Sister
Hanna was soaring through the clouds. She had been up here with her best friend for hours.
"Stonescale, we should probably go back. Mom might be worried about us," she spoke to her Hobblegrunt.
"I doubt it. When have you ever gone out flying with me and not come back more than three hours later?"
Hanna laughed, "True, but we've been up here for five and a half hours straight. Aren't you tired?"
"A bit, but I've gotten used to being up here that long. Thanks to you."
"Wow, you make it sound like I force you to stay up that long. Alright, lets go back. We have to go back anyway if we want to have dinner on time. There's no way I'm going to let Mom make dinner again."
"Yeah, you sure learned your lesson about staying out too late," Stonescale said as he banked to his port side and started flying southwest towards the sanctuary.
As soon as the familiar giant spikes of ice came into view, a scream-like roar echoed across the water. It said nothing, but the tone was pure happiness. Hanna had never heard that roar before. Normally, as soon as she heard a roar she could tell what type of dragon it was coming from. But not this time. She had no idea what had made that sound.
As she got closer to her home, she noticed a black spec swooping between the spikes. She was about to tell Stonescale to head for the clouds, but he read her mind and they spiked upwards.
"Stonester, are you afraid?" Hanna taunted her dragon.
"No, what makes you say that?"
"You've turned black." Indeed, Stonescale's scales had turned jet black, indicating fear. The Hobblegrunt groaned and Hanna smoothed his crown fin down, which had stuck straight up. It was an instinct Hobblegrunts had to make them appear bigger.
As Hanna smoothed the fin, he turned a light blue, but soon switched to a deep blood red, showing confidence and protection. His fin expanded in challenge as they flew closer to their home. The black spec, a dragon, had begun to fly very fast, faster than any dragon Hanna had ever seen before. It gained height before diving down in a continuing spiral. As it neared the water, Hanna exclaimed, "It's going to crash!" No dragon could pull out of that dive now, it was too close to the water.
But, to Hanna's amazement, the dragon pulled up and spread its night black wings to catch the updrafts. It soared up to the clouds effortlessly. Hanna was speechless.

Hiccup was flying just below the clouds, enjoying the wind in his hair. He could stay up here forever. Toothless was soaring in a continuous loop around the island. Neither of them wanted to go in yet.
Suddenly, Toothless' head shot up and he spread his ear flaps. He warbled ominously.
"What? What is it bud?" Hiccup asked, but that question was soon answered. A smaller, deep red dragon burst through the clouds about twenty meters in front of them. It dove down and came up right in front of them. The dragon glared at them while trying its best to hover in front of them. Then, it's eyes widened and the dragon, a Hobblegrunt, turned a bright yellow and almost fell out of the sky.
That's when Hiccup noticed there was a girl on the dragon's back. She had bright red hair that was braided and curled into a bun on the back of her head. The many strands that hung lose were swept behind her in the wind. She had emerald green eyes - his eyes.
"Hanna?" Hiccup asked the stranger. The girl tilted her head in confusion. Hiccup almost facepalmed. Hanna doesn't know Norse. So, he tried again. "Hello."
Hanna stared back at him. "Hello," she said warily. Her dragon, which Hiccup assumed to be Stonescale, unsurly grumbled. He had turned a lavender purple. Hiccup realized that to this girl, he was a complete stranger and she probably wasn't going to lead a complete stranger into her home. So, Hiccup decided to lead.
He turned Toothless and they began to fly towards the sanctuary. They flew casually, so not to alarm the pair, but that didn't work. Hanna swooped down in front of them. Toothless roared in surprise and dropped to get around them, but Stonescale sent a stream of fire coming their way.
Toothless swerved to avoid it then spun around ready to fire a plasma blast.
"No, bud, don't shoot!" Hiccup put a hand on his companions head. Toothless swallowed the gas and looked up at him. Hiccup smiled back. Suddenly, a stream of fire rushed past his left elbow. Toothless swerved to avoid it, but they weren't fast enough.
Hiccup heard a sizzle and he looked back. The prostatic tailfin had lit and nothing Hiccup did to steady them worked.
"Great," he said as they began to plummet towards the ground. Where was he going to find material to make a new tailfin?
Then, just as they were about to crash to the ground, Hiccup felt something large grasp him and pull him up. He looked up to see Cloudjumper's belly, his mother standing atop the large dragon. Toothless roared from the other talon.
They heard a roar above them as Hanna jumped over to Cloudjumper. Hiccup realized that she was talking to Valka.
"Mom, what are you doing? That stranger with his strange dragon tried to get into the sanctuary!"
Valka set Toothless and Hiccup down inside the sanctuary. Hiccup dashed to his dragon. "Bud, are you okay?" he asked. Toothless gave him a toothless smile and Hiccup hugged his neck.
"That stranger is your twin brother, Hiccup, and that strange dragon is his Night Fury, Toothless," Valka told her as she walked down one of her dragon's many wings.
"Nig - Night Fury? So they really do exsist?" Hanna asked, following her mom.
"Um hm," Valka nodded. "Hiccup, are you okay?" she asked the boy who was holding the singed rods of Toothless' tail.
"Yeah, but Toothless' tail isn't. I'm going to need to make a complete new one."
Valka walked forward to examine the tail. Hanna tried to follow, but at the sight of her Toothless curled around his rider, spread his wings and roared.
"Whoa, boy. I'm not going to hurt you," Hanna grumbled soothingly.
"Me? You tried to kill Hiccup! You aren't coming any closer to him!" Toothless roared threateningly in her face.
"Calm down, bud. She didn't understand who we were then. She won't hurt us now." Hiccup walked out from under his dragon's wings and put a reassuring hand on his snout. Toothless lowered his wings and nudged Hiccup in the ribs. Hiccup continued to rub his dragon's head.
"Mom, what's he saying? Why doesn't he speak dragonese and what's he doing here?" Hanna asked as Stonescale strutted towards her.
"He's calming Toothless down. Also, its a long story. Why don't I explain it to you while you're cooking dinner?" Valka said as she led the three dragons and two teens down the hall towards the kitchen.
As Hanna prepared and cooked dinner, Valka told her everything her son had said, with Toothless butting in with corrections every now and then. Hiccup felt a bit awkward listening to his story but not being able to understand any of it.
When Hanna walked over to his dragon to examine Toothless' rigs, Hiccup assumed that they had gotten to the part where he flew the Night Fury for the first time. Valka leaned over to him.
"Hanna's really impressed with your work and she's sorry she destroyed Toothless' tail," his mother told him.
"Eh, tell her it's okay. I can always make another one," Hiccup shrugged.
When dinner was ready (fish stew) they sat at a wooden table to eat. Hiccup had never tasted a better fish stew, and the dragons helped themselves to the scraps. Stonescale, being the smallest, got the fish that had already been down the other two dragons gullets.
After dinner, Valka spoke to Hiccup, "Before you turn in, I want to teach you a bit more Dragonese."
"Okay, sure," Hiccup said.
After about ten minutes, Hiccup approached Hanna.
"Hello, Hanna, my sister."
Hanna smiled and responded, "Hello, Hiccup, my brother."
