Chapter 12
Rey stared into General Organa's eyes defiantly as she was lectured. Sure it might have been a rash decision to leave, sure they could have been killed, but they hadn't been. She had gotten everyone back safely and had two, no one, prisoner. Alder wasn't one of them... he was in there somewhere she had seen it.
"General Organa, not to be disrespectful but I don't see a problem." She cut in finally. "I understand it was dangerous but nothing the Resistance does is. You should be happy I brought your son back and a prisoner who could tell us information we need. We have the advantage now, especially after Poe damaged their base."
The woman's gaze drilled into her. "That is not my son. That is a monster that should have been killed. I'll admit that the prisoner and the damage you did was beneficial but you went against my orders to stay here. Your rash decision will lead to the Resistance's destruction if you keep going behind my back... I'm sending a guard to take care of that man you claimed was my son before that destruction begins. The other one will follow once we get the information."
"You can't execute your own son!" Rey shouted to General Organa's back as she walked away. "He's still Alder, I'll prove it! I can help him!"
She gave no response and Rey whirled around back to the direction of the cell she'd been helped out of. While there was a point behind the general's words, she wouldn't believe Alder would ever turn against her completely... Though, his threats and the pain echoed as a reminder in the back of her mind. He had lost a battle with his other half others had called Lucifi, but that didn't mean she couldn't help him win the war against it.
"If only Master Skywalker had told us how to fix something like this..." She sighed under her breath.
A sensation of someone slipping into her mind made Rey freeze and fight back before lowering her defenses as the presence was recognized. "Perhaps if you had not run off so quickly you would have learned that skill."
"Master Skywalker?" She was astonished to know he was contacting her, even more so considering the distance.
"I cannot stay in contact long. Do as I say and search the data base on healing trances... the answer will lie there." Just like that, his mind was gone, as if he had never spoken to her.
Rey picked up her pace as she changed course to the small medical bay. There should be a droid there who could search for healing trances. She could already guess the reason for it, to heal his body from the poison, but how to actually do the trance on him was the problem... Hopefully she could learn in time.
"Finn, get Alder to the medical bay now!" Rey ordered as she forced herself into his mind. "I know how we can help him."
"Are you mad? He-"
"I know! Just do it, keep him unconscious and hurry." Rey left his mind before he could give another response.
The bay was empty as she slowed to a walk and entered the pristine room. Almost immediately a droid approached her. Unlike BB-8 though, these could speak in human language. "Are you injured?"
"No, I have a friend who needs medial attention. Could you run a search about a Jedi healing trances?"
The droid was still for a moment. "Trances are not in data base."
"What? I was told they were." Rey pushed her nerves aside. "Run it again."
"No matches found." The droid repeated before giving a more helpful response. "Closest result is Whiphid healing trance."
"I can use that." Rey responded, hoping it was true. "Tell me what it is."
The droid went over to a screen and information started scrolling up, which she quickly read as it scrolled to more. The process would take a lot of concentration but Rey was sure she could do it... she had to do it... for Alder. He couldn't die for something that wasn't his fault; he would be saved. Indignant shouts made her turn from the screen to see Finn half dragging Lucifi, who was weakly struggling, into the room.
"I said unconscious." Rey spoke up, as she got closer. "Does this look unconscious?"
Finn gave her a look. "Yeah well he doesn't seem too tired at the moment. I already knocked him out twice on the way here."
"Let go of me!" Lucifi jerked away once more but still couldn't break Finn's grip.
"Strap him down." Rey said while grabbing Lucifi and pinning him down to a bed. "Knock him out again and I'll put him into a Whiphid healing trance."
"A what?" Finn gave her a look.
"I'll explain later." She replied, glancing at the droid as it helped keep Lucifi still.
She could sense pain radiating off of him as she placed her hands on either side of his head. Lucifi flinched at her touch and for a moment she saw Alder's kind gaze flicker through his eyes with understanding before he was knocked out. Rey set to work, doing her best to focus on the task of putting him into the trance so his healing could begin, the silence around her aiding in her concentration. The tension was still obvious of course and Rey knew General Organa would find them soon, which didn't help her relax, but finally she felt Alder go limp.
"Patient deceased." The droid stated after a few moments before turning away to work on something else.
"No..." Rey stepped back. "He can't be... I didn't kill him."
Finn glanced over at her. "It could have been an accident."
"Alder." She placed a hand on his chest and gave him a sad expression. "I'm sorry."
"You did what you had to." Poe growled as he walked in and lowered his blaster. "Now I don't have to do it. Everyone is safer."
"He didn't deserve to die like this." Rey paused and stared at the body as she felt his chest rise slightly. "...Force, he's still breathing!"
Poe raised his gun again. "Move we have to finish him."
Finn blocked his path. "He was your friend too, don't tell me you want to kill him."
"Of course I don't. I'm under orders." Poe's aim wavered.
"Then help us hide him." Rey stated as she undid Alder's bonds and started to lift him up again. "You already helped us bring him here you can't back out now."
"Fine."Poe huffed and started helping Finn with Alder's legs. "I think I know a spot."
