Chapter Five

Present Day
22-Years-Old

Yoongi nervously stood outside of the restaurant, keeping an eye out for Sunhee. He'd gotten there about 20 minutes early, just out of sheer anxiety that he'd be late. So now he had nothing to do other than stand there like an idiot, occasionally texting Aera as a distraction from his nervousness.

He was typing away when he heard a voice call, "Yoongi!" He looked up and his heart began racing as Sunhee was hurrying over to him. When she reached him, she gave him a brilliant smile.

"Hi!" she said cheerfully. "You weren't waiting long, were you?"

"N-Not at all," Yoongi lied. "Y-You look lovely."

That had been Aera's idea. "Don't just tell her she looks great. But if you're feeling too nervous to say pretty or beautiful, say lovely. She'll love that!"

And Yoongi was, indeed, rewarded with another bright grin. "Thank you," she said earnestly. "And you..." She looked him up and down and from side to side. "...look hot."

Yoongi choked on his own spit. Sunhee laughed.

"I hope I'm not being too forward," she said. "I'm just being honest. Why didn't you tell me you were hiding this inner bad boy persona?"

"Bad boy?" Yoongi couldn't keep himself from snorting. He was the furthest thing he could imagine from a bad boy.

"Skinny jeans, leather jacket. You look very different from the shy Uh Yoongi I met before!"

Yoongi cheeks burned. "I'm definitely still that Yoongi. I just really like this outfit and wanted to look nice for you."

"Well, that was a bit of a bold admission," Sunhee said, nudging him with her elbow. "Maybe you're not quite as shy as even you thought you were."

Yoongi finally smiled. "I don't know about that."

"Well," Sunhee changed the subject as she looked around. "You ready to go inside?"

"Yeah, of course," Yoongi replied, grabbing the door handle and holding the door open for her. Sunhee smiled again as she nodded her head toward him in thanks.

As soon as they were seated and their orders placed, Sunhee launched into a series of questions that Yoongi had difficulty keeping up with.

"So, Uh Yoongi, what do you do? Do you live around here? How old are you? What do you like to do in your spare time?"

"Um..." Yoongi finally just laughed. "Can you repeat that one by one, please?"

Sunhee giggled. "Sorry, I get a little overexcited sometimes."

"It's okay," Yoongi said with a smile. "My best friend is like that, so I'm used to it."

Sunhee grinned. "So, tell me about yourself," she started over. "What do you do?"

"I'm a music producer," Yoongi told her.

"What?" Sunhee said in awe. "How'd you get that job?"

"I went to university for music, and one of my professors passed along some of my work to a friend of his. I was offered a job last year, before I even graduated."

"Wow," Sunhee said. "Now that is not a job you hear about every day. That's so cool!"

Yoongi cheeks burned. "Thanks," he mumbled. He never had been very comfortable with praise.

Sunhee giggled at his reaction. "How old are you?"

"I'm 22," Yoongi answered. "What about you?"

"I'm 20. Do you live around here?"

"Yeah, actually, just about a 10-ish minute walk away. I hope it's not too far from you...?"

"No," Sunhee confirmed. "I live around here so I can be closer to the cafe. I may not have the nicest apartment, but at least I'm in a pretty nice area!"

Yoongi nodded. That's what he and Aera liked about the area, as well.

"And what do you like to do in your spare time? I think that was the last one," Sunhee smiled.

Yoongi chuckled. "I don't do much. I like to mess around with music. I play a couple of instruments."

"Wow!" Sunhee said. "What instruments do you play?"

"Piano and guitar," Yoongi explained. "I do do more with producing, but I like to always be practicing composing and such."

"That's so cool!" Sunhee replied with admiration. "Like I said, that's not something you hear every day. So – "

"Nope, my turn," Yoongi interrupted, being mindful of not only talking about himself. "What do you do for fun?"

Sunhee giggled. "At the risk of sounding super boring, I really only watch TV. I mean, I like to read and play a couple of video games. But to be honest, I don't have any friends around here, so I don't do much outside of work."

Yoongi perked up a bit. This was perfect! He knew exactly who could be friends with Sunhee!

"You have to meet my best friend," Yoongi insisted. "You'd definitely get along!"

Sunhee smiled politely. "Oh yeah? What's he like?"

Yoongi paused. "Oh well, actually she is a lot of fun! Energetic, always positive, always looking for new things to try and do. I bet you guys would make fast friends!"

"Oh wow," Sunhee said. "Well, in that case, I'd love to meet her sometime!"

Yoongi grinned. "You could come over tonight after dinner, if you'd like! She said she was going to wait up to see how the date went anyway."

"Oh," Sunhee said, surprised. "You live with her?"

"Yeah," Yoongi said, not even considering the fact that Sunhee could be starting to feel uncomfortable. "After university, we decided it made sense, financial-wise, so we could stay in the area."

"That does make sense," Sunhee said. She smiled. "I don't want to intrude tonight, though. Maybe we could plan a time for us all to get together sometime soon!"

"Oh, it's not a problem!" Yoongi insisted.

It wasn't long after that that the bill arrived.

"I got it," Sunhee said as she picked it up.

"Um, no," Yoongi replied, snatching it out of her hand.

"Um, yes," Sunhee argued, taking it back just as quickly. "I asked you out on this date. I'm paying."

