7. Deep breathes
"Okay, remember to breathe in and out," Jim consoled. "Calm yourself, I'm not giving birth," I rolled my eyes. "Save that for when you guys are married," stark joked, but he was focused on me. Jim mumbled under his breath and I slightly smiled. These two...
"Keep the bucket away from your body, unless you like being covered in blood," I said, preparing my brain for shape shift. I was wearing leggings and a sports bra. I didn't really care who saw me because it's more covered up than a bathing suit and honestly, now was not the time to become squeamish. I noted that Jim didn't make some jerk comment, and hit on me. Not that I would expect it from him. But come on! Teenage boys...
"Please don't die..." He whispered, and I smirked, "I'll try not to,"
Then it started. In order to maintain a constant state of shift, I was dodging my brain about different animals all at once, while remaining a humanoid form. "A warning would've been nice!" Jim said, and I could tell it was normal volume, but the strain on my brain made it echo and slice daggers through my skull. "Gee, sorry. Just trying to heal myself with magical super genetic powers, no bigee," I grunted sarcastically. He shut up after that.
I imagined my body in my head, where everything was. The doctors had a few wires hooked up to me, so they could monitor my stats. "Blood incoming!" I pictured extra blood extended outside my body, as if I were creating an extra limb, but when I heard a "now!" I dropped it. I realized my eyes were squeezed shut, and green and red dots swarm before my tenebrous vision.
If worry about who was splattered with blood later. Now I had to reconstruct the holes in my body. I focused on moving my insides, healing myself. I shut out the world around me, and quickly healed. Wow that was easy.
My body ceased its trembling, and i wrenched my eyes open to the blinding lights. The scene before me was not the same as the former.
Before, 10 doctors, Jim, and Tony, had been standing about me eagerly. Now, 5 doctors sort of roamed. Tony was sitting relaxed, peering up at me with his head rested on his arm. Jim, was actually sitting in a chair that had appeared beside me. And his hand rested on my hand, winding our fingers together.
"What happened?" Stark shot up from his seat, and briskly walked towards me. "What's going on?" I managed. "Jim. Buddy boy. Hey, little boyfriend!" Tony called, slightly nudging jims shin. "What?" He groaned. "Wake up. She's back,"
Jims eyes snapped open from their squinted position. "Oh my god you're alive..." He sighed and pulled me into a hug, still intertwining our hands. "Yeah, obviously... I've been standing up the whole time," I chuckled nervously. Then he undid our hands, and grasped my face. He kissed the middle of my forehead before once again cradling me. I was in utter shock. Yeah we've hugged, occasionally held hands. But not in... That way. And the kiss, yeah whatever, you may be thinking. But to me... Different. Especially considering I hadn't had my first kiss ever, and not like I will. Who would want a beast? I could see out of the corner of my eye, Tony smirking, but he cleared his throat.
"You don't realize..." He mumbled, and slapped his hands together. "Lil..." Jim started, pulling away, "you were just, doing whatever you were doing, for 3-4 hours," he said, astonished at my body clock malfunctioning.
The breath caught in my throat. "Three to four hours?" I gasped. Jim solemnly nodded. Then I really looked at him. He had the bandage from my unintentional attack on him, and he had slight black circles under his eyes. Probably from trying to stay up. He even pulled up a chair next to me, and stayed by my side.
"You were there, with me for all those hours?" I squeaked. "He wouldn't leave your side. Couldn't even get him to eat," Tony said, patting Jim in the back. I felt like I was going to cry. So then, I don't know why I did it, but I planted a small kiss on his cheek. "Thank you," I whispered in his ear. When I pulled away, it looked at his slightly blushing face. A chill swept through my body as the door opened, letting a fresh gust of air. Why was I so cold though?
Oh. The sports bra and leggings. I suddenly became very conscious, and wrapped my arms around my stomach and shivered. Like always, Jim noticed, and wrapped his jacket around me. I blushed a little, and remembering my eyes, tried to turn away. "Do you have some warm clothes?" He asked a nurse, and she shook her head. "Sorry. 'Fraid not. Right next door Theres a small little shop," she said, and returned to her work.
