"Is everything ready?" I whispered to Sana as she walked down the hallway, passing me by. "Yes. Don't be late. 6:55 PM. We'll get the cake ready, and set it all up to surprise her." she whispered back. This day has carried two blessings. One being the bright sun that shone outside, setting light to the cherry blossoms. The sounds of birds chirping gave this day a hopeful thought that it all might not be as bad as we would expect it to be. The other reason, more important one, was the blessing of Minjee's day of birth. It was a blessing we knew her to all of us, mostly because we admired her for being the youngest and most bravest and strongest of us all regardless of her traumas. Days like this give hope to all of us. If not hope itself, they give us happiness of a kind, in small circumstances like that.
"Great. I won't be late." I smiled and took a quick look at the clock on the wall that showed 5:34 PM. Minjee was let off from the hospital for half of the day, going home to celebrate her birthday. She expected a party here we would prepare for when she returns, but didn't know her return would be ambushed with presents and a cake from us, few hours before she would even expect the party to occur. Sana smiled, feeling warmth from my excitement. I wandered around the hallways, searching for Taehyung, slightly worried that I haven't seen him the entire day. "Wait, Sana-" I spoke up before she walked too far away from me. I quickly walked back to her and looked for help. "Have you seen Mou-Taehyung today?" I nervously asked, masking the way I wanted to say his nickname like that so easily. Her face slightly stiffened, seeming like she was hiding something from me. "Oh-I haven't actually. Don't worry, he must be on his talk therapy session or something." She nervously laughed, making me raise an eyebrow. "Sana, what's going on? Why did Minjee say he has a surprise for me?" I questioned, making Sana more nervous. "That little blabbermouth. I can't believe she almost told you." She shook her head, hearing what Minjee said. "Please tell me." I furrowed my eyebrows in desperation, my anticipation becoming unbearable. "I can't. But I'm just going to advise you to be open minded about it, when you realize what it is." She said, making me slightly confused. "That's slightly worrying me." I spoke, my thoughts travelling through my brain to many things I wouldn't like seeing or getting. "If you take it the right way, you're realize the idea is quite beautiful." Sana said in a dreamy tone, making me roll my eyes in slight annoyance that I had to wait to see what it is about.
"Thanks for, well not helping." I chuckled and walked past her, who shook her head after hearing what I had said. I walked to my room, hoping Taehyung came back. Almost immediately after opening a door, I noticed a change. Taehyung's side of the room was missing many daisies. It made me so confused, hating the idea of almost all of them disappearing just like that. "What the hell?" I mouthed to myself, observing the seemingly emptier side of his room, no sign of him whatsoever. There was only a note on his bed, barely visible in all of the whiteness his side of the room manifested. I quickened my steps to his bed and picked up the note. I smiled in confusion once I began reading his awfully clumsy handwriting, the thick black marker not helping it become more readable. "6:15 PM. On the roof. I'll be waiting for you there." I sighed with a smile once I managed to read it. Taehyung must have asked Sana to leave the note this morning, making sense for me how Sana quickly walked out the door from our room today. I quickly turned over the note, not expecting to see anything written, but there was in fact more. "Also...forgot to bring my hand sanitizer and I'm running low on wipes. Please, please bring it to me when you get here. Please don't forget it. Love you. -Panicked Mouse." I burst out a giggle, laughing how he managed to ruin the moment even over a written note. My eyes widened once I read the love you part again. It seemed so casual that it made me think that maybe this was just another random and meaningless sign of affection, resembling a random way to express gratitude. Other part of me knew about Taehyung's random perks, making me believe this was his way to express his love through words. because Taehyung really was like that. Weak with words, but the most loving man I've ever known by his actions.
I shook my head to stop myself from thinking too much, putting his note on my nightstand. Not wanting to risk forgetting it, I took the hand sanitizer from his nightstand and put it in my cardigan pocket, the weight of it pulling the fabric down slightly. I checked his silver watch, disappointed at the slow passage of time. I sat down on my bed, fighting the urge to go to the roof immediately.
I became more and more impatient the longer the time passed. Making a surprise for me or not, I just wanted to see Taehyung, but knew I'd be too embarrassed to say that to him directly.
