Chapter 14

The ride was long and silent, your eyes watching your palms intently. His voiced echoed in your head as you flexed your trembling hands. The man of your nightmares sat next to you, his arm slung loosely over your shoulder as though to deepen the fact you were now his property. His breath soon rank of booze, the glass limp in his hand as alcohol splashed over its sides. "Oh come on Kitten," he sang drunkenly. "Loosen up a little. I don't like my slave stiff as a board."

His gaze lowered on your chest and a impish grin extended over his face. "Besides, this might be one of your last chances to choose yes."

You jerked your shoulder away from him and zipped up your jacket. His brow set in a grimace as he growled at you. "I wouldn't have guessed you were such a shrew."

"You agreed to the terms." You said bluntly. "Today, and for the first week of my working here, you can not make any unprofessional moves toward me with no repercussions. If you plan to act so, you have to  wait until the allotted time is over with."

He pouted, looking at you with mock pity. "Oh yes, your 'probationary' period for adjusting." His hand stroked gently through your hair, securing a lock of hair and twirling it methodically around his finger. "Ah, only but a week before life will return to order."

You remained silent as you looked at the package in your lap. It was the very symbol of your shackles, but there was only so much a canary could do to escape the confines of its cage. Your eyes were clouded in tears as your mind slowly regressed into the numbness that had almost always veiled your thoughts. Your body waved in your seat as the car arrived at the pearly gates of an estate too large for you to ever comprehend. "Aw!" Your captor yelled loudly. "We've arrived at your new home dear Kitten. My girls will show you the way to your quarters."

As he opened the doors, you winced at the flow of pure light. Two long rows of girls stood parallel to the steps leading to the front doors, each young face faking enough joy to last another day. "Welcome back Mr. David!" They welcomed in unison.

"Hello ladies!" He yelled, offering you a hand to which you batted away promptly. His face fell into a frown but he continued on all the same. "I've brought you a new sister to help you in your chores! I know it can just be so difficult to care for the house sometimes. Do not worry though, she has been in this field years! she's been very well..." His eyes glimpsed towards you, lips curling in an almost disgusted way at your attire, "trained."

Clapping sharply, he barked out the name Destiny and forward came a young girl wearing a uniform identical to the one hanging over your arm. "Yes Mr. David?" She asked lightly.

"Please show (Y/N) to her quarters. I must insist she change from those wretched rags as soon as possible. And see to it she is informed of the upcoming ball to be held. That will be all."

"Understood." She nodded robotically before turning to me. "Please follow me."

You nodded in mute, saddened gaze lowering to her feet as you brushed past Mr. David. His firm grasp snapped around your arm and you winced, looking back at him with a toxic mixture of emotion in your glare. "I can't wait to see you in your element." He mocked. "But do try to smile. You're much prettier when you smile."

Without a word you pulled your arm from his hand and rushed to catch up with the girl destiny. She was a youthful girl with skin like milk chocolate. Her hair was pinned into two high pigtails, short bangs overhanging her dark green eyes. She was of petite size, a small hop in her step as she led you into the winding labyrinth of a home.

After not too long, she opened a door for you and allowed you to enter before her. "These are the servants quarters." She informed you briefly, her grin slipping as soon as the door shut. "Your bed is in the far left corner. You can keep your old clothing beneath your bed if you like, none of us maids will touch it if you wish."

You nodded and walked to your bed in a sort of daze. As you sat, your eyes lifted and looked around the vast room before you. Rows upon rows of beds stretched across the room with lamps dangling from every other bed post. There were only two doors connected to the room, one being the entrance and the other, based on the clatter of pots and pans, most likely leading to the kitchen.

You slouched on your bed, covering your face with shaking palms. "Dammit..." You muttered.

Destiny stood at the end of your bed and smiled apologetically. "I-I'm sorry you were brought here. It seems like you had just tasted freedom..." She mused gently. "If there's anything I can do for you, I'll be two beds down. If you can't find me, look for a short girl: red hair, blue eyes, freckles and really really pale skin. She might be able to help. Her name is Caitlin."

You tried to smile but could only managed to sigh as you stood and began to strip away your clothing to change. In your previous work, none of your bosses had bothered with changing rooms so you were used to it. Your dull gaze found Destiny's sympathetic smile and you nodded. "Thank you... Destiny. I'll, uh, keep that in mind." You reassured.

"No problem Miss..."

"Just call me (Y/N)." You said bluntly.

Pulling the uniform over you, you twisted your arms behind you expertly and tied your sash. Your hands feld to tuck your skirt and knocked the dust from your dress. With two black ribbons, you split your hair and tied it in two low pigtails that fell over your shoulders. (If you have short hair, you tied it on a bow atop your head.)

After pulling on your frilly socks and strapping on your shiny shoes, you walking briskly past Destiny who was watching you in awe. "(Y/N), Mr. David pardoned your work for the first week here. Why are you putting on your uniform?" She asked.

