34. Finally (Ben)

A/N
Since this is a repeat of FINALLY, but just with Ben, the same rules apply. Italics is flashback. Enjoy!

"Okay, so this is what's happe-"

"Hold on there tin man," Steve interrupted, Tony stopping mid sentence. "I'll be mostly making the plans," tony looked at Steve like he was a walking mushroom, "uh no- my tower, my own idea for the group equals my plan," tony said, shaking his head. "Do you want to get them in or not?" Steve asked, rolling his eyes. Sighing, tony crossed his arms.

"First things first, where were you and your friend being held?" Steve asked Emily. I looked across our circle of chairs, as she visibly sank into it. "His name is Jim, and we were inside a plane," She replied, deep in thought. "And who was keeping you hostage?"

The minute the sentence was uttered, her expression was frozen. Basically, it looked like she had swallowed a rock. Her eyes stayed in place, as if they were trying to keep their cool. I'd had a secret long enough to all the tricks to hiding one. So I also knew how important it was to have secrets. Squinting my eyes, I let Emily have this one.

"Fury," she answered shortly. Ahhhh, I see what she's doing. Stick to the vague answers so you're technically not lying.

"Yes, but who directly?"

Her eyes shifted into a gray color, catching me off guard. Change of emotion... Not suspicious at all. Jay seemed to pick up on it as well, because he gave me a raised eyebrow.  "I don't know," She said, confidence coming into her voice. Except now, not only had Jay and I noticed the quick eye color change, but the rest of the group. "What does dark grey mean?" Jay piped up.

Her quick breath was caught only by my ears, as I saw the gears in her brain work out an excuse. "Frustration. I don't know who it was, so it'll just make things harder," she played off surprisingly well. I once again let it go, and so did the rest of the group. Steve stood completely still, brow furrowed in confusion. "Umm guys. I'm new here, so please explain the sudden eye color change?" He asked sheepishly. Lea pulled her lips into a sweet smile. I smiled as well because of her behavior. Always the one to jump at the chance to explain things. Only lord knows how many times I've needed to call her, only to explain how to get the microwave on defrost. "Side effect of powers. Changes color according to her emotions," she explained quickly. "And lily," she continued, "no need to worry. They probably moved him anyway,"

She nodded her head, turning to Steve. "What's the plan?" She asked. Steve and Tony shared a knowing look.

Before me stood the monster that was the triskelion. An architectural masterpiece; effective and striking, the triskelion seemed to actually pose a real threat. I hadn't realized before what kind of daze we were actually in. We're we going to just grab him and go? We weren't trained superheroes!

I turned to my four associates, Aida, Emily, Jay and Steve. Tony and lea had stayed behind to work the tech. Honestly, if lea were out with the team I would just have panic attacks worrying about her safety. "Just remember, stick to the plan," Steve said, and right when he finished, our very own stark watches gave us a beep.

"Lea and tony are going to stay here. Lea will first hack into the system and figure out where they're keeping jim," Steve said, giving tony a nod. "We'll mess with their security as well. Temporarily turning off their security cameras," tony explained. "Yeah, but won't they notice something's wrong when their cameras magically turn off?" I asked. "That's where you and Aida come in," Steve continued, "while we're sneaking in, you guys will be a distraction. With Aida's gymnast skills and your enhanced power, it should draw enough attention,"

Tony nodded. "You guys will blow up a hole on the other side of jim's destination; when you get it," Steve leaned forward in his chair, "when we give the signal, release a smoke bomb, and then get the hell out of there,"

We simultaneously studied the message on our watches.. "Looks like he's on the east side. Tenth floor, unit 5, room 15," Emily instructed. "Tony, what kind of security measures are there on the door?" Jay questioned. Goofy Jay was out of the building, and serious Jay had checked in. It always amazed me how quickly he had been able to change tracks. When Jay got serious, it got scary sometimes to be honest. Though he may not look like it, that kid was just a cauldron of emotions, brewing inside of him. But you never knew what you might get, the freaking elixir of life, or some rat poison.

"Security key card, you guys'll have to swipe it from a guard," Tony's voice emanated from our devices. Steve gave each of us a determined look, before gesturing toward the west side of the building. "Looks like you guys are up. Don't blow the thing up before we set the signal,"

Aida and I gave Steve a nod, quickly making ourselves towards the building. I was glad to be paired up with Aida. I saw that girl during training, and if I were ever in a cinch, I knew she had my back. She chuckled to herself, so I peered over. "What's so funny?"

