Chapter Five - Equal and Opposite reaction

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction -

I sat at the island having breakfast while, Emily made us some tea. I was still groggy after the nights events.

"Good morning." Ashley came in all chirpy

"Hey, Ash. That dress is criminal." Emily complimented as Ashley came to join my side

"Thank you. It's my dress to impress outfit . I'm hoping Victoria pays more attention to it than the disaster I made of her mother -daughter tea. You look rough."

"Missy here finished four bottles of wine last night. Found her passed out on the sofa. Ash those patient recordings had nothing to do with you. Victoria has to know that." Emily replied as i shifted my sunglasses up further.

"What the Queen does and does not know is a complete mystery to everyone but her and that creepy security good Frank. Oddly enough the asked about your potential involvement that mine." Emily poured and extra cup and handed it to her.

"My involvement? Because I want my sister embarrassing confessions about Daniel broadcast for all to see. Do I really give off the mean sister vibe?" she deflected

"No you don't, it's ridiculous. Speaking of Daniel, looks like he's back to his old ways." Ashley commented as I slid up my sunglasses "He came home absolutely tankard last night. Tyler had to practically carry him in."

"Oh, how noble. I'm going for a swim, be back in what a hour?" I leave and clear my head then lay out on the beach.

"So, what's my little girl withe the infinity tattoo up to today?" I heard Nolans voice interrupt making me huff and sit up.

"Thinking about filing a restraining order, why are you here?" I ask standing up and making my way back to the house, he follows like a lost puppy.

"Well, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black, are you drunk?" he questioned on our short walk back to the house.

"I'm hungover, well I was cold sea quickly got rid of that." I made my way inside to Emily on her laptop.

"So what irons are we throwing in the fire this week?" he wondered

"We're not throwing anything, anywhere. I have been for a swim and starting my day." I retort as Emily follows me.

"I thought you might say that. You know it wouldn't kill you to go back to being nice to me. Ems I can understand, but you...ouch." he put his hand to his heart as I handed Emily a towel knowing she would be going swimming.

"being nice isn't always apart of the plan."

"Certainly hasn't stopped, Liv slinking up to Daniel Grayson." Emily left the two of us.

"He is apart of the plan"

"Seems to me the best plan for him has a minimum of 12 steps." Nolan commented back.

"You know if you really wanted to help why didn't you have Jack cut him off before he got in such a state?" I question back.

"Not my fault. Daniels new sidekick was at the helm. The guy was feeding him shots like a frat boy to a freshman." I hummed understanding.

"Tyler. He's starting to become a problem, becoming more of an enabler than you are."

"Daniel doesn't seem to mind."

"Well I do, goodbye Nolan." I head upstairs for a shower once my hair was dry and my make up was done, I looked and felt much better. I noticed a figure on my porch, there was Lydia.

"Lydia hi." I greeted "How are you, it's been a long time."

"Not that long." she glided past me. "I want my house back." she glanced around as I gave her a confused look.

"Pardon me?"

"This cottage is one of the few things that still connects me to the life I lost the weekend that I met you. I hand picked nearly every piece of this decor in this place." Just then Emily arrived back. I shook my head at her as she was about to question what was going on.

"Which is impeccable which is why we paid double the asking price to make sure it came fully furnished." I answered

"I'm contesting the sale. I was technically on the deed and in despite of what you stumbled onto between me and Conrad at the South fork inn, my ex- husband had no legal right to sell." she turned back to me.

"We're sorry for what happened to you, Lydia. But the money from the sale should more than composite for your loss."

"What could a girl like you possibly know about loss?" she sauntered past me

"If you want to give us your new address. We'd be happy to pack up a few things for you and ship them." Emily cut in.

"I'm not here to get my things back, I'm here to get my life back. And no one least of all you two nosy trouble maker with a penchant for turning my world upside down is going to get in the way of that. We all have our South Fork in ladies . I just made it my mission to find yours." she walked out and I turned to my sister.

"I'll deal with this, I've already thought of a back up if one of them wasn't willing to take it easily." Emily nodded and went to take a shower. I went to our shared laptop and began creating a file, it was a treasure hunt and the prize was fake answers and a patsy. Do unto others and all. I printed articles about, Lydia, Bill Harmon, Dr Banks and Senator Kingsly. I added it to a box as well as a few other things of hers to fluff out and hide the paper work that my yet chosen chaser would find. It took a while but the box was packed up and labeled.

-------

Emily and I arrived at Grayson Manor for two reasons, me hoping to catch Daniel and 2. Victoria's luncheon. She greeted us on entry.

