The Gang?

"Hiccup, wake up!"

"Wha-"

"Mom said that if you make breakfast you can get your pencils back!"

Hiccup sat up quickly. "Really?"

"Yes, now come on!" Hanna tried to pull him out of his bed. Toothless stirred on his rock slab before warbling something and sneezing. The miniature Plasma Blast left a burn mark on Hiccup's bed post.

Hiccup got up and pat his dragon on the head. Toothless got to his feet, stretched, and yawned.

"Alright, I'm coming. But this better not be one of your ploys to try to get me to do your chore," he said as he put his leg on.

"It's not, I promise."

Hiccup walked out of his room, his sister jogging behind him. "Come on, Toothless," she spoke to the Night Fury. "Mom's got some left over fish for you, but if you don't hurry, Cloudjumper and Stonescale will eat it all."

The black as night dragon perked his ear-flaps before leaping over their heads and sprinting to the kitchen.

"Here you go. Knock yourself out," Valka said as she handed her son his prescious treasures.

Hiccup was almost jumping up and down with excitment, while Hanna yawned beside him. Once he had a good grasp on all of his writing utensils, he dashed into the Forge.

"Well, that's the last we'll be seeing Hiccup for a while," Hanna told her Dragon. "Wanna go for a flight?"

Stonescale groaned. "Are going to go and sp-"

Hanna quickly kicked him. "No!" she hissed.

"Hey, Hanna?" Hiccup called from the forge.

"Yeah?"

"Could you prepare a picnic for us? I want to eat in the sanctuary for lunch."

Hanna stared at him. "Why?"

Her brother shrugged. "Does there have to be a special reason?"

"Fine, I'll pack us a picnic before lunch time."

"Thanks!" Hiccup cried as he bowed his head to work on a drawing.

Toothless laid down right outside the forge, getting comfortable.

"Hey, mom?" Hanna spoke from atop her dragon.

"Yes?"

"Do you want to come out flying with Stonescale and I? It's been a while since we've flown together."

"Sure. Just let me grab my suit."

Valka ran out of the kitchen while Cloudjumper finished his meal. Stonescale made to snatch a fish, but the Stormcutter's massive tail blocked his path. The Hobblegrunt trudged back to his rider, blue with saddness.

Hanna chuckled. "Don't worry, Stonester. We'll make sure you eat before long."

The Dragon bowed his head before looking to Toothless. "Hey, you wanna come with? It looks like you won't be getting out for a while with your rider like this."

Toothless just stared at him, unamused. "Really?"

"What?" Stonescale looked at him innocently.

The Night Fury grumbled before laying back down.

"Don't worry, Bud. I won't be in here that long."

➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰

The roar of a Night Fury echoed through the Sanctuary. Hiccup and Toothless spiraled around the rock tower in the middle before soaring to the far side. They spotted Hanna and her Dragon lounging on a mossy rock atop one of the many grassy cliffs. Two waterfalls cascaded down from the heights of the Sanctuary on either side of them, casting spray into the air. Dragons of all sizes eyed the baskets of food Stonescale was guarding, some even daring to come close.

Toothless landed on the grass and Hiccup dismounted.

"Are you sure this is the best place for a picnic?" Hanna asked, shooing off two young Raincutters.

"Eh, we'll be fine," Hiccup said as he climbed onto the rock.

"So, how's progress on the new tail coming?" Hanna asked as she pulled forth from the baskets two fish salad sandwiches.

Hiccup took one. "Pretty good. I've prepared everything, and I've even started to make a few of the smaller parts."

"Cool. Anything new compared to the last tails? Well, besides the new fabric."

"Yeah, actually. I've decided to make a thin sheet of Gronkle Iron to put beneath the fabric, so if something happens to it, or it does burn, Toothless can still fly well enough to get us home." Hiccup took a bit into the sandwich. "So, how was your flight with Mom?"

"Great! You should have come! We flew all the way to Updrift Bluffs!"

"Really? How were the updrafts?"

"Great! But not as great as the Typhomerang we ran into! Man, that guy was absolutely halarious! You should've heard the jokes he told."

The twins continued to talk as they are their lunch, and even after that, when they both retreated to their notebooks.

"That's it, Stonster! A little to your left - no, your other left - there!"

"Hey, Hanna? Make sure you draw that Nightmare over there smaller than me."

The blue Monsterous Nightmare, which was only five feet away, whipped its head around and snarled.

"Heh heh," Stonescale took a step away from the angered Stoker class Dragon.

"Hey, Hanna," Hiccup stood up. "I think I'm going to get back to that new tail. See you later."