"To think," she started, "We show up to school lets say next week, no reason why we were absent, no work done, the teachers are going to want an excuse?" She said, so I nodded to continue. "I would love to see Mr. Eli's face when I show up to school saying I broke into a SHIELD facility with a bomb to break out my enhanced friend with captain America and iron man," she laughed, in which I joined her. "As if he would believe that," I noted. She shook her head of curls, "that's the best part. When I've got mother- effing Tony stark trailing behind me, backing me up," she finished with a smirk, probably imagining the entire situation play out with our math teacher.

I nudged her quickly, "there it is,"

"Ben and Aida, when you blow up the building at our signal. That'll be when everyone is set in their positions. We don't want the building to reach havoc before we've even gotten inside," Steve explained.

Jay nibbled on his index finger. "Where will I be?" He asked. Tony made a box shape with his hands, then gestured to a corner. Whichever side it ends up being will determine where you go. But, there are elevators right on each corner, so you'll be waiting there for Emily and Steve. Unlike them, you can't just walk through the front door,"

"So we've gotta sneak up to that wall, blow it up, without hose two security guards seeing us?" Aida sighed, cracking her knuckles. "Want me to handle it?" I asked, feeling my arms begin to harden up. She placed her dainty hand on my chest, pushing me back with much more force. "I needed to stretch anyway," she said"Walking up together, we sidled towards the guards. "Hey kids, can't be here. Either use the front entrance or leave," one of them started, before realizing our attire. "Oh, so you're one of them cosplay kids. Sorry, that comic on stuff is another building," he explained, turning to his buddy to continue talking. We stayed put, as they exchanged a few words. The other one turned to us, realizing we hadn't left there presence. "Hey, you really gotta go,"

"I'm about to blow a hole into this wall," Aida said, causing the guards and I to double take. "This isn't handling it!" I whispered to her, chuckling nervously. "You're right, sorry," she said, turning to the baffled security. "This is,"

Her leg sprung in the air, hitting one straight in the face. While his buddy lay passed out on the floor, security number 2 tried to pull out a gun.

Tried.

Aida was already on him, jabbing a needle-which came out of no where in my opinion- into his neck. The toxic action of her making spread effectively, knocking him out cold. "Well, that was easy," I said, stepping over the slumped body. "Yeah, cause you didn't do any of the work," Aida beamed, placing the explosives on the wall. "Have they left yet?" She asked curiously, after a minutes. "I'm not sure," I answered, squinting into the distance, "can't see them at all,"

"What do you mean walk through the door? Maybe Steve, but not me," Emily said bewildered. Tony laughed, "you'll be right next to Steve, don't worry. You'll be turning into an ant, hiding in his shirt pocket. When the security scanners go over him, you'll register as an insect,"

"Well, Emily's probably a bug by now, so we should stay on high alert," Aida said, sitting on the floor. I gestured towards her in confusion, raising an eyebrow. "I thought you said high alert?"

She looked from side to side, "looks clear to me," she answered, settling her eyes then on the bodies. "Oh," I felt realization hit me as well, "we can't leave them here during the explosion, can we..." I groaned, nudging one with my foot. "No," Aida grumbled, getting up.

"So that's how she gets in, but what about Jay?" Lea asked, running a hand through her hair. Tony held up a pen. It had a sleek black design, looking as spotless as a black hole. "This is not an ordinary pen," he said simply, and Emily rolled my eyes. "Gee, who would've known," Jay mumbled sarcastically. Tony shot him a glare before continuing. "It's a laser pen. And it should cut through glass. As soon as you get to the elevators, you can use this to let Jay in. Once Jay is in the elevator, we'll give the signal for Aida and Ben to blow up a big ass hole in the building, and when they do, Lea and I will take out the security system," he explained. "Yeah, but with all the chaos, I'm sure people will be using that elevator," Aida commented.

"We can hack the system so that the button flashes red. Aka meaning that it's out of order,"

I grasped the legs of one of the guys, while Aida lifted his arms. "What the hell!" She grunted, as we hoisted him up. "Well, now we know he got a nice hearty breakfast," I said, glancing around. "Are we just going to stand here casually holding this guy or?..." Aida suggested. "Over to those bushes," I concluded, trudging over. We set him down slowly, or at least I did. "Don't just throw him there!" I exclaimed at her rough behavior. "What?" She shrugged, before rolling her eyes. "He was the one that pulled a gun on me," she pointed out. I sighed as we reached the other one. "Well, he's just doing his job. Especially after you karate kicked his friend in the face." I pointed out, now pulling on the second guy. "Touché," she murmured.

Our watches beeped to life halfway through our security guard weight lifting exercise. "Guys we have a problem. Steve got taken by Sitwell to talk to Fury. It's seems no ones suspicious yet, and I've got Jay in the elevator. He told me to complete the mission," Emily hurriedly ranted. Aida hastily dropped the guard into the bushes. "Damn it this could compromise the mission!" She huffed into the watch. "It'll cause slight complications, but we'll manage," tony said, trying to calm her down. "Fury has eyes everywhere. Someone must've spotted Steve walking into the tower, and alerted Fury," he continued. "But we can't go back now. I'm turning off the elevator, security cameras at the count of ten. Ben, Aida, your ready?"

