Chapter 27
Alyssa's PoV
That had been absolutely terrifying. I don't even know or remember how I reacted so quickly but I was glad that I did. The two kids had been playing on the bed with some toys when I'd looked out of the window and saw someone looking suspicious. Before I knew it, something large was flying towards the window. I grabbed the two kids and practically threw them off the bed, my body shielding them both as the large object annihilated the window, shattering it into millions of pieces that flew everywhere. I knew some had hit me, that wasn't a problem, but I desperately searched the kids who luckily seemed unharmed. Seconds later, the two guys had run in, panicking at the sight. Poor Kira was terrified. She'd let out such a blood-curdling scream as I'd pulled her away from the bed but I think she knew I'd done it to protect her. I hope she did. She'd run to Luke so quickly, her voice wobbly from fear as Calum had bent down beside me to see that we were okay. He helpfully carried Cody to safety whilst I awaited their return to discuss what the hell had just happened. My eyes were on the large stone, one with a note wrapped around it and held on with elastic bands. This had to be Ivy's work. I'd had no issues before this and as soon as that lying woman had appeared at my door, we're suddenly in danger? Coincidence or not?
The two men reentered the room quickly, once again taking in the mess that had been made.
"What the hell happened?" Luke asked, his scared eyes on me to try to explain it all.
"They were playing on the bed while I packed. I went to grab a couple of Cody's toys from the windowsill and saw someone suspicious. They threw something at the window so I grabbed the kids and moved them away. I'm so glad I did." I looked back over Cody's bedding, now shiny with the amount of glass on it. Luke's hand came to his mouth as he let out a shaky sigh.
"Do you want me to check the note?" Calum offered and Luke nodded.
"I'll get it." I held my hand up and stopped him where he stood. I was already in the room, closest to the stone. As I reached down and began unreeling the bands, Luke let out a horrified gasp.
"Lys! You're bleeding!" I continued to open the note, not really paying attention to the comment as I finally freed the paper and opened it up. I read the scrawled writing with horror etched on my face, the colour seeming to drain from it as I reread the threat.
Stay away! He's mine. You'll regret it.
I shakily handed it to Calum, whose reaction mirrored mine. He finally showed it to Luke too, whose legs seemed to turn to jelly as he practically fell into Calum, the shock on his face obvious.
"Jesus." Luke muttered, his shaky hand coming to his mouth. My stomach dropped. Ivy could have seriously injured Cody and Kira and all of that was just to warn me that Luke was hers?
"Mikey! Call them!" Calum shouted cryptically, turning to whisper the end of the message to us. "As I bought the kids in, I told him to be on standby to call the police." I nodded at him, the pure fear and worry making me speechless.
"Lys, please let me check your arm." Luke pulled away from Calum, Calum's eyes quickly searching my arms for what Luke was talking about. Even I had no clue, though at that exact moment I could feel a tickling moving down my left arm. I lifted it up, just in time to see some blood drip down and onto the floor. I manipulated my arm to look at the back of it, noticing a piece of glass sticking out from it. The adrenaline must have masked the pain completely. Shocked, I quickly turned my arm so both of them could see it. Their faces twisted in horror.
"It's fine. It doesn't even hurt." I said, trying to offer some sort of comfort to them. They both moved closer, getting a good look at it. Calum rushed out of the room quickly.
"God, Lys I'm so sorry. I didn't mean you get you involved with Ivy, she's a nasty piece of work." He put his hand on my bicep, his eyes looking sorrowful at me.
"It's not your fault. It's none of your faults. She is, well, unstable. She needs help."
"But look at your arm. You got hurt because of me. She sent that as a warning because she could see we're close. That stone, or shard of glass, or any of it, could have hit our kids." He ran his hands down his face as he breathed out. "I think you have to stay with us until Ivy is locked away. That's the only way you're going to be safe now. I'll sort everything out about the bodyguards, the security, how you get to school and work. Please, just go along with it for now. I don't know what I'd do if you or Cody got hurt. I wouldn't be able to handle it." Without thinking, I pulled him into a hug. A tight, comforting one that seemed to calm both of us for a second. I turned my head to speak quietly into his ear as we remained close.
"I think the more heads the better. We need to protect everyone; us, our kids and your friends. I'll go along with anything you suggest for now. I trust you." I smiled into his embrace.
"Ha. I don't know if you should." Luke seemed to say, a depressed tone lacing his short sentence. I pulled away from him for a second, my eyebrows furrowed as I waited for him to continue. "There's a lot I've not told you, and when you do know I think it's going to change everything you think and feel about me."