"Emily, Olivia. I'm so happy you've decided to join our weekly lunch. Ashley has continuously alerted me of both your interest in all my causes. It's a wonder we haven't cross paths before." she took both of our arms being in the middle of us. "Olivia, listen. I'm so sorry about you and Daniel, dear. The way he's been behaving lately perhaps its for the best." she let go of us to address her court.

"Do you have any idea what she's talking about?" I question my sister.

"Apart from what I told you about Daniel's wild night with Tyler, no."

"Thank you so much for coming today ladies...." the two if us sat down and gave a small wave to Ashley "Saturday's benefit for Open Arms is one of the seasons most important events because the magnitude of their outreach..." Ashley cut her off

"Mrs Grayson may I?" it wasn't really a question "As I'm sure most of you know Open arms always selects one charity to highlight at the gala. This year they'll recognise the hard work of the Victims' United outreach." I saw Victoria's reaction to the news didn't please her.

"Victims united?" Emily wondered

"Conceived in 1995 by the families of the passengers who lost their lives on flight 197. Their mission is to provide aid and counsel to the survivors of terrorisim in 63 countries around the world." Ashley explained

"What a wonderful cause." I complimented

"The Graysons were the ones who first endowed the organisation back in 1995, so Open arms has decided to honour them for their pioneering efforts." There was a small applause during which Lydia walked in unannounced.

"Congratulations Victoria. No one deserves this more than you." the look between them was steel like gaze. Though Victoria rose from her throne to greet the blonde.

"Lydia. I had no idea you were still doing work for Open arms." Victoria kissed Lydia's cheek "But more importantly, I thought you decided to summer elsewhere."

"What can I say. It was a decision I wasn't entirely comfortable with. And now my divorce is finalised, thank God,it's my full intention to return to the fold. If you'll have me of course."

"Of course. Michaels loss is our gain." Victoria's phone started to ring, she excused herself and we all broke off to talk.

"I smell a cat fight. Instigated of course." I comment to my sister then mingle with the other ladies. Victoria comes back to speak with Lydia and i take the chance to cut in.

"Lydia, what a surprise to see you again, twice in one day. I packed up some of your things and sent them too you." I smiled sweetly.

"You shouldn't have gone through the trouble." she then mulled something to Victoria and left.

"Twice in one day?" Victoria questioned me and I hummed

"Lydia came by begging for the house back. Apparently some mix up in the divorce settlement." I answered

"It's a fantastic piece of real estate. I forbid either you to let go of it."

"We have no intention, yet when I politely declined she practically threatened me." I brushed some of my hair back.

"A empty threat I assure you."

"I'm sure your right. I guess I'm still rattled by what happened wth Doctor Banks." I sighed

"It's safe to say we all are. It's hard to imagine that none of us saw a saboteur tampering with the DVD just before it was being played." Emily came to join us.

"I was saying the same thing to Emily when I was packing Lydia's things, what was it that you found a autograph?" I asked my sister

"Signed book, something about taking back control of her life." Emily shrugged it off.

"I didn't know Lydia was a patient of Dr Banks."

"Why would you? She was one of the few people whose sessions weren't exposed." I glance down at my watch "I hope you don't mind me leaving you with my sister, I have a international call to prepare for."

"Of course not." I left Emily to have her fun and returned home. It wasn't a lie, I did have a call I needed to do. I rounded the corner on the porch and there waiting for me was Daniel.

"You're home." he commented "I was beginning to question if you even lived here anymore." I took my keys out of my bag.

"Then we're even because I was beginning to think you'd lost my number." I counter back

"Actually I lost my phone. Tyler told me you cancelled dinner." my eyebrows furrowed

"What is he talking about. I came by to see what you like to eat." I rested a hand on my hip. Daniel shook his head.

"I'll kill him."

"Emily and I stared at a empty chair for two hours with intervals of me calling you looking like I'm a teenage girl again waiting for the popular boy to drive up to the party, then I finally accepted that you stood me up." I added making my way closer to him.

"Your chair didn't look so empty to me. I saw you and Jack through the window. I know I'm not proud of it."

"You saw Emily and Jack through the window." I told him and his head went backwards in shame "He came round with flowers and apologies for his adorable dog thats taken a shine to my sister and I. I took some food and went to watch a movie while the two of them talked."

"I am so sorry, Olivia."

"For the record. I made that dinner for you, I wanted you to come in and be with my family for once. Jack came by and the food didn't go to waste. That I'm pretty sure he has a thing for my sister, which I get if your not paying attention which clearly you weren't the assuming eye would mistake us from behind." I scoffed slightly

"I'm such a idiot."

