Back to Berk
"So, what's Berk like?" Hanna asked as she soared up towards Hiccup and Toothless.
"Well, ya know, it's rocky and wet... Oh, and the forests are amazing!"
"Sounds..." She paused, searching for the word, "lovely."
"Yeah. it's not great," Hiccup said. He was barely listening to her. He always thought that when he ran away, he wouldn't come back at all. But here he was, a month from when he left, the wet heap of rock looming on the horizon. He wondered how his father was. Wait, his father...
"Hiccup, are you okay?" Hanna asked when she noticed he had stopped Toothless.
"Yeah, but, I don't think we should go here."
"Why not?"
"Well, we might see my father. Our father," Hiccup looked at her.
"So?"
"Well, it's one thing going behind your mother's back and spy on your home island, it's another to go and spy on your father that your mother has hidden from you for all your life," Hiccup explained worriedly.
"Well, we're not going to spy on our father, we're going to spy on your crush," Hanna said.
"I guess, but we'll probably see our father, and that sounds like something you should do with mom," Hiccup worried.
"Stop being such a fun killer," Hanna complained, "The deal was, we go spy on Darius, then off to Berk to spy on Astrid. Come on Hiccup! Even if we do see our father, big deal! I have to see him sometime!"
"I guess your right," Hiccup gave in, "C'mon, follow -," he broke off when he laid eyes on what was in front of him.
Toothless warbled a mix of question and begging. "Please?" his voice dripped with longing and his eyes had lit up with excitement.
Hiccup just stared ahead. "The sea stacks," he breathed. All of those memories rushed to his head. Lounging atop of them in the mid afternoon sun, the first time he really flew Toothless, all of those fun times they had together, creating new tricks and discovering what new world they had unlocked together. He had missed this so much since they left.
The air had grown silent. The morning sun glinted against the water below them as Hanna wondered what they were going to do next. This place, these towers of rock, obviously meant something to these two.
Hiccup absentmindedly clicked the tail into position. The noise cut through the scilence like a knife. For a moment there was no sound at all. And then, Toothless shot forward and let out a roar of happiness.
The two spiraled upwards before falling back down, catching the up drafts right before they would have crashed. They took off into the maze of pillars with amazing speed, spinning and twirling, flying upside down and sideways. The sight was utterly awesome.
They climbed up the side of a stack, literally inches from the rock. When they reached the top, they began skimming the tops of the towers, flying at speeds no other dragon that size could achieve. They were nothing more than a black blur, speeding across the skyline.
A while later, they slowed and landed on a sea stack. Hanna had landed Stonescale on one so he could rest his wings, and now they were back in the air, flying towards the pillar her brother was on.
"Hanna!" Hiccup exclaimed, "Oh my gods I'm so sorry! I completely forgot you were here. I'm so sorry!"
"It's okay. I enjoy watching you fly. It's amazing."
"Thanks," Hiccup said, "Still, I shouldn't have ditched you like that."
"Honestly, it's fine. This place obviously has some sentimental value to you."
"Yeah, Toothless and I would come here to fly. These provide the best obstacles to practice high speed maneuvers, and the cliffs make it so no one can see us," Hiccup nodded towards the isle of Berk, the entire side a sheer cliff face. "Plus, this is where I flew him for the first time." Hiccup smiled and Toothless returned the gesture. Hanna giggled.
"Come on," Hiccup got up and back on Toothless, "Let's go."
They flew just beneath the lip of the cliff, Hiccup scanning the side for a cave entrance.
"There!" Hanna cried. Hiccup looked and saw the cave he was looking for.
"Thanks, follow me. And stay close."
Toothless dove down and swooped into the cave.
"Okay, Bud! Do your thing!" Hiccup roared. Toothless roared, using his echo location skill that they discovered he had a week ago. They had been exploring some of the deeper tunnels in the sanctuary and had gotten lost. Toothless roared, the sound bounced back, and they were able to get out.
Stonescale followed Toothless as he flew through the dark cave. After a couple minutes, they spotted light ahead and flew out of the tunnel into the forest.
