Chapter 8
Harry woke up the next morning with both Draco and Teddy laying on top of him. These were the kinds of mornings that he wanted to have, waking up surrounded by family. He closed his eyes again, waiting for someone to wake up. A few minutes later, Teddy was finally shifting.
"Good morning Teddy bear."
"Morning," he replied with a yawn.
"What do you want for breakfast?"
"Eggs and toast please."
"That sounds perfect."
"Can I lay with you longer?"
"Of course you can love."
Harry wrapped an arm around Teddy, holding him closer.
"Did you have a good day yesterday?"
"It felt like my birthday."
Harry pressed a kiss to the top of Teddy's head.
"We're going to have so many more days like this."
They laid there for a while until Teddy got up to use the bathroom. Then, all of Harry's attention fell to Draco, who really did not have the right to look that beautiful. Harry brushed some hair off of his face, and Draco's eyes fluttered open at the tender caressing of his face.
"Sorry."
"I'm sorry for falling asleep on you," Draco rasped.
"I don't mind, the weight helps me sleep better honestly."
Draco hummed before stretching out.
"Breakfast Harry?," Teddy asked, walking back into the living room.
"In a minute love."
Harry would let Draco lay against him as long as he wanted to.
"Omelets and toast alright for breakfast?," Harry asked, running his hand down Draco's back.
"Sounds great. I can chop for you?"
"Yeah?"
"I don't mind."
"Thank you."
Draco was so soft in the mornings, and Harry just wanted to hold him close. When had this happened? He frowned, a thousand feelings running through his mind.
"You okay?," Draco asked, sensing the change in body language.
"Just thinking."
"You shouldn't do that, it's dangerous."
"Oh fuck off," Harry said with a laugh.
"Harry said a bad word!"
"That's our little secret Teddy bear," Harry replied with a wink. "Let's get you that breakfast."
True to his word, Draco helped Harry prepare breakfast. For once, Harry let himself enjoy being happy. He let himself laugh and smile and spin around the kitchen. Teddy was looking at Draco proudly, because even he knew that Draco was helping Teddy to make Harry happy.
After breakfast, Draco and Teddy insisted on helping clean up, and Harry was so overwhelmed that he had to hug them both. Draco was slowly getting used to the hugs, but he wasn't yet comfortable enough to initiate them himself.
While they were cleaning up, Harry grabbed all of the tie dyed clothing and the bracelets. He then made sure all of Teddy's things were packed up so that they could be brought over to the Burrow while Draco checked his belongings.
"Alright, I believe that I have everything. Thank you for hosting me this weekend Potter."
"You're welcome any time," Harry replied warmly.
"I'll see you soon Edward."
"You're getting me from school on Monday right?"
"Of course I am."
"Bye Draco," Teddy said, voice muffled in Draco's shirt as he hugged him.
"Goodbye."
"I'll see you Wednesday yeah?," Harry asked, quickly hugging Draco.
"I'll be here."
"Brilliant! Oh, I almost forgot. Erm, this is for you," Harry said bashfully, handing Draco a bracelet he had made yesterday.
"Oh, thank you Potter. I made one for you as well."
"Thanks," Harry replied with a grin, squeezing Draco's shoulder briefly. "Have fun with Parkinson."
"Enjoy your Weasleys."
Laughing, Harry waved goodbye as Draco entered the floo. He then immediately put the bracelet on his wrist, admiring how beautiful and intricate the design was.
Draco arrived at his flat clutching the bracelet because Harry Potter had made him something. Yes, Draco had made him a bracelet but it was common courtesy when someone let you into their home and allowed you to use their things wasn't it? He was a mess, and Pansy didn't hesitate to tell him so.
"Oh Merlin Pansy," Draco whined, collapsing on his couch.
"He's that bad huh?"
"No, he's so good that's the problem! His eyes are so green without his glasses on and he caressed my face on multiple occasions! He made me this bracelet and it's silver and green! I fell asleep on him and he held me! He always makes sure I'm taken care of and I'm positively sick."
"You are so incredibly whipped Draco that Salazar Slytherin himself is rolling in his grave. Go and take what you want before someone else does. Potter is an absolute catch."
"He's not interested in dating anyone," Draco brushed her off. "He wants to make sure Teddy is taken care of."
