31. Void
"You were right," Steve admitted, pacing the room. "What do you mean?" I asked, taking a seat. "She's dangerous, and she's here," Tony muttered, fixing the arm of an iron man suit which was standing by. "What do you mean she's here?" Ben asked shakily. Tony let out a long breath, gesturing towards Lea.
"JARVIS picked up an intrusion inside the tower. She seemed to be able to stabilize her negative body aura, so that she blended right in. The only time we saw her negative energy, was when... When Jim lost control," she explained, grasping Bens hand tightly. "Why does she keep going after him?" Aida asked, slumping back.
"We've had a rough life, Aida. We've got a lot of darkness inside of us," I deadpanned, tensing my muscles. "Why are we just sitting here then?" Jay asked, throwing his arms in the air. "That's just what I was telling, capsicle!" Tony exclaimed, stepping into his gleaming suit.
"We need a plan," Natasha argued, "she can turn us against eachother,"
"We can't just let her pick us off!" Tony shouted back. "Nat, he's right," Clint muttered. Steve paused for a second, "suit up,"

"Ow! You elbowed me in the rib," I snapped, pushing Jay. "Sor-ry," he said, feeling the wall. "Where's the godamn li- oh here it is," he explained, letting blinding light flood through the room. I held up my fists quickly, scanning the room. "Give me a warning next time, huh? What if she was standing right there?" I hissed, narrowing my eyes.
"Oh yes, it would've been such a surprise for her. It's not like we've been talking the whole time," he said rolling his eyes. "How'd I get stuck with you cheap shot?" I sassed, checking behind the furniture. "Cheap shot? How long did it take for you to come up with that?" He laughed, opening the door to the next room.
Just as it creaked ajar, a black cloud wrapped around his waist. He let out a shout of surprise, the dark beam pulling him away. "Jay!" I shrieked, grabbing his outstretched hand. My feet began to slide across the floor, the strange substance surprisingly strong. I tried to put my arm in the cloud, but it moved around me, like ebony water.
"I-I don't know what to do!" I screamed, grabbing as much of Jay as I could. "I do," he said, a look of realization in his eyes. "Team A, how's your status?" Lea asked through our bluetooths. "Not good!" I panted, "She's got Jay in this darkness cloud, wrapped around him or something. I can't get it off!" I screamed. "I know what to do! Team B and C, meet up then come for us together using our trackers. Lea, collect all the data you can about her," Jay barked into his communicator. "Track us?" I asked, before Jay scooped me into his arms bridal style. The minute my feet left the traction of the floor, we were being pulled through the hallways. Lights flickered on and off, until we stopped inside a pitch black room. I was wretched from Jays arms when we came to a stop, sprawled out on the floor.
Miniature echoes and whispers surrounded us, swirling above our heads. "Your plan sucks," I whispered, trying to find him in the darkness. "Yeah well, yours was no better," he said, his voice untraceable. "Where are you?" He added. "Hold on," I said, letting my eyes blink into those of an owls. A figure was spotted a few feet away, crouched and blindly reaching.
I crawled over, switching back to human. "Jay," i whispered, grasping his hand. "What is this stuff, this fog?" Jay asked, tightening the grip around my hand. "I really don't know..." I answered, trying to listen to the strange murmurs. Jay must've been listening too, because he shifted backwards.
"Oh my god, I think I understand what they're saying. Emily, oh my god!" He exclaimed, dread settling into his voice. I perked up my animal ears, to finally hear.
Different voices were all joining in; male, female, young, old. But what they were saying, sent chills up my spine.
"Die! Die! Die! Die!"
"You are worthless,"
"Why don't you just fall in a ditch?"
"I hate you,"
I scooted closer to Jay. "They must be the people she's affected," I concluded. Just at that moment, I heard a voice I recognize talk. "And that sickening feeling as you watch trapped inside your own body; that hit of realization. It hurts because you know you don't love them"
"Jim," I murmured, letting the painful thought come back. Jay jumped to the chance before I could psych myself out. "No Lily, that's not Jim. That's just this crazy ladies magic,"
"Well I'm afraid you're wrong," a cynical voice announced. The voice was so silky, so clean, it made my skin crawl. Before I could utter a word, dimmed lights gave us little sight.