"No way," Yoongi reiterated. "I scheduled and planned this date. I'm paying."

"Yoongi – "

"Sunhee."

They stared at each other, completely at an impasse. The waiter eventually came by to collect the payment, but looked between them confusedly as they continued to stare.

"Is there anything I can help y – "

"Can we get this check split, please?" Sunhee suddenly said, turning away from Yoongi to smile at the waiter.

The waiter again looked between them, but didn't say anything other than, "Of course." before he took the check from Sunhee's outstretched hand.

"Sunhee – "

"Just a minute," Sunhee said, waiting patiently for the waiter to return. Eventually, he did, handing off two checks, and Sunhee handed one to Yoongi.

"This is your food," Yoongi said, scanning it over.

Sunhee nodded. "I asked you out, so I'm paying for you. If you insist on paying for me, there you go."

"No!" Yoongi insisted. "Mine was more expensive."

"Take the compromise or give me that back so I can pay for it, too."

Yoongi's mouth fell open. "You're stubborn."

Sunhee looked up and grinned. "I have been called that before."

Yoongi rolled his eyes as he reached for his wallet. Sunhee giggled.

"It's okay, Yoongi. I always end up getting what I want."

-

Yoongi had his arm around Sunhee's shoulder as he led her to his apartment building. They were talking and laughing good-naturedly, and Yoongi was on cloud nine. The date had gone so well, and now he could finally introduce Sunhee and Aera. This was turning out to be a damn near perfect evening.

They approached Yoongi's door and he quickly unlocked it and led Sunhee into the apartment.

"A?" he called out, turning on a lamp. He was surprised that she was not on the couch, waiting for him.

"Aera?"

"Yoongi." He turned around to see Sunhee pointing at a piece of paper on the coffee table. He picked it up confusedly.

Yoongs,

You're not going to believe this! I got a call from Jungkook's uncle tonight, asking if I could watch him! I couldn't say no.

I didn't want to text or call you while you were on your date, but I'm sure I'll be home in plenty of time to hear all about it later! I hope it went great!

Call me if you need anything. Love you!

Aera

"Huh. She's not here," Yoongi said.

"Is everything okay?" Sunhee asked.

"Yeah, she just had to babysit. As weird as that may sound."

Sunhee chuckled slightly. "Well, that's okay. I can meet her another time."

Yoongi nodded as he turned to face her. "I really would like that."

Sunhee smiled. "Me, too."

"So," Yoongi said nervously. He hadn't planned anything else for the date and now here they were, in his apartment, alone.

"So..."

"Do you, uh, wanna watch a movie or something?"

"Sure!"

"Yeah?"

"Yeah! What kind of movies do you like?"

"Anything really," Yoongi said. "I mean, preferably nothing too scary."

Sunhee laughed. "Well, I love horror movies so you'll have to be a bit more specific."

"I guess I can handle scary stuff, it's just the gore that comes with most horror movies is not what you'd call my favorite thing."

"No gory," Sunhee said as Yoongi handed her the remote and she began looking through movies on the TV. "Got it!"

Yoongi sat down next to her and watched as she looked. To his great relief, she chose a suspense thriller instead of anything horror.

Sunhee placed the remote on the coffee table, then moved closer to Yoongi. His heart started racing as he eventually made the choice to put his arm around her. She snuggled even closer, and Yoongi was sure that he may drop dead from happiness.

Yoongi was surprised that Aera hadn't yet returned home by the time the movie was over. But then, something happened that made him actually grateful for it.

After she'd sat up to pick up the remote and turn the TV off, Sunhee turned back around and looked at Yoongi. And he knew what he wanted, and in that moment, he could tell that she wanted it, too. He gently grabbed her forearm and pulled her back closer to him. Then, before he could talk himself out of it, he closed his eyes and gingerly placed his lips on hers.

And it was perfect. It was everything he'd imagined it would be since the first time he saw her. It was gentle and sweet until it wasn't. It became passionate and intense. And suddenly, neither of them could keep their hands from wandering.

"Yoongi," Sunhee whispered as he moved his lips to her neck. "Where is this going?"

"Mmm." Yoongi removed his mouth and nuzzled his nose against the spot under her ear. "Where do you want it to go?"

Sunhee sighed with pleasure. "Let's just keep it here for now. I-Is that okay?"

Yoongi pulled back and took her face into his hands. "Whatever you're most comfortable with. And we can even stop now if you want to. It's totally okay."

Sunhee smiled. "It's getting late," she said. "So, we probably should stop. I need to be getting home soon."

Yoongi nodded. "I understand."

Sunhee reached up and gently grasped one of his wrists as she nuzzled her face into his hand. "Thank you, Yoongi."

Yoongi leaned forward and pecked her lips one more time. "Can I walk you home?"

Sunhee shook her head. "I can call a taxi. You're already here, there's no need for you to leave."

"If you're sure..."

"I am."

And fifteen minutes later, after a bit more small talk and flirting, Yoongi walked Sunhee to the door once her taxi let her know they were there.

"Can I kiss you one more time?" Yoongi asked quietly. Sunhee smiled sweetly and nodded.

Once she finally left, Yoongi dazedly walked over to the couch and lowered himself onto it. He had a moronic grin on his face as he kept imagining Sunhee's lips on his.

It wasn't his first kiss, but the way she made him feel had him feeling like it was.
