Chapter One - A Walk In The Park
Yoongi's hands were shoved deep in his pockets, keeping them warm in the frigid, chilly morning air. He walked a long path around the local park each day, it was his time to escape. Sometimes, the others would come along, Taehyung the German Shepherd hybrid, or Jimin, the tiger hybrid. Sometimes, because Seokjin's animal form was so small, the sugar glider hybrid would crawl into Yoongi's hood or hoodie pocket, keeping the cat hybrid warm.
Yoongi himself was a black cat hybrid. Many people had bypassed him in the shelter for this fact, not liking the 'bad omen' in the tiny little cage. He'd spent the majority of his life alone in his cages, only one person had ever taken him in. A eerily thin old man who's malicious spirit had broken Yoongi beyond belief. He'd been abused for almost three years until the man finally kicked him out, spitting in his broken, bloody face, and telling him to never show his face again.
Taehyung had been the one to find Yoongi, having smelled blood from the main sidewalk while Yoongi laid in the alleyway beside it. The worried dog hybrid was soon accompanied by a tall, broad shouldered man that scolded the puppy for running off.
"But look Jin! Look, he's hurt!"
Taehyung pointed with a shaking finger to the beat up, bloodied, and bruised body that was slumped against the alley wall. Jin rushed over, stopping and putting his hands up when a weak hiss came from the man sprawled out on the ground.
"Don't come any closer. You don't want any part of this, don't touch me."
"What's your name?"
"Get lost." Yoongi coughed shortly after his sassy remark, blood coming up and staining the sidewalk.
"Mister, please let us help you!"
Yoongi parted his lips once more to fire back at the two men but his chest was heaving with the effort of simply staying alive so he succumbed to the darkness that slowly took over, closing his eyes and exhaling.
Yoongi was ridiculously thankful for the two men's help, though he didn't think he was at the time. Seokjin's Home For Lost And Found Hybrids was the best place he'd ever been, no cages, no beatings, full meals every day.
Yoongi's headphones were securely placed in his ears, playing soft, emotional songs as he contemplated things. His morning walks were his time to think, because sometimes he couldn't hear himself think at home.
It was the smell that first made his stomach churn, although the sight that he came upon while tracking the smell nearly made him loose his breakfast. It appeared to be a fox hybrid, the bushy tail and orange ears giving it away, though they were stained red with fresh blood. The same red was pooling around the hybrid's abdomen, a nasty gash spreading across the entire stomach and part of the ribs.
He shakily reached into his pocket to grab his phone, dialing a 9 and a 1 before he backspaced them both and instead dialed Seokjin's number. Of course, it had to happen on a day that he didn't bring anyone with him.
"J-Jin. Come to the park, quick. I need you here now. Please run, I really need you here." He didn't let the sugar glider hybrid get a word in, clicking the end call button and dropping to his knees. He strained his fluffy cat ears and was able to pick up a faint heartbeat, though slow and unsteady.
The rushed footsteps thudding down the sidewalk in Yoongi's direction made his ears swivel back and he turned to stare into Seokjin's astonished eyes.
"I just found.... They're barely alive, please help me, we need to help them."
Yoongi stood, motioning for Jin to grab the fox hybrid's feet. He did so and Yoongi slid his arms under the fox's, hoisting them up. They rushed back to the house, bypassing Namjoon, the wolf hybrid, and Jungkook, the rabbit hybrid. Each one's eyes widened and they rushed after the two as they hauled the body upstairs and into the bathroom.
"We need to get them into some warm water, I don't know how long they've been laying there but it's freezing outside. Their fingers are turning blue." Jin muttered, gently laying the fox's feet in the bath. Yoongi crawled in himself, getting rid of the electronics in his pockets before telling Seokjin to turn the water on warm.
Yoongi was covered, absolutely covered in the fox hybrid's blood, but he didn't care, only putting two fingers up to the bruised neck of the hybrid to check that they still had a pulse. They did, but it was getting even weaker so he tried submerging them in the water as much as possible without drowning them.
"Jin, would you turn the water up all the way to hot? They're really not doing good."
Jin nodded, cranking the tap up to the far side of the bath. The entire family had assembled, Hoseok the deer hybrid peeking tentatively over Namjoon's shoulders while Namjoon held Jimin back from moving towards the bathtub. The tiger was especially sensitive around blood and often felt a strong desire to make sure that no one was hurt in any way. He'd often crawl into the other's beds at night and when asked for an explanation, would offer up that he just wanted to make sure they were okay. It must have been killing him to see the half-dead fox in the bathtub.
Yoongi felt the hybrid's skin slowly but surely warm in the hot water, his own skin in immense pain but he didn't care, taking a washcloth and peeling the tattered, dirty shirt from their abdomen. He asked all the others to leave the room, taking the shirt completely off and washing their body. He avoided the large gash, calling Seokjin back in to look at it.
"It won't stop bleeding, it's so huge. I don't know what to do."
Jin called in Namjoon, the both of them gently wrapping the poor fox hybrid's wounds in gauze. Jimin brought in a pair of his own clothes, a large shirt and some sweatpants, knowing that the fox's malnourished form would fit most comfortably in his clothes. They slid the hybrid inside the clothes, moving to put them in one of the spare beds in their house.
"Wait! Can.. Um, can I keep them in my room? I want to be sure they're okay and I want to be there when they wake up." Yoongi's eyes were round and scared, fingers curling gently around the hybrid's tummy as he held them upright.
"Yeah sure, just be gentle with them, they've clearly been through a lot." Jin gave his seal of approval and that was all Yoongi needed to lift the hybrid off of their feet, holding them bridal style in his arms. He closed the door to his room as soon as he was inside, tucking the fox into his bed. He thought for a moment and finally decided on getting in the bed as well, to keep the little fox warm. He wasn't sure what the fox hybrid had been through, or what they'd do when they woke up, but he felt strongly for the malnourished fox and pulled them tighter towards them as his eyes closed for a mid-morning cat nap.
(A/N, if it wasn't clear, you're the fox hybrid. :) )