"The sooner I go back to my fate, the sooner I can forget the stupid dreams I planted in my own head." You barked, voice sounding hollow as you located a mirror to critique your outfit.

As you stopped before it and looked into the polished glass, you found yourself paralyzed instantly. Your breath caught in your lungs as you watched a tear roll promptly down your cheek. Your hand rose to your face, wiping away the liquid and then watching as it trickled down your palm.

Destiny stood dumbfounded as your wiped your tears furiously and cleared your throat. "I'll take the spare rooms in the D Wing until you can properly arrange my place among you all here." You ordered.

Turning you escaped through the exit, walking in the halls but not even having a clue where you were going.

Why does it hurt so much when freedom was never really mine in the first place?

My fist slammed down on the desk, anger following through me faster than ever before. Lil' Pup sat crying into Papyrus' shoulder as I stood before Asgore yelling.

"What the hell do you mean? 'We won't do anything'?! What kind of bullshit do you think you're spouting boss?!" I screamed, eye flickering impatiently.

"I meant exactly what I said." Asgore said calmly, brow furrowing and he cradled his forehead in his palm. "We can't do anything for her now, especially if she went by choice."

My fist slammed down against his mahogany desk, splinters littering the floor as I began to pace. "Asgore she didn't go 'by choice!' Were you even watching?! That guy clearly was using something or someone against her! We need to save her! She just got out of that business if she goes back now she can't be returned to society ever again."

"Then I suppose she'll be damned!" Asgore snapped. "Sans, we barely have the power to keep our own syndicate afloat! Expending our resources on the retrieval of one human is suicide for both her and us! Did you really not see? Whoever that was had the power to cause Kitten to turn against Frisk. That means if we intervene or if we don't only effects how much she suffers."

"We can't leave her! What if he's torturing her? Or worse! She's our friend Asgore!"

"She's a colleague." Asgore said solemnly. "Eventually she will be replaced... I'm sorry old friend but this is what is best for our home."

I was lost in venomous rage with sudden calm swept over me. Asgore seemed to catch on quickly, looking at me in concern. "Sans?" He asked quietly. "Are you-"

"I'm sorry sir, but if I can't rely on you to help us save our friend, then we don't have any buisness furthering our time together." I said coldly. "I'm leaving the syndicate. I'll find her myself if I have to."

"Sans! You can not just leave! We need you here!" Asgore argued.

"And (Y/N) needs me now!" I barked. "If you're only going to get in the way I'll find someone else to help me, but I am not letting Kitten go just like that. She has people waiting for her to come back."

Asgore fell quiet as his tired eyes met my enflamed gaze. A heavy sigh fell from his chest and he began to laugh, taking me off guard. "Sans, you truly surprise me some times." He cooed, laying a hand against my shoulder. "You really care for Kitten, don't you?"

"He's not the only one sir!" Papyrus chimed in. "Kitten swore to me she'd teach me how to make a dish called 'lasagna,' but if she's kidnapped we can't do that!"

Frisk whimpered quietly, turning his head to look out at Asgore with pleading eyes. Maybe there was a reason to call him Lil' Pup.

"Asgore," he begged. "Please bring my big sister back. She's always taken care of me... even when we just met she treated me like I was the best thing to happen to her. We have to bring her back! W-We have to..."

I grinned, smirking at Asgore as he looked at us. Sighing, he picked up his phoned and dialed a number before muttering into the receiver and hanging up. "Boys, I think that if I've made a decision. You see, without the presence of Kitten I notice turmoil begins to ensue. I believe that as the situation currently stands, the best course of action is to pursue and recapture our Negotiator." He said authoritively.

We started to cheer but he cut us short with a snappy, "However, I refuse to send my syndicate into oblivion over one agent."

After brief confusion, I grit my teeth and shook my head. "Asgore make up your mind! Will you or will you not help me rescue (Y/N)?" I asked.

"I will not. However, I do know a few people who will on my stead." He offered.

The door flew open as though cued in script and in walked none other than Captain Undyne and the Royal Guard. At their side flooded the friends that Kitten had made, each smiling broadly as though they'd been preparing for this since the day they'd been born.

Asgore chuckled as he shuffled through the files in his desk, removing a file labeled only by the small sticker of a black cat on its tab. Removing a sheet from it, he read it silently before nodding and flipping it towards me.

"Sadly, I do believe her contract won't be over for a few years." He lulled sarcastically. "I guess we'll have to take back over Negotiator until she completes her time."

I smiled broadly and looked at the group that gathered to help us save Kitten. Adrenaline pumped through me and I pulled aside an old friend from an old job. The trembling puddle of anxiety yelped sheepishly as I took her arm and looked at her. "Doctor, we're gonna need your helping finding her. You think you can do it?"

She started to respond but a stutter overtook her words and she nodded.