"Potter is making sure both you and Teddy are taken care of. He's practically adopted you. Next thing you know, you're going to have your very own Weasley sweater!," she accused with a laugh.
"Speaking of the Weasleys, he did invite me to their family dinner next month..."
"Oh you are so in with Potter! I'm your best woman right? Of course I am. Would you wear the white or the black? I think Potter would look stunning in white but he is a bit of a slob isn't he? I'll have to start on my designs now."
"Pansy we haven't even had a date."
"Haven't you? What about these dinners you keep telling me about? And all of the food he makes you when he clearly told you food is his love language? He already loves you, we just need him in love with you! I've been designing a new fashion line with you in mind. Could I please persuade you to model for me?"
"I don't know Pans."
"Potter will have a hard on for you by the end of the shoot I swear to it."
"Fine."
"Oh, you won't regret this," she promised.
"Why do I feel like I already have?"
"Draco, you know I just want you to be happy. You've been pining over Potter for years. You kept him at arms length for the past five years and you're letting him in. He's letting you in! Do you know how reserved and closed off that man became after the war? Potter is allowing you into his home, into his relationship with his godson, into his career, and into his life. You are a part of his life now. Don't do that thing you do where you push everyone away and brood. It's not cute."
"I'm extremely cute, shove off."
"When I'm done with you, it will be Potter saying that," she teased.
Harry was at home, having just gotten Teddy dressed. He was in his own room while Teddy was watching tv in the fort, and he was getting ready to head to the Burrow. Walking over to his dresser, he paused when he noticed something new resting on top of his rarely used hair brush.
His heart skipped a beat as he gently picked it up. It was a paper ring, obviously made by Draco. He was quickly carving out a hole in Harry's heart that only he could fill. His days were better and brighter with Draco in them, and Harry wouldn't take that for granted. Sliding the ring on briefly, he grinned when it fit perfectly.
A lot of reflecting was being done on Harry's part, and almost all of his thoughts were centered around Draco. Even thinking about Teddy and work somehow led him back to Draco. The other man had become so intertwined in Harry's life that he really shouldn't have been all that surprised. He found his hand constantly reaching for the bracelet Draco had made him as a sign of reassurance, even when he was at the Burrow with Teddy.
"Alright mate, what gives?," Ron asked, dropping next to Harry on the couch and slinging an arm over his shoulders.
"Hmm?"
"You're holding onto that bracelet like a lifeline. Is it from someone special?," Ron teased.
"Oh, Malfoy made it for me."
"Here we go again," Ron lamented dramatically.
"Shut up! I haven't even mentioned him to you in forever even though we've been hanging out!"
"You and the pointy git have been hanging out?"
"You'd know if you saw me more often," Harry replied with an eye roll, ruffling Ron's hair so that he knew it was a joke.
"I'm a man of business now, you know that."
"Speaking of, is George coming?"
"Not tonight, him and Angelina are getting the baby's room finished up. She's due any day now so they want to make sure they can relax once the baby gets here. Well, as much as you can relax with a baby anyway. Bill and Fleur are over there to help."
"Harry!"
"Hi Mione, how are you?"
"I feel like I haven't seen you in so long!"
"It's been a couple of weeks," Harry said pointedly.
"I do need to get better at keeping my calendar," she chastised herself. "We need to choose a day to get together for dinner. Do you still have Wednesdays off?"
"I'm busy on Wednesdays, but we can always try Fridays after work?"
"What's wrong with the weekends?"
"He's too busy with Malfoy," Ron teased.
"And Teddy. Andy is going away soon and she wanted to make sure Malfoy and I could handle watching him. We've been taking him to the park and doing other things together to make sure he's comfortable you know? 5 is still quite young to be without the only real parent you've ever known, so we need to make sure that we can take care of him together."
"I'm so proud of you Harry for working through your troubled past."
"Are you past it? All of those longing looks exchanged across the great hall, all of the times I've had to listen to you talk about his eyes-"
"Ronald! Leave Harry alone will you? Whatever they have going on is none of our business, and Harry will tell us when he feels ready to do so."
"Seriously mate, this is getting to be a bit much. I know I was focused on him a lot growing up but we're good friends now. I don't think he's up to anything, we're just taking care of Teddy together and getting to know each other better."