He mounted Toothless.

"Alright. Good luck with it," Hanna waved.

Hiccup took off, heading for the forge.

➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰

"Done!" Hiccup held up the brand new tail fin. Toothless lifted and cocked his head, interested. He stood up and began to circle his rider, sniffing the fin.

Hiccup opened the tail, showing off his craftmanship. The white symbol was in the middle, surrounded by red.

"Oooooooh!" Toothless warbled.

"You ready to put it on?" Hiccup asked.

His Dragon began to jump around the kitchen, excitement taking over. His tongue lolled out of his smiling mouth.

"Okay, just hold still."

Toothless calmed himself and laid his tail out over the floor. Hiccup bent down and unlatched the current tail.

"We'll keep this as your stealth tail," he explained, holding up the black prosthetic.

Hiccup then set the older tail on the ground and began to apply the new tail. When the last latch had clicked into place, he stood up.

Toothless wiggled his tail, looking at the update. "Whoa. It's so light!"

Hiccup nodded. "Yup. The sheet of iron in the middle makes it just heavy enough to work."

"Hiccup!" Hanna ran into the kitchen.

"What is it?"

"A few dragons just brought news of some Dragon traps that have been set on an island not far from here. They had already caught one Dragon when they were there."

Hiccup nodded. "Come on, Bud. Let's go." He mounted his Dragon before taking off into the sanctuary. He soared out into the open sky that was beginning to turn dark. Dusk was approaching.

Soon, he was joined in the air by his mother and sister, both leading the rest of the dragons from the sanctuary.

Hiccup took off. Being the fastest Dragon, his mom had given him permission to fly ahead of the group. He stayed just enough ahead so that he could still go in the right direction.

"The island is due South of here," a Monsterous Nightmare informed him. "It's flat with trees and has a sandy beach."

"Thanks!" Hiccup took off, flying close to the water.

"Hey, Toothless, I want to try something."

"Alright."

Hiccup clicked the new tail into an upward position. Toothless was thrown into a spiral that carved into the surface of the ocean like a drill going across wood. They shot forward until Hiccup clicked the tail back into position.

"Whoa," Hiccup said as Toothless regained his balance. "That was crazy, even for us!"

"Yeah, this new tail does wonders!"

"You're right. Let's put it to some good use!" He switched the position and they sped on in the direction of the island.

A few minutes later, it came into view. "There it is, bud," Hiccup said as they began to circle the island.

They spotted no boats or any evidence that supported that vikings were on the island.

"Hiccup, look," Toothless motioned towards the ground. "A Zippleback."

Hiccup looked into the forest and saw a green Hideous Zippleback caught in a Netter-trap.

"C'mon, Toothless."

They banked and soared down to the ground. They landed and Hiccup dismounted. He began to approach the two-headed Dragon with caution, both hands extended.

The Zippleback spotted him and immediately recoiled, hissing.

"Hey, hey, hey, it's okay. I'm a friend," Hiccup spoke to the Dragon soothingly.

"Do you think he has an eel?"

"I don't smell anything."

"Maybe he still has the eel," the two heads began to gurgle to each other.

"No, no, no, there's no eel. I don't have an eel," Hiccup said, walking forward.

"I think he's lying."

"Yeah, he probably is."

Hiccup stopped approaching the crazy Dragon. "Do I know you?" he asked.

The Zippleback looked at him. "Do you know us? I think so."

"Yes, you know us."

"Yeah, still have any eels?"

Hiccup looked at them, confused. "What are you talking about?"

"Um... We forget."

"Oh, gods," Hiccup mumbled. "Just let me get you out of that trap."

"Yeah, sure."

"By all means."

The small rider sighed before beckoning to Toothless. The Night Fury waddled over and helped his rider up. Hiccup unlatched the trigger and the net fell to the ground. The Zippleback scrambled to its feet.

"Okay, we better go and check to see if there are any other traps," Hiccup sighed before mounting his Dragon. They took flight, scanning the island.

"Look!" Hiccup cried, "down there!"

They spiraled to the ground where a blue Deadly Nadder lay, gnawing at a bola that had bound its feet and tail together.

When they landed, the Nadder's head shot up. "You again?!" it screeched, before spiking its tail and thrashing around, attempting to break the rope.

"Whoa!" Hiccup backed up. Toothless snapped into a battle ready position, his tail curved protection around his rider.

Finally, the rope snapped and the Nadder took a threatening stance, its tail curved, ready to shoot, and its wings raised. "What are you doing here?!" it snapped.

"What do you mean?" Hiccup asked. Toothless snarled.

