3rd Person's POV

Finnick lays awake staring at the ceiling as he hears everyone moving around the rooms. He watches shadows walk by his closed door as he just lays, preparing himself for the first day or training.

Sighing he sits up and walks over to the bathroom. He stands in front of the mirror head held high as he frowns.

This was real.

This was happening.

Clenching his jaw he cracks his neck then stretches out his arms.

"You got this... they will see just how good you are."

...

Finnick stands at the front door waiting for Aurora as he leans on the wall bored. He looks up hearing footsteps coming closer. He smiles softly giving Aurora a reassuring expression as she grimaces nervously while wringing her hands together in front of her.

"Ready?"

"As I'll ever be... after you." Finnick holds the door open allowing Aurora to leave the apartment.

The two walk to the elevator and stand in silence as it goes down to the basement. Finnick notices Aurora open her mouthy then close it, out the corner of his eye.

"You alright?"

Aurora nods, "I-I just... do you think we should go out there and lay it all on the table? Show them everything now? Or keep them guessing?"

Finnick thinks for a moment. He thought both would be good ideas. One would show the careers that they weren't to be scared but feared. However if they showed too much now then the careers could study them... study their movements and strategies.

"Maybe let's give it until the middle of the week. Let them think what they want now. And then we surprise them. And it's too late, by then training is over and they can't watch and study us."

Aurora nods agreeing, "Sounds like a plan... So what score do you think you'll get? Or what score do you want?"

Finnick shrugs nonchalantly, "I just want a good score. Average. Anything to survive."

"You're going to survive, Finnick."

Finnick turns sharp and sudden making Aurora jump in fright. He grabs her shoulders making her look dead straight into his serious stare.

"I will in my own terms, Aurora. Not because you risk your life for mine... do you understand?"

"Finni-"

"Aurora. You have your own family. Your own siblings. Your best friend. You have people that love you too. I know we all do but you can't save me and yourself. It doesn't work out that way. There's only one winner. There always will be."

...

During training that week, Finnick worked primarily with spears but improved his skills with knives. Unbeknownst to him at the time, he impressed the careers with his skills and weaponry. They briefly considered inducting him into their pack. But they chose against it seeing how independent he was.

Finnick would only talk to Aurora a couple times or be off on his own. Sometimes he would be in a corner just watching everyone.

However there was one day during training that Adella a girl from District 6 caught his attention. She had asked Finnick for help using a spear in exchange for showing her how to use one to catch a fish, she helped him create different colors of camouflage by using natural materials such as mud and sand.

It wasn't a very fair trade of expertise and knowledge but Finnick appreciated it none the less. That was the only time he had spoken to Adella. She had tried to talk to him during lunch but he strictly told her that it was too early to have allies. The game hadn't yet started. He didn't trust easily.

...

"Come along my dears! It is almost time for the announcements."

Aurora and Finnick push their plates of food away and follow Venus to the sitting room to watch Caesar announce the scores for the assessment.

Time had gone by so fast and they had already shown their skills to the game makers.

"What did you do for your assessment, Aurora?"

Aurora shifts nervously while shrugging, "Just some hand to hand combat with a trainer and showed a little bit of weapon use with the bladed Tonfa."

Finnick nods watching a small smile appear on Aurora's face, "You do enjoy that Tonfa."

"My dad taught me how to use it when I was younger. Before he..."

Finnick lays a hand on hers and nods, "I understand."

Suddenly a loud chime sounds in the screen. Everyone sits down and watches as Caesar goes over a little information for the games this year.

"As you know the tributes are ranged from a scale of 1 to 12 after five days of careful evaluation. The Gamemakers would like to acknowledge... From District 1, Gemma, with a score of 8. Elaeis , with a score of 9. From District 2, Glistena with a score of 10. Tiberius, with a score of 10. From District 3..."

Finnick looks down as he feels a hand grip his tightly. He squeezes it lightly nodding at Aurora before looking back at the screen.

"From District 4, Aurora... with a score of..."

Aurora closes her eyes wishing in her lucky stares that her score wouldn't be too horrible. She was a little rusty during training but she had the drive and determination to win. Or at least survive.

"7."

Aurora's makeup team all clap and celebrate.

"Not bad. I can work with seven." Venus smiles.

Tigress rolls her eyes playfully, "What she meant was great job dear."

Aurora smiles, "Now I can breathe."

"It's not over yet." Finnick mutters now feeling his heart sink into his gut.

"And for Finnick, with a score of..."

Finnick closes his eyes for a moment then lets out a deep gutsy sigh.

"8."

"Oh marvelous. We can work with these numbers. The odds are very high for you two."

Finnick felt very happy with his score. He put on a small yet impressive display with knives and a spear which gave him a very respectable score. Which Venus let him know would lead to an equally respectable odds of 10:1.

The only tributes that scored higher than him were from districts one and two. Adella put on a meager display with a knife and scored a 5, which was roughly the median of all this years 24 training scores. Aurora shocked the game makers with her skills of a bladed Tonfa. She scored a 7 which was better than every other districts average score but didn't really scare the career districts.

"Now all we have left to do is get through interviews. I can't wait to get you that baby blue suit..."

Finnick groans dropping his face in his hands.

Could the games start already ?

What did we think? How are we feeling so far?

I wish there was like a Netflix show or something that showed how all the games went down. The deaths were horrible but the idea that each one was oh so different as in location, animals, etc... it's just insane.

Fav character so far?

Check out the part 2 character list for a recap on the tributes of this game! I tried to find characters for the most important tributes that actually make some kind of impression on Finnick and Aurora.

Which tribute would you be wary of?

How do we feel about the scores given?

Future predictions?

Any special requests?