"Sorry Harry, old habits die hard," Ron replied sheepishly.
"It's fine, just lay off yeah? Especially around Teddy, he adores him."
"Harry!," Teddy yelled from the kitchen.
"Yes love?"
"Can we go ice skating with Draco?," he asked, climbing into Harry's lap.
"If he wants to, yes we can."
"He will. He took me once."
"What else have you two done?," Hermione asked curiously.
"Lots of things! Draco likes taking me to museums. We look at all of the pretty pictures and then we make our own! Harry you should come with us next time pretty please?," Teddy babbled.
"If it's okay with Malfoy."
"I'm going to miss grandma but we're going to have the bestest week ever! I have lots and lots and lots of ideas!"
"Like what Teddy bear?"
"Ice skating and ice cream and the park and the zoo and the aquarium and then we can do more arts and crafts and make food together and watch all of the Disney movies with Draco and play games and-"
"Breathe love breathe," Harry interrupted. "Use your sentence stoppers yeah? You're turning red."
"I'm so excited!"
"I'm excited too," Harry promised. "How about we make a list and see if Malfoy has anything to add hmm?"
"Okay!"
Teddy dragged Harry off to find some parchment while Ron and Hermione shared a knowing look.
"He's going to end up being my brother in law isn't he?," Ron lamented, burying his face in Hermione's shoulder.
"Look at how happy and relaxed Harry is. He needs someone other than us, and we haven't been around as much as we should. We've all become workaholics."
"Of course I want Harry to be happy, he's my brother. But Malfoy makes him happy? I'll have to see it to believe it, they've always been at each other's throats."
"He's so much better to be around now, I promise. We'll have to have dinner with the both of them soon and find out just how serious things are."
"It's gonna be serious for my health," Ron replied with a snort. "But obviously I want Harry to be happy, he deserves it."
"Dinner it is then."
Meanwhile, Harry and Teddy were writing a very important letter. Harry was trying to write, Teddy kept taking the pen from his hand and writing on the parchment.
"Malfoy,
Hi Draco! We miss you already."
"Teddy love, you have to let me write it," Harry interrupted with a laugh.
"Fiiiiiine," he pouted, handing the pen back to Harry.
"I'll let you sign off on the letter, how about that?"
"Okay."
"Teddy and I have been drafting a list of activities to do on our vacation that we would like to submit for your approval.
Ice skating
Museums"
"Making the pretty pictures!," Teddy interrupted.
"Okay Teddy bear, how about you tell me what to write here and I'll write it yeah?"
"Yeah."
"Malfoy,
Hi Draco! We miss you already.
Teddy and I have been drafting a list of activities to do on our vacation that we would like to submit for your approval.
Ice skating
Museums
Making pretty pictures
Ice cream
The park
The zoo
The aquarium
Arts and crafts
Make food together
Watch all of the Disney movies
Play games
Is there anything else you would like to do? Teddy was so excited he forgot to breathe so I told him we would channel his energy into a letter to you. There's no rush to reply, we'll talk soon.
Love,
Teddy and Harry"
Harry knew he would be hearing about this soon enough, and that he should not have offered to let Teddy sign the letter off. At least it was apparent what he had written himself, he thought as he watched the owl fly away.
"Is that an owl from who I think it is?," Pansy asked, jumping up to the window.
"Pansy don't you dare-"
"It is!," she squealed. "This is going to be so much easier than I thought. It's only been a few hours!"
"Give me that you wench!"
"Fine, read your love letter then."
Draco read it, a small smile forming on his face automatically.
"Is that a list of dates? We all remember how well the ice cream date went."
"Yes, I do recall," he huffed.
"You need to wine and dine Potter and sweep him off his feet."
"No, he wouldn't like that. He doesn't like going out in public very much. Unless I can find a muggle restaurant far enough away that he would be okay with that. Hmm. Yes, that could work."
"Have him come watch you model, take him out for dinner, and then put out for some dessert. It'll be perfect."
"As if he would accept that offer on the first date," Draco replied with a snort.
"As stated earlier, you've already gone on a multitude of dates. I don't know why you both don't just talk to each other."
"We don't always need to, we're usually on the same page."
"Unless it comes to you both being oblivious about your feelings," she muttered under her breath.
Pansy knew she had her work cut out for her, but she loved a good challenge.