"What she means is that you tried to kill her once," a voice next to his left ear said.

"Yeah, but don't take it personally; Stormfly's always like this," a voice in his right ear said.

Hiccup jumped. "What? You guys again?!"

The Zippleback stared blankly at him.

"Oh, gods," he facepalmed. "Stormfly? And I would never kill a dragon!"

"You didn't answer my question! What are you doing here, and how is it that you now know our language? And Barf, Belch," Stormfly turned to the Zippleback, "why aren't you attacking him!?"

"Hey, that's a good idea!" the Zippleback approached Hiccup, one head blowing a think green gas.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!" Hiccup cried, holding out his hands. "Why are you attacking me? I've done you no harm!"

"You threatened us with eels!" the Zippleback cried.

"And you were with the gang who tried to kill me! You specifically weren't really doing much damage, but still!" the Nadder screeched.

"Wait a minute," Hiccup thought. "You guys are two of the dragons Gobber had trapped for training!"

"You mean that idiot with a hook? Yeah, that was us."

"Really? Huh, small world," He mumbled. "So, are the others here too? The Gronkle, Terrible Terror, and Monsterous Nightmare?"

"Why should I answer that? You're the enemy!" Stormfly roared.

"No, I'm not! I'm a Dragon Rider. I come from the Dragon Sanctuary. I flew away from Berk with my dragon, Toothless. I was learning all about dragons during training, both from Gobber, and from Toothless. I'm a friend to dragons, and I'm sorry for the harm I caused you in the arena, but I was trying to help. The other Vikings wouldn't have shoved an eel in your face, they would have shoved a sword or hammer in your face. I'm sorry for what I've done to you in the past, and I'm here as a friend."

Stormfly looked at him, and then at Toothless, who nodded. "Well then, uh, yeah, I'll answer your question now. Hookfang and Meatlug are here, somewhere, but Smalltail, he was shot down during our escape, he - he didn't make it."

"Oh. I'm so sorry."

There was silence.

"Well. This has gotten boring," the Zippleback gurgled.

"We should probably go and find Hookfang and Meatlug," Stormfly said, lifting into flight.

"Right. Lead the way," Hiccup mounted his Dragon once again and took to the air. Stormfly flew up above the trees, Toothless trailing her and Barf and Belch bringing up the rear.

Eventually, they spotted Hookfang, an orange Monsterous Nightmare, lounging on one of the beaches. They grabbed him and took flight once again in search for the brown Gronkle.

They finally found her, struggling to shake her tail loose from a malfunctioning bola trap. One end had wrapped around the bulge in her tail while the other was still inside the trap.

"Meatlug!" Stormfly cried, soaring down to her friend.

"Oh, thank gosh, Stormfly. I'm caught in this trap, and I can't get unstuck! I'm so afraid that - what's he doing here?!" she cried, baring her teeth in an effort to look mean. It had fooled Hiccup before, in the arena, but now he wasn't so sure.

"Don't worry, Meatlug, I'm a friend. Here, I can get you out of there."

Hiccup approached her slowly. When it seemed like she wasn't going to attack, he grasped her tail and undid the rope. When it had fallen to the ground, the Gronkle shook her tail.

"Thanks! So, what are you doing here?"

Hiccup explained how he had shot down Toothless and how he had befriended him, and how he had flown away when he realised he had accidentally come first in Dragon Training. He explained how he found his family, and what his life was like now. All the while Meatlug had begun to lick pebbles up off the ground.

When he had finished, Stormfly spoke up, "We've heard about the Dragon Sanctuary in our travels, but we've never considered living there."

"I think it's be a great idea!" Meatlug said, "I can meet other Gronkles and I can only imagine the selection of rocks they have there! Plus we'll have the protection of many and -"

"And there'll be lots of stuff to blow up..." the Zippleback heads looked at each other.

"There will be no blowing things up!" Stormfly cried.

"There will probably also be lots of places to bask too!" Hookfang chimed in.

"Hiccup! There you are! We've been all over the island looking for you!"

Hiccup looked up and saw his family flying above him. Hanna and Stonescale descended, landing next to the group of dragons.

"Who's this?" she asked.

"These are the dragons who were being trapped on Berk when I was there. This is the Nightmare I was supposed to kill."

"Whoa, really?"

"Yeah. And they want to come back to the Sanctuary with us."

"Alright, well, Mom and I've disabled and disposed of all the traps. We're ready to go."

Hiccup mounted Toothless as Stormfly raised her wings.

"Are you ready, gang?" she asked.

The dragons all roared before lifting into flight, a certain Night Fury and his rider leading the way.