"Yes you are." I confirmed "Look, I have to be on a call in five minutes but when I'm done how about we continue this conversation."

"Sure." I invited him inside and headed upstairs. Once I had finished my phone call I made him a drink and sat on the sofa.

"You know, I was supposed to start working for my Dad today, but couldn't do it." he told me

"Why not?" I question turning to face him fully and give this conversation my full attention.

"Because he's a philandering dirtbag and if I can't look at him, how am I supposed to work for him?" I hummed and scratched my head

"Are you sure your not using him being a philandering dirtbag as an excuse not to work for him?" I question

"It's not just that. I'm finally seeing him for what he really is. I think it's also that he now sees me for what I really am."

"And what's that?" I rest my head on my hand.

"Scared." he admitted "I guess."

"Yeah. It's a hell of a lot harder to disappoint your father than to let him know he disappointed you." I spoke absent kindly. Emily came home later on and Daniel apologised to her for the misunderstand and proceed that he would make it up before leaving.

"Looks like the little lamb came running home." she commented

"No thanks to the slithering snake whispering in his ear. Tyler was behind the whole thing, he told him, I cancelled and it wouldn't surprise me this Daniel's lost phone wasn't lost but hidden with all calls from me deleted." I scowled

"Specific."

"That's what I would do if I was a raging crazy woman. Lucky for Daniel I'm just a vengeful bitch, two completely different characters." Emily chuckled and shook her head.

---------

Furious banging interrupted me making something to eat. I opened the door as Emily came rushing down stairs and Nolan shoved past me.

"What the hell?" I ask

"Lydia Davis is on to the two of you." he breathed heavily and I took my sisters side.

"What are you talking about?" Emily wonders

"One minute she is pounding chardonnay and yelling at Conrad. The next she is staring at a photograph from the Grayson Party. She spent her morning calling catering companies asking about employee rosters from New Year's Eve Party back in 2003." he explained which only made us even more confused.

"How could you know all of this?" I asked

"Umm. I might've bugged your house." he admitted

"You what?" the two of us exclaimed and he backed up a little frightened.

"Look, I promised your father that I would look after the two of you. I mean look. You practically throw me out every time I'm here so it was the best way I knew how, and...I don't know how the camera ended up at Lydias." I covered my face for a moment.

"I shipped it to her. We have to get her hands on that photograph." I tell my sister

"Why? What as she stumbled onto?" I stared at Em who gestured to explain.

"A few months after we were released from juvie. I convinced Ems to join me catering an event for Grayson Global. I wanted to see for myself who these people were and as usual Emily was there to stop me from doing anything stupid." I explained

"Huh, I'm surprised you didn't go all ninja on them there."

"The event planner was called Consummate Catering. We need to to hack into their database find our names and delete it." Emily told him

"We're gonna be late for this party can you do it?" I ask him

"I'll try. But just in case you might want to whip up a story why billionaires Emily and Olivia Thorne used to be slinging champagne at coprate events."

"Try won't do, you have to do it Nolan. We didn't work as the Thorne sisters. Amanda and Tessa Clarke were. It was before we changed our names." Both of us finished getting ready and left for the gala. Conrad spotted us on our arrival.

"Good Evening ladies. If I had known you were coming, we could have all ridden over together." he stated with a charming smile.

"Maybe next time. Victoria, you look beautiful." I compliment

"As do the two of you." she kissed both our cheeks "Olivia, I don't suppose you've talked to Daniel."

"Yes, we cleared up our misunderstanding but if your wondering why he's not here this evening. I'm afraid it has more to do things at home rather than me." there was a small comontion behind us and I glanced back. Lyida had arrived which unsettled Victoria.

"Ashley will you show us to our table." Victoria requested

"Of course. If you'll follow me." they leave and I turn to Emily

"I'll go talk to her, you've hand enough cat fights for now." Emily glided over to talk to Lydia. I watch the two converse and that Lydia look like the cat that got the cream when my sister took out her phone after Lydia left. I made my way over to her.

"Alright we're heading over there." I heard her and she nodded to me, we went to leave but I stopped

"You might be solo on this one, Daniel came." I told my sister. Emily stared at me. "You and Nolan handle this, it's fine. Just be careful and no matter how much he annoys you, don't break his neck." I tell her.

"No, I'm not leaving you...what?" she went back to her phone "Fine I will text you the address, text me once you got it." she hung

"Daniel, you made it." I beamed as he came over

"Emily nice to see you again." he greeted my sister

"Hello Daniel."

"Shall we?" I nod and he escorts me away. We take our seats which is the table behind the Victims United Outreach table.

