Part 17

November brought cold chills in the year. You could find students always wearing their robes, huddling with their friends to find some warmth. Hermione conjured a blue flame that she kept in a jar and kept it close to her and those who needed warmth.
It was currently afternoon, and the group of friends were outside, relaxing before their next class. Early that week, Ron had come over to them and apologized to Hermione and the Slytherins, saying he judged them wrong and that was wrong of him. The Slytherins he had picked on looked at him skeptically, but Harry and Hermione forgave him right away. They explained to them that Ron had seen his mistake and was trying to be better. There was no other reason to still be angry with him. Ron had literally jumped on Harry to thank him, luckily he let go real fast seeing the glares from Draco. The twins couldn't be more proud of their younger brother. He started to hang out with them a little, but not much. But right now, the group was staring at Fred and George as if they had grown another head.
."...What?"
Fred and George rolled their eyes.
"There's a-"
"three-head dog-"
"on the third-"
"floor in a-"
"room."
"Why would there be a Cerberus on the third floor?" Hermione asked.
"Dunno, it was-"
"just there."
The twins were explaining how they had investigated the third floor, ran from a near encounter with Flich and his cat, and found the enormous dog behind one of the doors. They quickly left when it growled at them.
"Was it standing on top of something?" Draco asked. He had become comfortable with the group (though he would never say it or fully show it).
The twins nodded.
"It seemed-"
"like a trap door."
"Maybe it's guarding something?" Harry hesitantly asked.
Hermione nodded in thought.
"Yes, that would explain why there was the beast there. But what?"
"That beast sounds like something the gatekeeper would like," Draco scoffed. With that, Hermione's eyes lit up.
"That's it! Maybe we could ask Hagrid. When's your next visit Harry?"
"Um- maybe after the Quidditch match." Hermione nodded but accepted the answer.
"Dear old Hermione."
"The thirst of her brilliant mind making her so impatient she can't hold it in," the twins teased. Hermione huffed and got up, leaving for her classes with the group following as they laughed.
The next day, it was very chilly. Yet, despite the cold, the school was excited. It was finally Quidditch season. The first match between Gryffindor and Slytherin was today, which was the most exciting match every year due to their rivalry. This also meant that the school would finally know that Harry was the Slytherin seeker. Harry was...feeling emotions that he wasn't really familiar with. Part of him wanted to jump up and down and scream and run, yet a part of him wanted to curl up in a ball. He knew these feelings were excitement and nervousness, but they were still foreign.
"Harry, are you excited for the game?" Neville asked. Harry gave him a shaky smile.
"Yeah, but nervous. This is my first game." Nobody noticed what he was referring to.
"Don't worry, Harry dear, I assure you, this will be the most exciting thing you have ever seen in your life," Draco said dramatically. Harry shook his head fondly and sighed, playing with his messy black hair. Next to him, Hermione was having a conversation about Quidditch with a Ravenclaw named Terry Boot who was obsessed with the game. But it was nowhere near the level of the Gryffindor caption, Oliver Wood, from what he had heard from the twins. Honestly, he felt bad for them after hearing the stories. But he was glad Hermione was opening up to more people. She was mostly closed off to people who weren't in her friend group, opting to spend her time in books.
"Everyone! It's time to play!" Wood screamed. Next to him, Percy Weasley was trying to escape from the second-hand embarrassment. Marcus Flint passed Harry, and motioned him to join them. Harry gave a slight nod. He then turned to his friends.
"Guys, I have to go to the restroom real quick."
"But Harry, the game is starting!" Blaise said.
"Don't worry, I'll be there before the game starts." Before they could say anymore, he disappeared, leaving them no choice but to head to the field.
"Anybody know what's going on with him?" Theo asked, but got shaking heads in return.
Harry, on the other hand, quickly ran to the locker room to change. He grabbed Nimbus 2000 and rushed over to the rest of the team.
"Alright team, the first match of the year. Our goal is to beat those loud lions, got it?" Everyone nodded their heads, some giggling.
"Remember, this year, for the sake of keeping Potter, we got to make sure we play a fair game. So no cheating." Harry blushed at the attention directed at him.
"Now then, time to play!" With that, Marcus mounted his broom and flew off, the rest of the team following.
"Where's Harry?" Blaise asked. He promised to be here before the game started, but no one could see him.
"I'll go check." But before Draco could get up, the Slytherin team shot out to the field. Everyone's jaw dropped when they saw Harry Potter flying around with the biggest smile. Everyone was too shocked to say anything. But suddenly, the crowd erupted in applause and cheers.
"This game is sure to be interesting!" Lee, who was the current Quidditch commentator.
And interesting it was.
The crowd went wild watching Harry fly around the pitch. Some other teams were grumbling how lucky they would have been if he had been in their house. And to most people's surprise, the Slytherins were actually playing fairly this time. But halfway through the match, something happened. Harry's broom started shaking and twisting, leaving Harry to hang on for dear life. Every time someone tried to get close so they could take him off the broom, the broom would jerk up, farther away from the ground. Instead, both teams opted to circle around the boy, catching him if he fell off.
"What's happening?" Hannah asked.
"It looks like someone jinxed his broom," Susan muttered. She knew all about jinxes from her aunt, Amelia Bones, who was an auror and the head of the DMLE.
Neville observed from his binoculars, trying to find the culprit.
"There!" He shouted. It attracted the attention of Hermione, who was sitting a few rows away. She glanced over to where her friend was looking at and disappeared. No one noticed her.
"But it seems like Snape and Quirrell are muttering. So who's the culprit?" The friends observed further, trying to find the one behind jinxing the broom. But before they could fully investigate, Quirrell was toppled over and smoke started to rise from Snape's robes.
"Snape's robes are on fire!" The trio zoomed closer sure enough, Snape was pointing his wand at his robes, putting out the blue flames.
"Wait-blue flames?" they glanced at Hermione, who was just sitting down and panting, clutching her robe close to her. But they were snapped out of their thoughts when something zoomed past them.
Harry had recovered and was chasing the snitch. Just a foot away, he got closer, and closer. He stood on his broom to lean even farther. But suddenly, he toppled over and landed on the ground, rolling a few times.
"He's going to throw up!' someone shouted. Which he did, but the snitch came out instead.
"HARRY POTTER HAS CAUGHT THE SNITCH! SLYTHERIN WINS!" Lee screamed. The crowd erupted in cheers, applauding the Slytherins win. Some of the team members carefully hoisted Harry on their shoulders and carried him around. All of Harry's friends ran up to him, and you couldn't wipe the smile off his face even if you tried.
