Chapter 1

In the winter of 1887, her majesty Queen Victoria found to her dismay that her letters to a certain earl had gone unanswered. Yes, at Phantomhive Manor the Queen's guard dog Earl Ciel Phantomhive had vanished without a trace. Being as rich, powerful, and closely tied to the queen as he was, the young earl had always been plagued by frequent kidnappings. However, this time was different.

Before now, Ciel had never been missing for more than a day. But this time, even with his butler who possessed seemingly inhuman skills searching, the disappearance was nearing a month in length. Though it wasn't just the unusual length of the absence that was troubling, there had also been a significant lack of ransom notes. The only mail that had come were the letters from the queen, which remained sealed and neatly stacked atop the large mahogany desk in Ciel's office, gathering dust while awaiting his return.

"This is ridiculous!" Baldroy shouted through his cigarette, slamming a fist down onto the old kitchen table, where all of the servants had gathered. "Where the hell could he have run off to?" The chef continued with a mixture of anger and fear. With their master gone, all the four servants had to do was sit around and try to come up with an explanation for the young earl's disappearance, with each story they spun becoming more gruesome and terrifying than the last.

"And I do hope Sebastian is alright," Mey-rin sighed, lost in her thoughts. The maid had always fancied the mysterious butler, but he was gone searching for the missing Ciel.

In the third seat at the square table, Finny the gardener shuddered. "What if something got them? Like a monster?" His wide, innocent eyes were glassy with tears that threatened to spill over at any moment.

Finally, the always calm Tanaka broke out of his usual silence in an attempt to console the group. "In the many years that I have served the Phantomhives, I haven't known any of them to give up a fight easily. The only thing we have to fear is the rage that the master will no doubt be feeling when he returns and sees all that work he needs to attend to," he finished with a chuckle.

"Hey, I've got an idea!" Baldroy shouted enthusiastically. "How 'bout we take some of the work off the young lord's plate, show him we're not useless without him?"

"Sounds like fun!" Finny beamed.

"Well I don't know if we're cut out for it..." the timid maid interjected.

"Sebastian'll sure be impressed if we pull it off," Baldroy suggested.

"S-sebastian...well then let's get started!"

Tanaka chuckled good heartedly between sips of tea as he watched the ragtag team run towards the uninhabited office.