"You muttonheads!" a voice echoed through the trees, "The dragon went that way!"
Branches rustled and Toothless and Stonescale shot up the closest tree. They were able to hide behind the leaves just as a bickering Astrid barreled through the bushes. The twins followed behind, arguing with Astrid, and then against each other. Then followed Snotlout, bullying a timid Fishlegs as always.
"Astrid, quit bossing us around. You never killed the dragon, and even if you had, you still wouldn't be in charge!" Ruffnut complained.
"What? She never killed the dragon?" Hiccup asked quietly.
"You mean the one you were supposed to kill?" Hanna asked from the other limb.
"Yeah. Shhhh," Hiccup shushed her as Astrid started speaking again.
"Okay, number one, the dragons escaped during that raid, and number two, I still came in first, so yes, I'm in charge," Astrid said, examining the ground.
"Technically, Hiccup came in first," Fishlegs pointed out.
Astrid growled, turned, and threw the ax she was holding at the tree Hiccup and Hanna were in. They heard the tree crack at the impact, and it began to split down the middle. Stonescale and Toothless took flight, just as Astrid looked up.
"Night Fury!" she cried as the two halves of the tree hit the ground. "Take it down! It's mine!"
Taking her ax from the fallen tree, she threw it through the air. The dragon swerved before flying higher.
"Snotlout!" Astrid cried.
"On it!" Snotlout aimed the cross bow loaded with bolas, and shot. Meanwhile, the twins each had a bow and arrows, but neither was shooting.
"Get out of my way!" Ruffnut exclaimed.
"Get out of my way!" Tuffnut shot back.
Ruffnut grabbed an arrow from her quiver, dropped the bow, and began hitting her brother with the arrow. Tuffnut tried to grab his while Ruff continued batting away.
"OW-WO-OWO!" he exclaimed.
"Guys!" Astrid called.
"What?" they looked up from their fight.
"The Night Fury and other dragon are heading towards the village! We have to go!"
"Actually, that other dragon is a Hobblegrunt. Speed four, shot limit 13, attack-"
"FISHLEGS!"
"Coming! I'm coming!"
➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰
"Stay down," Hiccup told Hanna.
"Okay," she said confidently.
The flew directly over the village, being sure they were safely hidden atop their dragons. That was when Hiccup heard a familiar horn be blown.
"Oh gods please no," he mumbled under his breath.
"DRAGON ATTACK!"
"Great," he said, "Hanna, we have to leave."
"Completely agree with you there, Hiccup!" She was looking down at the angry Vikings, holding all sorts of weapons, ready to fire.
Hiccup looked back up to see storm clouds forming.
"Come on!" He exclaimed as Toothless shot away. They reached the ocean, but looked back to see Hanna and Stonescale far behind them.
"We have to go back and get them," Toothless warbled.
Hiccup nodded before flying back towards the village. He shot a warning blast at the Vikings, so Hanna could climb up into the sky. Once she reached the clouds, Hiccup dashed up after her.
"We'll be safer up here," she was gasping for breath.
"Come on, we have to leave," Hiccup led their flight out to sea.
Out of nowhere, an ax hurtled towards Toothless. Roaring in surprise, he quickly dodged.
Hiccup heard Astrid shout below, "I know your up there, Night Fury! I will have your head for stealing the love of my life!"
Hiccup almost fell off of Toothless. Had he heard her right? Probably not; he was so used to Dragonese by now. But something nagged at him, telling him he had heard her right.
They kept flying. They weren't far out when Hiccup saw the first flash of light from the clouds. Soon, the entire sky was lit up, and a torrential rain had began to pound them back in the direction of Berk.
Toothless couldn't fly strait. The lightning seemed to come directly at him.
"We have to go back," Hiccup roared over the storm.
"Completely agree with you!" Toothless roared.
Hanna nodded, and they turned back around.
"Follow me! I know the perfect place to go!" Hiccup roared before flying towards the direction of the forest.
