. A Harmless Prank .
°▪▫(Y/n)'s POV▫▪°
"C'mon, (Y/n)," Jack teases as he walks beside me, "You're still mad about that? It's been two days!"
After that freak incident about blasting off to the sky, Jack Frost has been literally hovering around me like a fly attracted to food. Well, not all the time but he'd usually appear every now and then. He always comes back to this town, probably because this is his home, but I can't help but assume that he's here for me.
I haven't really asked him why but I just thought about being invisible to everyone and have no one to talk to affects you somehow. I couldn't imagine how Jack could possibly deal with all those years of being alone. Now, I think that the fact that someone could see and even talk to him, made him a bit too excited. My expectations at first was that he'd be nice or at least try to befriend me, but all he ever does is either pull a prank on me or annoy me to death. I should've seen it coming though, I mean, when I was a kid, I remembered him being playful, wild.... and this handsome. Good thing he doesn't read minds.
I stop and gave him a sharp glare before I speak, "Yes, and could you please stop following me?!"
My voice was louder than I expected which caught Jack off gaurd but he quickly redeems himself with that annoying grin on his face.
"I wouldn't shout at someone like me if I were you," Jack states with smirk, his confidence over flowing which at the same time ticks me off and sends my heart beating faster.
I cross my arms over my chest and raise an eye brow focusing that I'm angry, "Why not? Is Santa Clause gonna put me in the naughty list?" I roll my eyes in annoyance, "Big deal."
"One, he might possibly do that," Jack begins with a shrug while I just wonder if he knows that was sarcasm, "Two, No one can see me, remember?" Jack pauses before he signals to the people around me, "You do realize that you're having an argunent with a lampost, telling it to stop following you?"
"What're you-" I took my eyes off Jack and look around. A lampost was indeed behind Jack and I lock eyes with a teen who is about to pass by me when he suddenly turns and walks to the opposite direction, not daring to glance back at a sleep deprived teen who's shouting at a lampost.
Great, that guy appaerently goes to my school.
I don't know him but I do see him at school and I'm very sure that he knows who I am. I just hope that he doesn't tell anything to the douche team up.
I look back at Jack, who's still smiling, while I groan in annoyance, it sounded more of a tired groan more than an annoyed one though. Then, Jack breaks into a laugh, not even trying to hold it in as I force my feet to walk again while I could feel myself getting smaller with anxiety. The familiar school building came closer as I felt my stomach tie in knots. I quickly pick up my pace, trying to escape the embarresment that I've done to myself.
Suddenly, a cold gust of wind blows towards me, making me stop in place. Insticts kick in and I try sheild my face with my arms over it as I also felt my hair being scattered in different directions, "Jack, stop!"
"Why can't you just lighten up, let loose you know?" Jack effortlessly lands down the pavement with one of his hands inside his pocket and the other holding his crooked staff. I didn't even notice he was floating above me earlier.
I roll my eyes and grinned my teeth, "Well," I start to whisper, "Allow me to enlighten you with the same answer I keep telling you. Some of us have school and some of us have projects, homeworks, and other bunch of school stuff that needs to be done."
Jack scoffs then looks at me with those icy blue eyes as we now continue to walk side by side, "That school of yours honestly sounds boring, and almost sounds like... work." He shivers as soon as the last word comes out of his mouth before continuing, "If you're having such a hard time, why not just leave everything behind, and do what you want for once?"
Hmm, this is... new?
Usually, when just lets me be and stays quiet, for a moment then, changes the topic.
I sigh at him, not because I'm annoyed but because he's right. I do want to escape this town and do what I want for once without anyone judging oe depending on me. A place where I can be myself and express myself freely. That would be such a great place, but does a place truly exist?
"It's..." I start, forcing myself not to give in to Jack's fun yet reckless idea, "It's not that easy,"
I look down and sigh once again.
"Of course it is!" Jack lightly chuckles as he brushes his shoulder against mine, instantly feeling cold but I decide not to show, and his voice is more energetic than usual, "All you have to do is..."