"I'll go," he said, and began to hurry out. "It's fine I'll come," I said, grasping his arm. "Might wanna listen to her. A girl knows her style," Tony said, raising his eyebrows. Jim looked him straight in the face, "sometimes, I know her better than she knows herself," and turned to me. I gazed into his brown eyes before he tore away and walked out the door.

It was a lot of checkups later, and I was being medically interrogated. "We would like to analyze your DNA. The way you were able to heal yourself... It can save a lot of lives," the man said, and he folded his arms. The small desk in my hospital room was completely clear except for one file. Mine.
I was talking to the head doctor of the whole... Whatever they call it. He was fairly tall, and had a full brown head of hair. His eyes were brown, almost black. He was normal weight, and had worry lines across his forehead. His face held constant smugness, and I just wanted to slap him silly. His name tag read Dr. Aiden Siiler, the black plaque contrasting his white shirt and yellow tie. No it won't," I said quickly, maybe go quickly. He looked behind him, before sighing. "Ms..."
"It's Emily, just Emily," I dead panned. "Ms. Emily. Since this is your file, we cannot use it for any purposes. Our patient personal regulations. But, we haven't even collected enough data by far. We would like to explore this." He said, trying a fake smile. "I'm afraid not, I do not give you the consent," I said, and refrained from rolling my eyes.
"Oh ms. Emily. I'm afraid, if the chance comes, and the odds are in my favor I may override the-"
"There you are!" A voice barged in from the doorway. "Jim! I see you got my clothes, I should put them on immediately," I said with a fake smile, itching to get away from the doctor. Shooting up from my seat, I grasped the clothes from him, and gave him a look that said 'help'. "I'll go now," I said, and he leaned into my ear. "Your eyes are red,"
"Go figure. Please get rid of him," I whispered, and gave his eyes one last glance before heading to the bathroom. "Hello, I'm Jim. I'm terribly afraid that Emily is currently troubled and cannot..." I heard a snatch of conversation as the door closed behind me. Leave it to jim to help out, when getting rid of people.
When I locked myself in the surprisingly sanitary bathroom, I checked through the clothes he got me. Black, form fitting pants; a black t-shirt with big white words saying "WILD".
I giggled at his joke, and mentally congratulated him on being very fashionably accurate with my style. Finally, on the bottom were some dark, navy blue converse, and a pack of ponytails. I wiggled into an extra bra I had brought, and tore off the leggings. The clothes were soft and fitted, so I knew shifting would be easier. Jim was good...
My hair came up in a bun, and I splashed water on my face. Okay, now I'm suitable for the public.
Once returning to my room, I noticed that the swivel chair was still turned in. Please don't let that guy be here...
"Excuse me?" I called, and the chair swung around at an alarming speed. "Hey there. You look great if I do say so myself,"
I clutched my heart in surprise, but laughed. "You almost gave me a heart attack," I laughed. "Good thing we're in a hospital," Jim joked. I rolled my eyes, and he turned slightly more serious. "But really though. You look good,"
I could feel myself blushing, but controlled it. With my mood eyes, I had to learn how to control my emotions. "I'm hungry..." I muttered and realized Jim hadn't eaten because of me. I opened my mouth to say something, but he cut me off. "It's fine. I stayed by your side, my choice," he said, getting up and resting an arm on my shoulder.
"But... I will take you out to eat. A little treat for what we've been through," he smiled, and I raised an eyebrow at him. "In public? After everything?" I noted, and he pretended to be hurt. "You just can't be seen in public with me..." He joked. "Enough flirting. Wow, it's sick,"
Tony stood in the doorway, I wasn't sure how long he'd been there. I immediately tried to control my blushing. "You're just jealous that I'm smooth," Jim joked. Hmmm... When he'd get a little cocky. Well, he's always been, but not as brave. Maybe, I kinda like it. "You wish," Tony breathed under his breath. "Why don't we catch something to eat," Jim suggested turning to me. Tony opened his mouth but Jim shut him down.
"Us,"
Before I could even think rationally, I blurted out. "Yes,"
He nodded, and lead me out the door to the very judge mental public.