"Have I told you how beautiful you look tonight?" Daniel whispered in my ear. I smiled

"No but you can say it again." I grinned but kept my eye on Victoria. She received a phone call and I watched her step away. Whoever was on the other end didn't have good news, her posture tensed. I kept conversing with Daniel as she looked back and my gaze shifted to who. It was Lydia. My gaze turns to my sister who is also watching the exchange then turns to me for a moment. Victoria ends her call and glide to Lydia leaning into her ear and touching her arm. Whatever she says no one knows but Victoria returns to her table as Lydia steps on stage and opens her speech. Lydia stared at Victoria for a moment.

"Thank you all for coming here tonight." she began "So much can be said for the remarkable benefactors that I've been asked to introduce tonight. But knowing them as well as I do. I'm certain they would rather I recognise their charity instead. Please join me in honouring my dear friends Conrad and Victoria Grayson and the heroic members of Victim United outreach." there was applause and I raised a eyebrow to my sister joining in as Conrad and Victoria stood up for a minute then returning.

---------

I was mingling with the other guests when from across the room I watched Victoria and Lydia talk, it wasn't a happy one because Lydia looked like her whole world had irrepabley fallen apart. I broke off to talk to my sister.

"I don't know what she said but Lydia looks beyond devastated." I comment to Emily.

"Good." Daniel came over.

"It looks like I'm not the only Grayson getting cut off tonight. Charlotte just got arrested." he told me joining us.

"What?"

---------

Emily had gone to find Nolan, while I sat in the police station with Daniel. I was texting Nolan telling him to meet with Emily.

Your identities are safe, your welcome. - Nolan

"Everything okay?" Daniel asks

"Yeah. Sorry for the back and forth texting. Older siblings are nosy." I put my phone away and adjust his jacket that he had given to me.

"Emily is very protective over you." he observed

"I'm surprised you noticed, she's subtle." I joked making hims smile "Yeah, she is. Though sometimes she needs to be reminded that she's my sister not my Mom. Not anymore anyway." I shrug

"Are you going to tell your parents about Charlotte?" I wonder

"No. I mean compared to the rest of the secrets in this family. This is a drop in the bucket." he answered

"She's lucky to have you looking out for her. Even though she will never admit it and threaten to hurt you if you do. But don't tell Emily i said that" i pointed to him with a broad grin

"Cross my heart. And for the record she's not the only one looking out for you now." he tells me "So how do I look 100 million dollars lighter."

"How do you feel 100 million dollars lighter?" I question back

"Kind of liberated actually." I nod in understanding.

"Truth can do that. Who knows, one day your father might even respect you for it." I reply

"Till then we'll have to go dutch." I laugh "It's too bad your Dad isn't around to see the person you and your sister turned out to be. He'd be proud." he laced his hand with mine.

"Olivia?" I glance up seeing Jack who stared at us awkwardly

"Hi Jack." I greeted with a small wave but didn't rise up from my seat.

"Danny!" Charlotte exclaimed running over to her brother. Now we stood up as i saw a younger boy with him. That must have been his little brother. i vuegly remember Jack saying he was going to be a big brother before everything happened. Danny and Charlotte talked about the speed and how they thought the car was stolen. Jack asked how much it was going to cost.

"Not a thing." Daniel answered "They were just holding them to teach them a lesson. Olivia said she was family and they let him out."

"Thank you. I ...owe you one. Come on Dec." he replied

"Hey Jack." Jack turned back to Daniel "Now that you mention it, that bartending gig still open?" Daniel wondered

"Yeah why?"

"Turns out I need a job." Daniel shrugged. Oh wait till I told Emily. "Any chance you'd give me a shot?"

"Ugh, give me a call at the bar." he left with his brother and we dropped Charlotte off at home with Daniel inciting that he walked me back. I opened the door and dropped my things on the table.

"Your sister not home?" Daniel wondered

"She met up with a friend of ours, something super secret, maybe birthday plans or ninja assasin plans." I brushed it off "You really serious about taking the job at the Stowaway?" I ask but he pulls me into his arms

"Right now all I'm serious about is taking you to the bedroom." he told me

"Then what are you waiting for?" I ask then kissed him before pulling him upstairs.

-3rd person-

Emily met up with Nolan and went back to his, he loaded the footage while Emily looked at the picture that had her and her sister in the back ground as well as the list with their names.

"Ems. Look." Emily shifted her gaze to the laptop and the two of them watched as Frank attacked Lydia and the fight ensued before a terrifying scream. Emily picked up her phone to call her sister.

"Liv, pick up right now. Do you hear me right now." she stressed.
