11. Control

After giving us a run through of the procedures in the lab, we headed to a dim room. I couldn't help but note the sturdiness of it.

A prison! My mind screamed. But I ignored it, and focused more on the dimly glowing honeycomb designs surrounding it. "Please take a seat," Simmons said, as she scribbled on a paper. We slowly sat down, Jim still not looking me in the eye. I sucked in a breath, before nudging him. "Jim I-"

"I see you're all settled," Coulson interrupted, walking in. I looked towards him, but could feel Jim still letting his gaze linger on me. "I say we begin," fitz said, pressing buttons on some equipment that had been here before we entered. "I'll go first," Jim said suddenly, and my eyes went wide. What's he playing at? Coulson smiled, "okay, let's see what you can do," he said. "Well, with ,y powers we might want to go outside," Jim nonchalantly stated. It was a small attempt at a sly escape. "I believe we need to stay in here. Protocol," Coulson replied. I could tell he wasn't stupid, he noticed Jims plan.

Jim gave a painfully fake smile. This might go terribly wrong. His arm shot out, and latched onto a ledge from a honeycomb on the ceiling. His body shot upward, and he began to shoot across the room. His body a lit of a mass, while his arms, like thread from a spider.

Fitz-Simmons ran around in awe, inspecting every inch of his super skin. Even Coulson looked mesmerized. A limb crept up by me, and bubbled words into the skin. When the door opens, run.

But the door wasnt- there. I saw a sneaky arm, typing on the currently unattended computer. My heart beat began to drastically increase. I was torn. Should I run? Or stay?

Just at that moment, the door clicked open. All his limbs retreated, and he grabbed my hand. "Ward!" Coulson shouted. A young guy with short hair walked through the doorway. Well, more like walked in with a gun the size of half my body. He was firmly built, and had a smirk on his face.

Jims face was scrunched in thought, that genius brain of his contemplating his chances. "Nice to meet you, I'm agent grant ward," he said. Jim sighed, knowing he was defeated.

"How'd you open the door?" Simmons gasped, as Fitz ran to the computer. His fingers blurred across the keyboard. "He hacked my system! I even had Skye reinforce the firewall!" Fitz stated, his mouth agape.

Coulson walked over, inspecting the computer. "Not only that, but some files have been downloaded," he checked the console, "onto what, though?"

Jim held up a small flash drive and winked. "The stretching was just a show. You're a genius," Coulson muttered amazed. Jim let out a gasp of surprise when ward suddenly yanked the flash drive out of jims waving hand. "Can't let this get out, can we?" He chuckled, a serious glare in his eyes.

"It seems we've underestimated you," Coulson said, "it won't happen again,"

"Thanks," Jim scoffed sarcastically. "Now, Emily, let's see what you can do," he said, taking a seat. I rolled my eyes, "it's nothing you haven't seen,"

First, I turned into a dog, and jumped over to Fitz who gave me a pat on my head; turned into a bird, and landed on Simmons shoulder; turned into a grizzly, and roared in wards face; and last but not least, turned into the infamous tiger, letting out another fearsome roar.

When I changed back to human, I leaned up against the wall. "Was that enough for you?" I said. "Yes, it was," Coulson said. "Scans are complete," Simmons said. Jim glanced towards me, "you scanned us without our permission?"

Fitz looked between Jim and Coulson, "it's just a scan. People get them at hospitals," he explained. Ward furrowed his brow. "Didn't know you guys needed that much privacy," he said.

"Yeah we do. It's not just a scan to us. Not with what we are. To us, it's a vulnerability. To let people like you, find out ways to stop who we are, to stop the only thing defending us," Jim said, his voice beginning to rise. "What's done is done," Coulson said quickly.

Jim didn't look satisfied, but released his clenched fist, and took a seat. I followed in suit. "Would you like to know how the powers work?" Simmons asked. "Enlighten us," Jim muttered. Simmons grimaced a little at his cold tone, but shook it off with a smile.

"For you Jim, I'm calling it cellular expansion. It's not just your cells stretching out, it's the way they do it. They rapidly reproduce, or clone, the cells next to it. Like. Starfish growing a new arm, but much more excelled, and retracting. But, unlike the possibility of a power that clones, you just add on to your current form," she explained, and by jims face, he was actually intrigued. But his jaw quickly set into stone, "and from this information, what have you gather in case you need to stop it?"

"I don't know yet... But something that will just stop your cells from cloning. Something to slow them down," she said, not looking them in the eye. He chuckled quietly, "guilt. I see it on your face. At least I know that if your experiments kill me, I'll haunt your dreams," he said. I gasped, nudging his arm. "Jim! What is wrong with you!" I said, with wide eyes.

When had he become so cynical?

His eyes seemed to clear from the murky darkness they had succumb to. "Sorry- I... I just," he shook his head and blinked multiple times. He looked at me with worries eyes, "that wasn't me..." He trailed, his voice quiet. Coulsons usual small smile was gone. "What do you mean, that wasn't you?" He questioned.

Jim clutched his head, an expression of agony foreshadowing his face. He cried out, "stop pressuring!" He screamed. "Jim, what's wrong?!" I shouted.

"You," he spat, his eyes turning completely black for a moment. The way he said it was with complete utter disgust. "You don't stop asking questions. Ugh, all these years I've had this burden just resting on my shoulders. Nagging me. I had no idea what it was. But now I know. Now I see the darkness in the false light," he looked upwards as if in revelation. "It's you. The constant buzz of a mosquito by my ear. I should've stop caring about you along time ago. Ever since I found out what you are. What you did," he shouted, his voice getting louder and his gaze getting darker. "Jim please! Stop!" I screamed my voice desperate.

"I was all you had! I should've seen the signs," his voice was turning raspy. The lights began to flicker, his body stretching out. He made moves towards me, his stretches fists aimed at my face. "Ward ice him!" Coulson screamed. "The icer! It's gone!" Ward shouted, scrambling about for the stunning gun.

"You. Were. Five," he spat slowly, and his body stretched like oncoming darkness shadowing over me. "What kind of five year old kills?" He said.

That's when I heard it. The sound of a gun, and a thump of the hit in jims body. I looked around to see who had finally iced him, to discover that is was me.

His body contracted, and as he lay on the floor, he spoke while he still had seconds of consciousness.

"What kind of five year old kills her own brother?"