He stops, pulls out his hand from his pocket and extends it towards me,
".. to take my hand."
I freeze in place, just staring at his pale hand, waiting for mine as I'm caught off gaurd at his sudden change of mood. I didn't see the annoying gaurdian of fun. I didn't see the person who would annoy me until the end of time. What I see infront of me now is someone who would help me escape reality, someone who could freeze me to death with those icy blue eyes and I'll be fine with it.
For the first time, my heart beats and flutters in complete bliss as I continue to gaze at him. As if I'm not already cold, his icy blue eyes did send chills down my spine.
His voice snaps me back to his suggestion from earlier, "So, what will it be?"
My hand started moving all of a sudden, a force drawing it on his hand.
-
The school bell rang as I got up and put my things away in my messenger bag while the students inside the classroom had no intention to stay longer. Soon, the classroom was empty. It was just me and my Math teacher, Ms. Gomez, who is currently erasing the equations written on the board that was discussed earlier.
In the end, I didn't go with Jack. It was too risky, I guess. I didn't like the thought of my responsibilities being neglected since I do so much, at least that's what I think. I'm important right?
Although, he made me promise that I'd do it one day, with him. A day full of things that I want to do, absolutely anything I want. He even offered me a flight, with my consent of course, to anywhere in the world.
"Promise me okay, (Y/n)?" Jack says as he extends his pinky towards me. If I didn't know any better, his voice sounding genuine and true.
I stared again at his extended pinky just like earlier as I realized something. This might be the very first time I touch his hand. Well, his pinky, but it still counts.
I extended my pink as well and in contact, curled it together, "Yeah, I promise."
I look down on my pinky and remembered how I grinned at Jack and felt the coldness of his pinky as I made that promise. It made me look forward with my time with him.
"Ms. (L/n)?" Ms. Gomez's voice snaps me back to reality, "May I have a word with you?"
I gulp and pretended that sentence didn't affect me as I walk towards her, "Yes, Ms. Gomez?"
She leans against her desk and looks me in the eye while she croses her arms across her chest with serious look enought to tell me what's going to talk about, "You've been failing your math quizes."
I look away, not daring to see her peircing gaze, "I know. I'm sorry, Ms. Gomez," My voice was solemn and sincere.
Suddenly, it goes quiet. I know she's waiting for me to at least explain why I've been failing or even look at her, but I can't. I just can't.
Still looking around except for her face, I see Jack from the outside, trying to break inside the classroom. My eyes widens as he finally gets inside seeing that there's an open window without stumbling and facing to the floor.
Jack stands up and dusts himself then looks around the classroom before greeting me with a wide grin and an energetic wave.
What's he doing in here?!
"Ms. (L/n)?" Ms. Gomez starts, clearly getting annoyed of my divided agtention, "I'm waiting for your explanation, just so you know."
My eyes flicker over to hers then back to Jack, "Yes, about that, I,"
That was all I could say as Jack runs at beside of the angry teacher in front of me, with a mischevious smile. My eyebrows furrowed against each other as I wonder what he's gonna do next.
"I don't have all day, Ms." She crosses her arms, more annoyed at me than ever.
Jack does the same thing, but in the most hilarious and exagerated way and his voice changes, it was super high pitched, "I don't have all day, (Y/n)."
The sight made me want to laugh, but I quickly put my hand over to my mouth just in time to stop the laugh from escaping. My eyes flick over to the now, very pissed Ms. Gomez, "So, you think this is some kind of situation that you could laugh about?"
My eyes go wide, "No, Ma'am. I just-"
She raised her hand as she looked away and stop me from explaining, "Just give me an explanation."
I cleared my throat and tried not to look at Jack as exagrates and imitates every move of my teacher, "You see, I.."
After that, I never got around to really explain my grades because I couldn't keep myself from laughing which resulted in a two hour detention.
I'd at least expect Jack to accompany me at detention or apologizs, but as I glance back, he's no where to be seen. It was a long, boring, and slowest two hours of my life that I'll never be able to relive. And I owe it all to him for giving me such a hard time. Just when I think he was being nice, he does something so... Jack.
