Chapter 14- Loud and Clear

After an excruciatingly long night I escort Betty to the trailer my dad and I resided in until he was dragged off by Sheriff Keller and his crew.

I swiftly place the key inside the lock and turn it until I heard the familiar click of the latch releasing. Opening the door I sigh, thankful for the cleaning skills I obtained over the years of cleaning up after my father.

I hold the door open and motion Betty to enter. It wasn't much, but it was a roof nonetheless. My favorite picture of Jellybean, mom, dad and I caught my eye and weighs down my already heavy heart with remembrance of when things were good.

"Wow. It looks great in here." Betty chuckles, dragging me out of my short trance.
"Cleaned it up after Sheriff Keller came in and thrashed it. Just in case my dad..." I sigh as I toss my jacket along with the keys onto the nearby sofa
"I'm not giving up on him until he gets out, Jug." She glances at me over her shoulder and smirks sympathetically.
"I know," I mutter, slipping my infamous hat off my slightly greasy hair, tossing it to the small mound on the sofa "and that is why I love you,Betty." She turns around with wide eyes, slightly taken aback from the words that rose out of my mouth like smoke, hanging in the air around us.
"I love you,Betty Cooper" I whisper loud enough for only her and I to hear.

Her expression morphs from one of surprise to delight. Her eyes shrink slightly and the corners of her delicate lips turn upwards as she walks slowly towards me. Her pale blonde curls, shining in the moonlight, bounced with every step. She stops about a foot in front of me and smiles even brighter.
"Jughead Jones," she giggles "I love you"
