7 YEARS LATER

Amelie stared out of the window as they trundled along down the countryside lanes. Her mum sat at the wheel, attempting to control the car as it rattled along. Amelie watched in wonder at the green fields stretching off to the hills; trees bowing before them. Unruly hedges decked with clementis and crawling wild flowers were transformed into green blurs as the car lurched forward.

Amelie could hardly contain her excitement as they reached a familiar gate. The gate opened automatically and the car bumped down the drive. A rather large building stood commandingly in front of them, it was built in weathered grey stone and a tangle of wisteria was draped over the stonework. The door was a peculiar lemon yellow and a black bird shaped knocker hung in the centre of the door.

As Amelie and her mum clambered out of the car, the yellow door of the house opened and out stepped Amelie's grandparents. Amelie's grandpa was a tall lanky man with a mop of fine, pearly white hair atop his head. He had bright moonbeam eyes, much like Amelie's mother. Her grandmother was a much stouter women and ash grey curls were cropped in a tight perm. She was a strict but fair woman, this was emphasised by her no - nonsense expression. The old couple stood together, their eyes crinkling into smiles as their two favourite people walked towards them; Amelie's mother lugging a suitcase behind her. Amelie stepped towards them and hugged them both before turning to her mother. She grinned and her mother smiled back. "Bye sweetie. Take care. Ok?" her mother said. "Yup. Bye mum. Have a good time at summer camp!" She babbled, hugging her mother before skipping inside.