It was the woman. She had a tight body suit, hinted with midnight blue and dark purple. Black Raven hair reached her waist, each strand as if a million stars were trapped inside. Her eyes were so dark, the almost looked like black holes, except for the purple glimmer. "About time we met," she smiled creepily. She chuckled slightly, before looking at our hands. "Ahh, young love. But I'm afraid you're quite wrong Mr. Jay Rodriguez. That was Jim," she assured.
Jay raised me to my feet, "no,"
She raised her eyebrows sarcastically, "no? Oh well then, since you know so much about my magic," she scoffed. "I just take what's buried down deep, and rise it to the top. It seems that the truth is always under 6 feet of lies,"
I bit my lip, trying to muster up some courage. Something about this woman was just... Off.
Well gee Emily, maybe because she's a psychopath.
"What do you want?" I hissed, slightly stepping forward. "Oh you know, slaves, the earth, the Galaxy, the universe. To rule all you small brained mammals," she rolled her eyes, "not really. Too mainstream. Anyway, those are things villains want. I'm not the villain here," she said, completely sure of herself.
"Oh really? Yeah, my friend just didn't just go psychotic and hurt Emily with good intentions," Jay defended. "I'm sorry you're confusing nice with what's right," she said, making us sound stupid.
I furrowed my brow, "what?"
She sighed dramatically, "I want truth. You asked what I wanted. Truth. Truth is what's right, but that doesn't always mean that it's nice," she explained, smirking.
My breath hitches in my throat with a frightening thought. I understood what she was saying... And it made some sense. She continued, "it's not my fault that truth is also darkness,"
I shook my head, clearing my thoughts. "So I should just trust the darkness now, should I?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. At the words that left my lips, her expression changed. Honest confusion passed her face, "well, why shouldn't you. Honestly, how did no one ever see it before? Every single person feels safest in the dark, why do you think so sleep at night?"
Jay cleared his throat slightly, "holy crap, this is some kind of illuminati shit," he said in a low voice, then directed it at mystery bitch, "are you illuminati?" He joked.
"Always the one to put humor into any situation, huh?" She said slightly annoyed, "why don't we make the birdie fly?" She hissed, and with a flick of her wrist, a black cloud flung Jay into a wall, holding him in place. He let out a cry of pain, causing me to jump to my feet. "No let him go!" I shouted, feeling a growl escape my throat. "Who are you?" I continued. "Me? My name is Void. I was considering black hole, but Void just gives it that badass touch," she shrugged. "You're insane," I spat, "let Jay go," I finished with a snarl.
"Oh okay, so you would rather me let him free, and do the same thing to him as I did to Jim?" She smirked, a snarl creeping into her face.
"You bitch!" I screeched, lunging forward as a rabid dog. She flicked me aside, as if I were nothing. "Technically, you are an actual bitch right now," she said nonchalantly, obviously pleased with her pun.
"We've tracked you! We're on our way!" Someone shouted from our coms. "How sweet, the Brady bunch is coming. Now they can see who you really are. I can turn on your dark side of you want? Answer those questions Jay and Aida were chatting about," she hissed. Jay stared in shock, not looking me in the eye.
She let him go from the wall, to which he sprinted at my side.
Just then, they door burst open, everyone pouring in except for Natasha, Clint and Lea.
"Bird brain number two and spidergirl are probably busy with themselves now. I took care of them," she chortled, shrugging her pointy shoulders. "What have you done with them!" Steve shouted, fists ready to fight. "Relax, captain crunch. You'll have time to see," she sighed. "And you," she pointed directly at me, "we'll have many more chats," she finished with a wink, before sending a furry of black clouds swarming around the room.
The terrible whispers returned as the ebony air pulled us in all directions. A high pitch ring followed by a shatter alerted me that the Windows had blown in, fragments of glass hitting my skin. When the black most cleared out I found myself half way across the room. The ringing in my ears was subsiding, but now before a heard a gut retching scream.
"Aida no!"
That was Jay.
I couldn't see straight, but people were crawling and hobbling towards the window. Was that Jay half hanging out? Wait, I'm walking across the room, when did that happen?
I finally got my bearings at the window, when I felt the beat of my heart cease.
Aida was hanging on only by poor Jays arm, as she hovered outside the window. Tears were streaming down her face, when she whispered the soft words, "I don't want to die..."
And then her hands slipped.
