Chapter Two - Fear
Your eyes, by some miracle, were able to open again, fluttering open and blearily staring around at your unfamiliar surroundings. You felt a warm weight around you, curled around your body and keeping you securely to the object. It was the first time in a long time that you'd felt warmth, and not superficial warmth from the friction that built up from being slapped.
That kind of warmth always stung, this kind was much better, it was so soft. But, you shouldn't be warm. You should be dead. Maybe you were? But this didn't look like any afterlife you would've imagined, a few articles of clothes strewn out over the carpet and a computer that was showcasing a paused youtube video. The only question was, where were you? From the sound of breathing behind you, you gathered that there was another person with you, another person that was trapping you to them.
Your heart began pounding, thumping in your chest and you were certain that whoever was behind you could hear it too. You used your feet to feel for the footboard of the bed you were in, carefully pushing against it until your legs were straight and they were the only thing remaining in the strange man's hold.
You noticed the little cat ears on his head, noticed them flick gently when you pulled your legs out of his hold. You watched as he rolled over in the bed, holding your breath when he found your legs again, letting out a nearly inaudible whimper and nestling his head into your thighs. His head was now securely resting in your lap and you were trapped, you were stuck, you were cornered and there was nowhere to go. Your breathing quickened until it was unhealthily fast, your entire body tensed and a choked sob broke free from between your cracked, bleeding lips.
The noise made the cat hybrid stir in your lap, his ears swiveling to and fro as his eyes slowly opened. He blinked up at you for a moment, eyes scanning your terrified face before they blew open wide and he sat bolt upright in the bed. His fast movement made you jump, another sob escaping from your mouth. You cowered against the wall, weakly raising a clawed hand to stop him from coming closer.
"D-Don't come any closer! Where am I, why a-am I here, who are you?" Sobs broke through your words as you spoke them, punctuating your sentences and making Yoongi's heart sink.
"You're in Seokjin's Home For Lost And Found Hybrids. Seokjin, he's, well, not our owner, but he takes care of all of us. He's a sugar glider hybrid, he's really nice. He'll take good care of you. And I'm Yoongi, I'm a cat hybrid. Please don't cry, we won't hurt you. Taehyung might be overexcited when he finally gets to meet you, but he should know to be gentle with you. You don't have to meet anyone else if you don't want, not for right now. But we should probably feed you a little something, aren't you hungry?"
Your stomach actually felt like it was tearing itself apart, you were so hungry, but you didn't want to trust someone you'd just met, however endearing the physical contact and worry for you was.
"No. I'm fine." You spoke curtly, avoiding looking into his eyes. You were both predators and you didn't know if he was more dominant than submissive, direct eye contact might be taken as a threat. And the last thing you wanted was a fight. In fact, you just wanted to leave.
"When's the last time you ate?"
"I don't know. But I'm fine, please just let me go. I wanna get out, I don't want to be trapped here. Please."
Yoongi bit his lip, his own eyes searching frantically through yours to find some indication that you were lying. He saw only pain and distress, something that greatly unnerved him.
"If you meet everyone, and we feed you, and give you clothes, and you still want to leave, then I guess we can't stop you. But please at least accept a meal and warm clothes, I want to introduce you to Seokjin and Jimin for right now. They'll be the most calm, the most gentle, and probably make you feel the least worried. Jimin's probably been really worried about you actually, he almost cried when we brought you in. Jimin's a tiger hybrid," He rushed the last part of his sentence when the first part elicited another cry from you, "But he's really nice, he'd never hurt you!" Nothing seemed to work to soothe you so he texted Seokjin, asking him to please bring up a snack and to bring Jimin with him.
He got a response saying that he'd be a minute, and Yoongi took the time to get himself more acquainted with you.
"What's your name?"
"Y/N. You promise they won't hurt me?"
"Yes. I promise, Y/N."
The fear infinitesimally loosened in your chest and your breathing became more regular.
"Y/N, aren't you cold?"
You looked down, seeing only your dirty, tattered clothes on your body.
"... Yeah."
"Okay. I'm gonna get you some more clothes. Some of mine."
He stood, walking over to the open closet and rifling through it. Unfortunately, while he was stationed at the closet, a soft knock sounded on the door and a smiling, broad-shouldered man peeked his head around the door. He was met with your scared whimpers and pulled the door open all the way, stepping inside and moving to shut the door behind him. You barely saw the figure slip under his arm but it did, barreling towards you with an excited smile and tearing a scream from your throat.
Yoongi acted fast, lunging to grab the, dog hybrid, it was a dog hybrid that had ran at you, restraining the taller man within his arms before he could collide with you.
"Taehyung! She's not ready yet, you're too excited! She needs Jimin, she needs someone more laid back, look, you made her cry. Go get Jimin!"
A pathetic whine left Taehyung, his soulful puppy eyes staring into yours.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare you! Please don't cry!"
His words had no calming effect on you, instead making you cry harder and the other man, the one with the tray of food in his hands, set the snack on the bed, taking, Taehyung, his name was Taehyung, and leading him out the door. Yoongi slowly approached the bed, sitting on the edge and laying a cautious hand on your arm.
"Y/N, Y/N, Taehyung's gone, it's okay. He's just... He's a German Shepherd hybrid, he's really excited to meet you. Come here, it's okay."
He pulled you into his arms, running a gentle hand over your fox ears. They twitched under his hands, eliciting a small smile. You burrowed his face into his neck, taking in the scent that you'd smelled when you'd been sleeping in his warm embrace. It was soft and soothing, like honey and flowers with a hint of coffee. You let him rub your back, slowly calming down and letting him rock you back and forth in his arms.