I start to head for home, and just when I think it's going to be a quiet walk, a familiar obnoxious voice makes me stop in my tracks.
- Dale's POV -
Just on time.
"Looks like someone got sent to the principal's office."
(Y/n) stares me down, as she faces me, "Go away, Dale."
"Whoa," I act as if getting hurt by her words, "Calm down, it's just me today."
She quickly turns, and starts to walk away, but I grabbed her wrist before she could take another step. Squirming out of my reach, I pull her towards me vigarously as I step aside, letting her fall to the ground to my amusement. I burst out laughing as she lays flat on the sidewalk and tries to stand up but before she could, I stood behind her and forcefully push on her back, making her fall again. Only this time, she falls face flat on the sidewalk. I hear her groan against the cement, and tries to get up again. This time, I let her. Only because I want to see her face fill with anger.
But (Y/n) never did turn. She just stood with her back against me with her fists cleched, as if preparing for a fight which made me only want to see her try. I only scoff at her attempt on beinh threatening and plan her to finally face me.
But...
My hand came to a stop as I hesitated when I suddenly hear whispers coming from her. Pffft, what a weak move to pull, "If you're cursing under your breath, (Y/n), it's better to face me."
(Y/n) slowly looks back, still whispering something I couldn't understand, but her eyes speak complete insanity. She shows a slow smile as she faces me.
"Stop that," She definetly looks creepy I'll give her that, "You think you're scaring me? Well-"
I didn't even have time to complete my sentence, because in a blink of an eye, she's inches away from my face. I gasp in terror and took a step back.
It was then I realize her feet isn't even touching the ground. I look back at her face, and it screams murder. My heartbeat picks up and I felt my breath hitching.
"What the..."
"Do I scare you now?" (Y/n) smiles creepily as she extends her arms sidewards and begins to... levitate higher off the ground. Now she hovers above me as I look upwards, convinced that she's been possessed by something.. or someone. Gusts of cold winds suddenly blew past me as I start to shiver. Is she doing that too?! Or is it the spirit that is now currently inside her?!
"Let me tell you something," (Y/n) starts off serious, still hovering above me with that murderous stare, "I have friends on the other side who doesn't like me getting hurt," Her voice sounds threatening each second that passes by.
"And guess what? They know you and your friends have been hurting me," (Y/n) says through gritted teeth while smiling which made me tense and gulp hard, "and they're not too happy about that."
This isn't real, is it!? I must be f _ _ king dreaming! I try to take a step back but ended up falling backwards. Instincts react, and I land on my elbows which sends pain throughout my body.
"So, if you still want to be alive right now," (Y/n) continous to stare me down, and is now slowly descending back to the pavement, "Stay away from me or else.."
In all my memories with her, I've never seen (Y/n) glare at me like this. If she's dead serious about this... then, it... it must be all real.
She steps forward then extends her right hand against me with all of her fingers stretched out. The next sentence she says made every hair on my legs stood up and it never stops climbing up as it reaches my shoulders.
"Take him away."
In a second, I felt the most coldest hands on my arms, lifting me off the ground and made me stand up on my shaking legs, then I was was forced to be turned away from (Y/n). Suddenly, I tense up and didn't dare to move as I felt her breath against my ear. Then, she whispers something I'll never truly forget,"One last thing, Dale. Don't you dare say this to anyone or else they'll visit you and your friends' house."
I could feel a smirk forming on her lips as she said those words with great menace.
I didn't have time to respond because suddenly, as if being pushed on my back, I stumble forward as I now break into a run, trying to out run whatever curse she casted on me.
She laughs maniacally as I run away from her made convinved that she's someone I wouldn't want to mess with anymore.
I notice that the cold gusts of wind never died down as it only gotten stronger each second. I shrugged it off and no matter how curious I was, I never turn to look until I'm safely in my house. Then, I dash right into my room, lock the door, and try to convince myself that this is all nothing but a dream as her maniacal laughter echoes through my mind and it concluded one thing as well:
I'm never going near her again.
