" I requested inside the car.
"I'm on it!" William volunteered through the passenger's seat and he started to rummage on his phone.
Despite the weird name of the place, The Plotz Plot really does exist. It was a 1.18 acre of land somewhere in Holbrook, that was bought by a CEO on eBay in honor of his five-year service to his company.
In there, there's a metal shed in the middle of the land that has a lock wherein you can find the code to it through the website of the company the CEO once worked for.
What's interesting about that metal shed was that its purpose is for life transitions. Inside of that metal shed, you will find various things from people that served as a symbol or remembrance of their former self wherein they chose to leave behind to begin a new life transformation.
This is a clever and nice place, dad. I wonder what we are all going to leave behind.
According to William's research, The Plotz Plot was located in the Petrified National Park in Holbrook. It was only an hour away from here and so Kayden started the engine and we roared away to the place for our life transitioning.
Along the drive to our next destination, I found out what's inside that little precious notebook of Nico when I saw him and Erin laying on their stomachs at the white carpet at the back of the car, doing some coloring to it.
And I was not wrong, it was full of his drawings and damn it was all so fucking amazing and realistic.
"Woah! Nico, that's so sick." I gasped, "You drew that?"
"Yes," he answered as I heard the sounds of scribbling on his drawings, "You want to join coloring too?" he looked back at me from his position.
"Hell, yeah, of course! It would be such an honor!" I heard a chuckle from Nico as I lay on my stomach beside him, making him the one in the middle between Erin and I.
"You're overreacting. It's just a sketch."
"Hey! It's not just a sketch! This is fucking amazing, Nico! I think you would be a great artist someday." He handed me a drawing of his and I can't believe it! It was the same painting we saw at the ceiling of Griffith Observatory.
"You think I will?" he asked with a smile on his face as I started to paint colors on the sketch he gave me, "I'm planning to go to college, actually."
"Then why not? It's a good idea."
Nico let out a small sigh of frustration, "Well, the thing is, I think I am a bit late for college. I was supposed to be in college today. But the rehab thing caused me to be left behind for a year or two."
I rolled my eyes and looked at him, "Nico, college wouldn't care about your age! The only thing they would care about is your talent, which are these sketches of yours!" I lectured to him, pointing at the sketch he gave me.
"Heck, I think every human being on this planet will care about your artworks somewhere in the future because it is beyond amazing and you are fucking awesome and one heck of a talented extraordinary person."
"Wow, that's encouraging, Blythe," he said and faced me, "Thank you." He beamed to me his half-smile, and I found myself halfway to fainting as I catch my breath again, feeling my rapidly beating heart that I was afraid he could hear.
Before I could say a reply, I turned my head and bowed down to continue coloring his sketch as a warm burning sensation spread across my face.
Now that Kayden and Luna resolved their issue with each other, I think it's time for me to do the same. I mean, is this even an issue? Me having these feelings towards Nico? Geez, I really do need to talk this out to Luna as soon as possible.
Focusing myself on scribbling colors in Nico's masterpieces, I managed to slip away from the thought of my feelings towards him. But as the thought of my feelings about Nico faded away, my mind went ballistic when I heard what Luna said from the second back seat.
"Holy shit, is that Ace?"
Startled, Nico and I promptly stood up from our sitting position and peeked through the car's windshield.
My eyes focused on a guy whose one arm was stretched that was asking for help through the passing cars as he stood in front of an enormous sign to where the words Here It Is were scribbled together with a black sketch of a rabbit beside it.
I inspected the guy standing in front of the sign. Through his muscular build that was popping out of his gray shirt patched with sweat marks and his dark, sloppy hair, I already knew it was really Ace.
"What the fuck is he doing there?" Nico asked beside.
"I have no fucking idea."
The car then halted just feet away from Ace as we heard a cracking sound of knuckles.
"Well, here it is. The sign right there says it all. This is where we are going to beat Ace's ass real bad," William uttered.
Before any of us could stop William into doing his intentions of beating up Ace, he had already hopped out of the car and walked his way in rapid motion to Ace's direction. Luna rushed outside to chase William.
"William! No!" Luna's scream echoed down the road.