"Have it all set up, waiting for your order," I replied, jogging over to our safe spot with Aida. "Got the button?" I whispered, and she nodded. Tony sighed, "Alright, here we go. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... Blow the place up!" 

Aida slammed her hand down on the button. The explosion was bigger than we expected, the sheer heat of the bomb breathed over our faces as it flung us a few feet. "No time to be laying around, let's go," Aida said, recovering quickly. I groaned, but followed her either way.

"Once you get to the tenth floor, there'll probably be guards waiting at the door. You need to take them out swiftly, and quietly. Hide them, in the elevator, and press the emergency stop button. Try not to be loud when taking agents down, go on stealth mode. If not, they'll come flooding towards you worse then a tsunami," tony explained, raising his eyebrows. "But we need to make one thing clear," Steve paused, "we are not killing any agents. Use temporary paralysis or just plain kicking them in the head; but everything must be non lethal," he said, looking us all in the eye.

The defeating alarm blared directly into my eardrum. Being completely honest, how can anyone expect people to calmly walk to the exits when the pulsating alarm makes me feel like I'm on the final countdown of jeopardy. "How convenient," Aida said, her voice very faint. She picked up a bullhorn laying on a desk, and raised it to her face. "Ben-ny boy, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore," she said, a smirk reaching her lips. "Wreak some havoc!" I saluted, before turning my arms into my signature spears.

I embraced the exhilarating feel that always accompanied them. It was short lived as soon as a bullets came at my face. My arms shielded my much needed vital organs, as I advanced forward. I sprinted over when they were done, knocking them all out with a quick hit to the head. "I'll be back," I said, smiling at my movie reference. "Oh so it's like that now? Movie reference battle?" Aida smirked, skidding behind me. "You're on!" I challenged, "in fact," I added, "let's put songs in there as well,"

Just then, we leaped into action. Kicking, punching, jabbing and dodging; practically at everything that moved. A tidal wave of agents just came at us, and honestly, I was just waiting for a movie or song reference to come on.

"Who are you guys?" Someone shouted from the crowd. Before I even processed the words, Aida took up the chance. "I'm batman!" She screamed, punching him down. I ducked an oncoming bullet, just as I glanced at five agents coming towards Aida. "RUN FORREST, RUN!" I screamed to Aida, earning a smile as she sped to the other side of the room. I fully took in our surroundings, realizing that the wall had opened up to the lobby.

Good, quick exit.

Aida and I went back to back, using the technique of eachother as defense. Aida got a quick punch in the gut, so she took the chance. "D'oh!" She grunted, smiling still. I leaped onto a desk, pulling an automatic clock of the wall. I quickly hit it against someone's head, before shouting to Aida. "What time is it?" I tossed the clock to her, in which she shattered it against some poor soul. "ADVENTURE TIME!" She replied, pulling out some needles.

Suddenly, the sprinkler system shot on, adding wet'n'wild to the chaos. Aida and I sent eachother a glance, having a silent conversation.

"ITS RAINING MEN!"

Punch.

"HALLELUJAH, ITS RAINING MEN!"

Kick.

"AMEN!"

Dodge.

"ITS RAINING MEN, HALLELUJAH!"

Stab.

"ITS RAINING MEN, AMEN!"

"Once you reach his door, you'll open it up, and grab and run. No time for heart felt remorse and guilt or thanks, whatever you do. Blow a hole in the side of the building, and use the pterodactyl to fly you guys out of there. Tell us when your blowing the hole, so that we can signal Ben and Aida to run like hell. We're meeting under the highway, not that far from the Triskelion. I'll be there with a car, and we'll hide out at avengers tower," tony explained, coming to a conclusion from the very long plan.

"Let's go get our friend back," Emily said simply. But it struck me more than that. From the entire rollercoaster of emotions that had been this week, we still needed to rescue Jim. And even when we do, if we do, I'm pretty sure we haven't reached the biggest drop.

I'm so sorry. You have no idea what's been going on.  But it's no excuse, I should've updated. I seemed to also have had a bit of writers block, but then quickly really sank into bens character. Tbh, I feel like this AN isn't complete without all caps so heRE IT IS. WOOOOOH. SPREAD THIS STORY WITH YOUR FRIENDS. PLS VOTE AND COMMENT!

BTW, MY BDAYS IN A WEEK AND A HALF ( OCTOBER 24th) MAYBE ILL DO SO ETHING SPECIAL WITH THE BOOK, ONE SHOT MAYBE? Pls leave your opinion.
